WELCOME WEEK 2019 Wednesday, August 14 Premium Plan (Only) Move-In Day Students with Premium Plan contracts move in today 7:30 p.m. Rock the Halls Location: Noyer Lawn Join the Residence Hall Association (RHA) on the lawn between the Noyer and Studebaker West Complexes for games, inflatables, music, give a ways, and free food! Stick around until dusk and enjoy an outdoor movie with s’mores and popcorn. Thursday, August 15 All Day University Libraries Information Table Location: Bracken Library, Main Lobby Stop by to get news about the University Libraries’ services as well as print and online resources that can help make your college career a success. Library personnel will be on hand to answer questions about resources, services, and employment opportunities. In addition, from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. an outdoor table (on the north side of the library), weather permitting, will include additional information and free swag while supplies last. These events are open to all incoming students. 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Move-In Day All students may move in today 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Student Center Poster Sale Location: L.A. Pittenger Student Center, Front Lawn Do the walls in your room or apartment look bare? Starting today, there will be fine art prints and posters for sale all week. Thursday, August 15 (continued) 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Criminal Justice and Criminology Open House for New Majors Location: North Quad Building, Room 279 Freshmen and Transfer students who are majoring in CJC are invited to meet Ms. Marsha McCall, CJC Major Advisor, to learn about the major, tour the department, and learn about extracurricular activities. Mr. Brandon Murphy and Dr. Benjamin Gibbs will be available to discuss internships. The convocation then moves next door to the Ball Honors House backyard for a social mixer, where freshmen will meet their peer mentors, leaders of honors College student organizations, and Honors College faculty and staff. We’ll take our annual class photo at the convocation, and each new honors freshman will receive a welcome gift from the Honors College. 5:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m. Where do I find Course Material/Information? Canvas Learning Session Location: Burkhart Building 109 Canvas is a web-based course-management systems by which faculty deliver course content to students. Your instructors may use Canvas to post syllabi, create exams, host online class discussions, and make important files available to you. Stop by BB109 to learn how to navigate Canvas so you can find course materials and information to maximize your academic success for all incoming students. 6:00 p.m.-7:15 p.m. 21st Century Scholars Symposium (Mandatory for 21st Century Scholars) Location: Pruis Hall The 21st Century Scholars Symposium is a mandatory event for all incoming freshmen with a 21st Century Scholar award. During this event we will review scholar requirements, program expectations, and introduce you to campus staff and resources dedicated to your success. 7:45 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Residence Hall Floor Meetings Hosted by your friendly resident assistant (RA), this is a great time to learn important information about your new home, meet your neighbors, and begin your year in the residence halls. You will also meet your Welcome Week leader. Thursday, August 15 (continued) 9 p.m. Ball State Athletics: Chirp! Chirp! (MANDATORY) Location: Worthen Arena Join President Geoffrey Mearns and Athletic Director Beth Goetz for an introduction to your Cardinal athletics programs. The Ball State cheerleaders, Code Red Dance Team, Pride of Mid-America Marching Band, and Charlie Cardinal will lead the cheers and teach you the fight song. Get your 2019–20 spirit shirt, among other prizes, and one lucky freshman will earn the opportunity to shoot a half-court shot to win free tuition for the 2020 spring semester. Ball State coaches will be on hand to get you fired up about Ball State Athletics. Chirp! Chirp! 10:00 p.m.–1:00 a.m. Ball State Back to College Event Location: Meijer. Free shuttle services to and from the store at Worthen Arena Exclusively for Ball State Students!! Meijer Mania features free food, samples, prizes and much more! Special deals to deck out your room! Bring your class schedule with you. 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Tech Pursuit Location: Unified Technology Support, Bracken Library, Room 101 Students will be challenged to search and locate Tech Center resources that are fun and beneficial to their academic and general technology needs. Prizes and information to be claimed! 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Spiritual Life Fair Location: Art and Journalism Building, The Atrium This fair will feature a variety of Ball State student organizations that focus on spiritual and religious life on campus. You will be able to meet leaders of these groups and collect information on their activities and events. 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Mock Class Lecture Location: Arts and Communications Building, Room 114 Hosted by professors across campus, this interactive lecture will show you what to expect on your first day of classes. You will have the opportunity to learn about the classroom setting, expectations, and receive a few tips about how to be successful in the classroom. Another session is offered on Saturday, August 17, 1-2 p.m. 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Residence Hall Activities All residence halls will be sponsoring opening social activities.
