International Journal of Research ISSN NO:2236-6124 An Empirical Study on Tourists interest towards Archaeological Heritage Sites in West Bengal Dr. Santinath Sarkar Assistant Professor, Dept. Of Education, University of Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal. Pincode: 741235 ABSTRACT: Tourism as a modern term is applicable to both international and domestic tourists. Tourism aims to recognize importance of it in generating local employment both directly in the tourism sector and in various support and resource management sectors. West Bengal has improved its share in international tourism receipts during the course of past decade i.e. from about 3.36% in 2005 to about 5.88% in 2016 of foreign tourists visiting India. Archaeological heritage is a vital part of the tourism product and is one of the energetic factors that can develop the competitiveness of a tourism destination. Archaeological heritage tourism is one of the largest and fastest growing global tourism markets and it covers all aspects of travel that provide an opportunity for visitors to learn about other areas’ history, culture and life style. The present investigated the relationship between tourists’ satisfaction and the attributes of archaeological heritage destinations in West Bengal (WB). The area of the study at selected archaeological heritage destinations of West Bengal, which is located in eastern India and the data of this study have been collected from the on-site survey method at Victoria Memorial Hall, Belur Math, Chandannagar, Hazarduari, Shantiniketan, Bishnupur. These destinations are highly of the rich archaeological heritage of the State of West Bengal. The sample population for this study was composed of tourists who visited in these places in between December 2016 to January 2017. -

Arts Section Minutes of the Meeting of the Expert Committee held on 14th, 15th,17th and 18th October, 2013 under the Performing Arts Grants Scheme (PAGS). The Expert Committee for the Performing Arts Grants Scheme (PAGS) met on 14th, 15th ,17thand 18th October, 2013 to consider renewal of salary grants to existing grantees and decide on the fresh applications received for salary and production grants under the Scheme, including review of certain past cases, as recommended in the earlier meeting. The meeting was chaired by Smt. Arvind Manjit Singh, Joint Secretary (Culture). A list of Expert members present in the meeting is annexed. 2. On the opening day of the meeting ie. 14th October, inaugurating the meeting, Sh. Sanjeev Mittal, Joint Secretary, introduced himself to the members of Expert Committee and while welcoming the members of the committee informed that the Ministry was putting its best efforts to promote, develop and protect culture of the country. As regards the Performing Arts Grants Scheme(earlier known as the Scheme of Financial Assistance to Professional Groups and Individuals Engaged for Specified Performing Arts Projects; Salary & Production Grants), it was apprised that despite severe financial constraints invoked by the Deptt. Of Expenditure the Ministry had ensured a provision of Rs.48 crores for the Repertory/Production Grants during the current financial year which was in fact higher than the last year’s budgetary provision. 3. Smt. Meena Balimane Sharma, Director, in her capacity as the Member-Secretary of the Expert Committee, thereafter, briefed the members about the salient features of various provisions of the relevant Scheme under which the proposals in question were required to be examined by them before giving their recommendations. -

Echoing Tagore's Love for the Monsoons
ECHOING TAGORE’S LOVE FOR THE MONSOONS Sukanya Guha Alumni of Banaras Hindu University, India Contact: [email protected] Abstract In India, Bengal’s most celebrated literary figure, Rabindranath Tagore, was specifically sensitive regarding the various seasons occurring in India. The monsoon and its relation with Tagore’s songs is the main focus of this paper. The monsoon, when Mother Nature spreads her beauty by unravelling her bounty treasures, is richly expressed by Tagore. In the composition for the khanika (poem) ‘Asho nai tumi phalgune’ [you did not come in the spring season] Tagore says: “when I awaited eagerly for your visit in the spring, you didn’t come. Please, don’t make me wait any longer and do come during the full monsoon”. In another of his songs he visualises on a cloudy sunless day, a person’s longing to share his or her deepest treasure of feeling for that particular important person ‘Emon ghonoghor boroshaye’ [in this heavy downpour] (Tagore 2002: 333, song 248). Through these poetic compositions and many more, one may understand the depth in Tagore’s understanding of the human’s emotional details regarding this specific season. The monsoon may also be disastrous. According to Tagore’s a composition ‘Bame rakho bhoyonkori’ [keep aside the destructions] (Tagore 2002: 394, song 58) he describes as well as wishes that the monsoon keeps away the damage or distress from people’s lives. His tunes blend with his words and emotions, not to mention the ragas that are believed to be related with rain that is popular to the Indian subcontinent such as Rag Megh or Rag Mian ki Malhar. -

Raman Centre for Physics and Music, 2Department of Physics Jadavpur University, Kolkata: 700032 *[email protected] ABSTRACT: The works of Rabindranath Tagore have been sung by various artistes over generations spanning over almost 100 years. there are few songs which were popular in the early years and have been able to retain their popularity over the years while some others have faded away. In this study we look to find cues for the singing style of these songs which have kept them alive for all these years. For this we took 3 min clip of four Tagore songs which have been sung by five generation of artistes over 100 years and analyze them with the help of latest nonlinear techniques Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (MFDFA). The multifractal spectral width is a manifestation of the inherent complexity of the signal and may prove to be an important parameter to identify the singing style of particular generation of singers and how this style varies over different generations. The results are discussed in detail. SOCIAL TRENDS1 Journal of the Department of Sociology of North Bengal University Vol. 5, 31 March 2018; ISSN: 2348-6538 UGC Approved Social Relationships Through Feminist Lens Jhuma Chakraborty Abstract: This paper endeavours to discuss two real life relationships from the perspective of two philosophers- Carol Gilligan, a renowned psychologist and philosopher and Simone de Beauvoir an existentialist philosopher. I will show how the readings of these relations become difficult from the perspectives of two philosophies. Both of them have critiqued the patriarchal top down structure like any other feminist and have explored and interpreted human relations from novel perspectives. Gilligan maintains that human beings are essentially related. Gilligan suggests that the entire relational network of a society can be sustained through care and empathetic listening of the voices of the ‘Other’. Beauvoir is an existentialist philosopher who maintains that human existence creates his/her being through freedom. One should go beyond the constraints of our contingent existence and give meaning to everyday relations through a never-ending venture of taking new projects. Keywords: Relational self, voice, empathetic listening, freedom, facticity. Introduction My paper focuses on two stories and their interpretation from feminist perspective. I am concerned with the ethical aspect of the two happenings. I want to discuss them from feminist perspective simply because patriarchal values will not appreciate the moral dilemma involved in these two stories. These are real life stories and are not a product of my imagination. The names of the characters are the only changes that I have made and the rest has been a description of what actually occurred.
