Kate Anticoli ‘17

Kate is a junior Communication Studies major with a minor in Business Management. She expects to graduate in May 2017.

Originally from Abington, Pennsylvania, she decided that Buffalo was the city she wanted to call home after visiting Canisius. Kate has grown to love Buffalo even more through her experiences over the past few years. On campus, she is a Resident Assistant, the chair of the Student Programming Board, VP of Programming of the Undergraduate Student Association, Vice Archon of her sorority Phi Sigma Sigma, and a tour guide in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Kate has developed a passion for event planning through her campus involvement and her future plans are to pursue corporate event planning as a career after graduation.

Latrel Citizen, MS ‘16, MBA ‘17

Latrel is a City native who completed a Master's Degree in Sport Administration in 2016 and is enrolled in the One Year MBA program at for the 2016-2017 academic year.

Latrel is active on campus as a volunteer with the Women's team and a volunteer assistant with the Women's Softball team. Her high academic achievement was recognized when she was recently inducted into the Honor Society. Seeking to enhance her leadership abilities, Latrel intends to serve as a Resident Assistant in the upcoming academic year.

Following graduate school, Latrel plans to become an athletic director at the collegiate level where she will develop a sports program to provide children with the opportunity to engage in travel sports and remain active. Latrel previously attended the where she earned a B.A. in History with a Peace and Justice Studies concentration and a minor in Coaching.

Lauren Courtade ‘17

Lauren is a proud Buffalo native with a passion for children, education and her community. Lauren will graduate in the spring of 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood/ Special Education with a concentration in math, and extensions in both early childhood and middle school.

Lauren is an active member of the Canisius community where she provides tutoring for students in Buffalo schools, serves as an undergraduate research assistant for the JUSTICE Project, and volunteers at community organizations via the Teacher Education Club. Lauren was recently nominated as co-president of Canisius’s chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the international education honor society. Off campus Lauren works as a teacher’s aide at EduKids, where she completed her fellowship internship last summer. Additionally, Lauren is the proud owner and designer of a custom dessert business, My Grandpa’s Sweet Tooth, which she created over three years ago.

Following graduation, Lauren plans on enrolling in a Master’s program and teaching in a Buffalo school. She hopes to use her education in order to help all students overcome adversity and achieve success both in and out of the classroom.

Haley Edwards ‘17

Raised in a military family, Haley was born in England, maintains residency in Maryland and has been a citizen of the world. She is a Chemistry Health Professions track major in the Pre-Medical Studies program and expects to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in May 2017.

Throughout her time at Canisius College, Haley has been an active participant in campus clubs, internships and community volunteer activities dedicated to creating positive change. She serves as Vice President of the Canisius College Afro American Society, is on the Canisius College cheerleading squad, is an active participant of the Society of Pre-Health Professionals and the American Chemical Society, and volunteers at the Somali Bantu after-school program helping young refugees learn English.

Haley also completed an internship the Greater Buffalo United Accountable Healthcare Network where she was able to learn about the healthcare problems in Buffalo and served as a teaching assistant in the Chemistry Department. Haley applies her academic, internship and volunteer experiences to build the skills she needs for her aspiring medical career.

After graduation, Haley plans on attending a well-ranked medical school to become a doctor. Once established in her career, Haley plans to establish her own medical practice to benefit the communities that impacted her life; Maryland and Buffalo.

Erik Ferguson, MBA ‘17

After four years of musical education in Central Florida, award- winning composer Erik Ferguson returned to study in . As an accelerated MBA candidate, with a concentration in Finance, Erik intends to graduate in the summer of 2017.

A Duckwitz scholar at Stetson University, Erik regularly collaborated with over a dozen music ensembles ranging in size from two to over one hundred performers. Erik founded and served as president of the Student Composers Society at Stetson, all while arranging concerts for a separate co-founded project – the popular “A Night at the Console” concert series. Erik is currently collaborating with other composers in Central Florida to form a student composers network.

Beyond his Florida music experiences, Erik won Stetson University’s Social Entrepreneurship Pitch Competition in the fall of 2015. He also enjoys teaching and has taken both paid and volunteer positions instructing classes and individuals in music, tennis, and investment strategies in East Amherst and Inlet, NY. Although his degree in music composition and an MBA may seem disparate, Erik intends to use his experience in creating and organization from music and the knowledge from an MBA to found organizations that will build upon Buffalo’s substantial natural and university-based resources. These organizations would, ideally, boost Buffalo’s economy and provide opportunities for those challenged by their individual circumstances, such as the mentally ill, a topic of special concern for Erik.

Brannon Jones ‘17

Brannon is a Buffalo native on track to graduate in 2017 with a double major in Psychology and Human Services and a minor in Communication Studies.

Brannon is passionate about education and service to humankind, which he demonstrates as a dedicated volunteer at Canisius and in his community. He is active in the Teacher Education Club, serving as a past president, works at a local after-school program assisting K-8th grade students, and regularly participates in service activities with Campus Ministry. Through Campus Ministry, Brannon participated in Canisius service trips to New Orleans and to aid in hurricane disaster relief efforts, initiated a local partnership to connect Canisius students with refugee children, organized the campus-wide day of service Community Day, and led a team of students to Chennai, India to learn about the caste system and related social injustices.

Brannon’s future plans are to enroll in the Canisius College Communication and Leadership graduate program. Following his graduates studies, Brannon hopes to use his skills to work at Roswell Park Cancer Institute to create greater outreach, awareness and to further build their development opportunities for the benefit of Buffalo and its citizens.

Greg Kopra ‘17

A lifelong Buffalonian, Greg Kopra is a junior majoring in Management with a minor in Human Resource Management. Greg plans to graduate in May 2017.

Greg has made the most of his work and volunteer experiences throughout his time at Canisius. He served as a Data Entry Specialist at Corporation, was a summer intern in the Aircraft Department at Moog Inc., and was a Camp Counselor at Pioneer Camp and Retreat Center. On campus, Greg served as Monthly Programmer for the Student Programming Board, Special Events Programmer for Project Conservation, HR Management for MyLinkFace, a Language Mentoring Organization, and a Junior Senator for the Undergraduate Student Association. He worked as a Resident Assistant for the Office of Student Life and a Tour Guide for the Office of Admissions. Greg also volunteered his time at the Somali-Bantu Association, Burgard High School, Vive la Casa and recently participated in a Campus Ministry service trip to an orphanage in Poland. Greg is also an active member in his local church’s ministries.

Greg plans to continue his life of service and hopes to connect his passion for conservation of the environment to his life’s work by working for a non-profit organization.

Juston Lee Locklear ’17

(Juston) Lee Locklear is a North Carolina native, but considers himself an adopted Buffalonian. He has a double major in Marketing and Psychology with a minor in International Management and plans to graduate May 2017.

Throughout his time at Canisius, Lee has been extremely involved on campus. He was recently elected President of the American Marketing Association Chapter at Canisius for the 2016-2017 academic year, currently serving as the Vice President of Professional Development in the Chapter. Lee is also a Weekend Programmer on the Student Programming Board and a Resident Assistant for Canisius. Through his first year as a Western New York Prosperity Scholar, Lee was able to secure an internship in the Public Relations Departments of the and the .

Upon graduation, Lee plans to work in the area of public relations and aspires to obtain a position with the . Lee also plans to open his own Public Relations Consulting agency, where he would like to help small and under recognized companies in the area reach their full potential.

Marc Mallare ’16, MBAA ‘17

Marc is an Amherst native who recently graduated from Canisius with an Accounting and Accounting Information Systems double major. Marc is currently enrolled in the College’s MBAA program and studying for his CPA examination. He is on the Dean’s List Accounting Honor Roll.

While studying at Canisius, Marc has been very active both on and off campus. Marc has been a member of the Accounting Society since 2012, participated as a junior mentor for the freshmen mentoring program, served as an advisor and aid for Managerial and Cost Accounting classes and volunteered for leadership building retreats for class members. Marc is a 2012 graduate of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and has become an ambassador for the accounting department in recruiting students for the program at St. Joe’s.

Marc is a three time New York State , a two time USA Hockey Nationals Bronze Medalist, played two seasons for Canisius’ club hockey team, and one on the College’s Division 1 Men’s Ice Hockey team. In 2016 Marc accepted a Goaltending Coach position at St. Joe’s where he and the team won the 2016 New York State Catholic State Championship.

Marc’s internships include M&T Bank, the Buffalo Sabres, and he is currently interning in the audit department at Tronconi Segarra where he conducts training for new interns and works in bankruptcy audits, chapter 7 audit planning, onsite audits, and revenue certifications for a major corporation. While a part of the Sabres’ social media team, he helped the team win the 2015 InfoTech Niagara “Best Use of Social Media” award.

After his graduate studies, Marc plans to work for a public accounting firm.

Katherine McCarley ’17

Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, Katherine McCarley is the third of five children. Katherine is pursuing dual majors in English and Psychology and plans to graduate in 2017.

Katherine is a dedicated student and an active campus member participating in diversity clubs such as UNITY, ALANA, and the Afro- American Society. She is excelling in her classes, maintaining a 3.61 GPA and cultivating the professional skills honed through the WNY Prosperity Fellowship.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Katherine works two part-time jobs, assists her family and volunteers at the Buffalo Prep program helping economically disadvantaged high school students gain the skills and confidence they need to enter and succeed in college. Katherine has been educating and mentoring students through the Buffalo Prep program for the past eight years and is grateful to be able to have a positive impact on disadvantaged children while giving back to the same organization that helped her as a youth.

Following graduation, Katherine plans to attend law school and become an attorney. Katherine hopes to inspire other young women from minority backgrounds to pursue careers in the legal field.

John “Jack” McGuire ’17

A native of Buffalo, Jack is a senior All-College Honors student majoring in economics & finance in the Wehle School of Business. He is currently a student fund manager in the Golden Griffin Fund.

During his freshman and sophomore years at Canisius, Jack served as a senator in the Undergraduate Student Association as well as a member of the Finance Committee. As a junior he served as the president of the Economics & Finance Club. He has also served as an orientation leader for the honors program for incoming freshmen. Outside of school, Jack had internships with NYS Assemblyman Robin Schimminger and U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer. He also serves as board member for HOSIKIDS, a non-for-profit based in Buffalo, which helps to provide school supplies to an underprivileged grade school in Ghana, Africa.

After graduation, Jack hopes to attend graduate school and to pursue a career in finance. He plans to one day create an organization in Buffalo that is dedicated to addressing the deep-rooted inequalities found in the Buffalo public school system, hoping to provide the resources so that all students will have equal opportunity to pursue a college degree.

James Moscato ’16, MBA ‘17

Buffalo native James is an MBA student working towards his CPA license. James graduated from Canisius College in May 2016 with an Accounting and Accounting Information Systems dual-major.

James actively participates in accounting society events and has provided volunteer service at Viva La Casa refugee resettlement agency and through the NYSSCPA, where he reconciled cash and ticket drawers for the city’s largest food event, The .

James is active in the sports field and has been able to combine his accounting studies with his love of sports through his internship opportunities. James has had internship placements with the Buffalo Bills accounting department, the Athletics Department under the athletic budget director, and the Buffalo Niagara Sports Commission (BNSC). While working for BNSC, James was able to participate in USA Hockey Tournaments, NCAA March Madness and the local “50 Yard Finish” event. During the 2015 tax season, James interned at The Bonadio Group in the tax department. James assisted with individual, foreign, corporate and trust tax returns. Currently, James is a Department of Justice audit intern with Tronconi, Segarra and Associates. He will be interning with them throughout the summer.

James plans to pursue full-time employment in mid-2017. His future is to work as a NFL front office executive using his accounting technical knowledge while pursuing his passion for football.

Caitlin Orgek ‘18

Canisius College student Caitlin Orgek is a lifelong Western New Yorker with a double major in International Relations and German Language and Culture with minors in Religions of the World and History.

Throughout her time at Canisius, Caitlin has been involved on and off campus. She is the secretary and one of the founders of the newly established Model United Nations Club, helping to recruit volunteers for the annual High School Model UN Conference and organizing the first trip in many years to a college-level Model UN conference for Canisius. Caitlin is a 2015-16 Canisius Earning Excellence Program (CEEP) award recipient and through this program has researched and created multiple topic guides for the annual High School Model UN Conference held at Canisius every fall.

Caitlin currently interns at the International Institute of Buffalo in the Language Services Department, working with interpreters and preparing reports on the most requested languages for our area. She also volunteers at the WEDI after-school program ENERGY which helps refugee children learn to read and communicate in English.

Caitlin aspires to create her own non-profit organization dedicated to promoting cultural understanding within the Western New York community between the incoming refugee populations and the settled populations in the WNY area.

After completing her undergraduate studies in 2018, Caitlin plans to pursue a Fulbright scholarship to Germany to teach migrants and refugees English and to help their transition into the community.

Sarah Owen ‘17

Sarah, a member of the Class of 2017, is a double major in international business and political science with minors in economics and German. She is a member of the Honors College and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor society.

Throughout her time at Canisius, Sarah has been actively involved both on and off campus. Sarah has served as Vice President of both Women in Business and InterVarsity Christian Fellowship clubs, in addition to being an active member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and Canisius International Business Association, where she competes on the case competition team. Sarah spent the spring 2016 semester studying abroad at the Berlin School of Economics and Law. In her hometown of Springville, New York, she works as a substitute teacher. Sarah has also served as a deacon at her local church and is an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. As a returning fellow, Sarah has previous work experience as an intern in the Business Development office at Excelsior Orthopaedics.

After completing her undergraduate studies, Sarah plans to earn a juris doctor degree and work with local government to create policy for better educational and entrepreneurial opportunities in the Greater Buffalo Area.

Amber Quinney ’17

Amber is a Buffalo native pursuing a marketing degree. She expects to graduate with her baccalaureate degree in 2017.

Amber is an ambitious Canisius student who started her first business at 18 years old. Since then, she has positioned herself to grow as an entrepreneur on and off campus. She is a brother of business fraternity and is a freelance marketing consultant to small business owners where she applies in-class instruction to real-world business challenges. Amber is an aspiring attorney whose professional experience includes work in law offices, federal court, and currently at an IT consulting firm. Recent milestones include representing Canisius College at the National CEO Elevator Pitch Competition and being selected as the inaugural scholar for the S&J Foundation.

Amber expects to graduate in May 2017 (B.S.), May 2018 (MBA). Following graduation, she plans to attend law school. Through lifelong learning, team work, and philanthropy, Amber hopes to use her gifts to inspire, motivate, and elevate the lives of others.

Connor Rosenecker ‘18

Connor is a Western New York native who is pursuing a quadruple major in Economics, Finance, Business Management, and Psychology. He expects to graduate in 2018.

Throughout his time at Canisius, Connor has been fervently involved both on and off campus. He is currently the President of the Canisius College Chorale; Vice-President, Team Development Chair, and former Treasurer of Colleges Against Cancer; recently elected Vice-President and Treasurer of the Commuter Student Association; and a member of the All-College Honors Program. Further, Connor is a member of the Contemporary Music Ensemble and the Canisius Music Scholars Program and is a former Research and Clinical Assistant at the Institute for Autism Research. Connor was awarded the Trustee’s Academic Scholarship, the Canisius College Music Scholarship, and the Alumni Grant to attend Canisius. Off campus, Connor is the Co-Founder of International Microloans of Buffalo, a not-for-profit corporation which funds subsistence business initiatives in third-world countries. Recently Connor was appointed as Producer of the Global Leadership Summit in Rochester, New York. In addition, he is a Volunteer Coordinator for the annual Summit Walk for Autism Awareness. Connor is presently employed as a cantor at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Bowmansville.

After graduation, Connor intends to pursue an MBA in Finance and hopes to find employment in the Buffalo area as an investment consultant, business advisor, and/or enterprise analyst. He would eventually like to earn a J.D. or a Ph.D.

Daphne Sietz ‘18

Daphne is originally from Phoenix, Arizona and is pursuing a double major in Religious Studies and Human Services with a minor in Women and Gender Studies. Daphne plans to graduate in May of 2018.

Throughout her time at Canisius, Daphne has been very involved both on and off campus. She works as a Resident Assistant for the Office of Student life in one of the freshman dormitories on campus and serves as an intern for the Campus Ministry Department helping direct retreats for the Canisius community. She also is a Student Ambassador for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, an active member of the acapella group CrescenDON’Ts, and participates with the Little Theatre on campus. This summer Daphne is leading a student trip to Poland with Campus Ministry for World Youth Day. Recently Daphne was an intern for the National Jesuit Student Leader Conference and participated in a service trip to El Salvador. Off campus, Daphne is engaged in volunteer work in the Buffalo community providing service to the WEDI ENERGY program, which is an afterschool program for refugee children.

After graduation, Daphne plans to perform a year of service before enrolling in a graduate program to pursue a master’s degree in social work. Daphne aspires to one day open her own non-profit organization that helps serve the refugee population.

Jeffrey Spencer ’17

A member of the Class of 2017, Jeffrey M. Spencer is an All-College Honors, Pre-Law student studying Economics and Finance in the Richard J Wehle School of Business. Jeffrey is a life-long Buffalonian who grew up in the Town of Tonawanda.

Jeffrey will serve as the Vice President of Business and Finance for the Canisius College Undergraduate Student Association for the 2016- 2017 academic year. Jeffrey was the Finance and Sponsorship Chair for the National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference in 2015 at Canisius and worked as an Orientation Leader for New Student Orientation in 2014 and 2015. He is a proud recipient of the Frank G. Raichle, Charles S. Desmond and Michael F. Dillon Pre-Law Scholarship Awards and is a second-year Western New York Prosperity Fellow. In the summer of 2015, he traveled to Tanzania through the Institute for the Global Study of Religion at Canisius where he studied faith, culture and education in the Mt. Kilimanjaro region. Jeffrey also studied abroad as a Principia Consortium Honors student at the University of Glasgow, Scotland for the spring semester of his junior year.

In service to his country, Jeffrey is enlisted in the Air Force Reserve, where he is a Staff Sergeant Command Post Controller for the 914th Airlift Wing at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. Jeffrey plans to pursue a juris doctor degree upon graduation.

Chen Zhang ‘17

Chen is from China and immigrated to Buffalo in 2004. He is pursuing a dual major in accounting and accounting information systems. Chen has been on the Dean’s List for seven consecutive semesters. Recently, he was awarded John T. Kennedy Memorial Award for attaining the highest GPA in his junior class.

Throughout his time at Canisius College, Chen has been involved on and off campus. He was recently inducted as a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, a premier honor society for business students. He is a Junior Mentor for the Freshmen Mentoring Program at Canisius, where he helps freshman accounting students develop time management and study skills for academic success. Lastly, he has been a member of the Accounting Society since 2012. Off campus, Chen has been actively involved in the community. Chen has been volunteering at Catholic Charities of Buffalo since 2012, where he developed leadership and teamwork experience through volunteering at the site. Chen’s internship experience includes assignments at Rich Products in the international finance department where he conducted training sessions for building financial reports for effective decision-making.

Chen will be interning at Ernst & Young, Assurance Practice in summer of 2016. After his undergraduate studies, he plans to earn his MBA in accounting at Canisius College, as well as pass the CPA exam prior to beginning a career in public accounting.
