Kate Anticoli ‘17 Kate is a junior Communication Studies major with a minor in Business Management. She expects to graduate in May 2017. Originally from Abington, Pennsylvania, she decided that Buffalo was the city she wanted to call home after visiting Canisius. Kate has grown to love Buffalo even more through her experiences over the past few years. On campus, she is a Resident Assistant, the chair of the Student Programming Board, VP of Programming of the Undergraduate Student Association, Vice Archon of her sorority Phi Sigma Sigma, and a tour guide in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Kate has developed a passion for event planning through her campus involvement and her future plans are to pursue corporate event planning as a career after graduation. Canisius College Prosperity Fellows 2016 - 2017 | 1 Latrel Citizen, MS ‘16, MBA ‘17 Latrel is a New York City native who completed a Master's Degree in Sport Administration in 2016 and is enrolled in the One Year MBA program at Canisius College for the 2016-2017 academic year. Latrel is active on campus as a volunteer with the Women's Basketball team and a volunteer assistant with the Women's Softball team. Her high academic achievement was recognized when she was recently inducted into the Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society. Seeking to enhance her leadership abilities, Latrel intends to serve as a Resident Assistant in the upcoming academic year. Following graduate school, Latrel plans to become an athletic director at the collegiate level where she will develop a sports program to provide children with the opportunity to engage in travel sports and remain active. Latrel previously attended the University of Scranton where she earned a B.A. in History with a Peace and Justice Studies concentration and a minor in Coaching. Canisius College Prosperity Fellows 2016 - 2017 | 2 Lauren Courtade ‘17 Lauren is a proud Buffalo native with a passion for children, education and her community. Lauren will graduate in the spring of 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood/ Special Education with a concentration in math, and extensions in both early childhood and middle school. Lauren is an active member of the Canisius community where she provides tutoring for students in Buffalo schools, serves as an undergraduate research assistant for the JUSTICE Project, and volunteers at community organizations via the Teacher Education Club. Lauren was recently nominated as co-president of Canisius’s chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the international education honor society. Off campus Lauren works as a teacher’s aide at EduKids, where she completed her fellowship internship last summer. Additionally, Lauren is the proud owner and designer of a custom dessert business, My Grandpa’s Sweet Tooth, which she created over three years ago. Following graduation, Lauren plans on enrolling in a Master’s program and teaching in a Buffalo school. She hopes to use her education in order to help all students overcome adversity and achieve success both in and out of the classroom. Canisius College Prosperity Fellows 2016 - 2017 | 3 Haley Edwards ‘17 Raised in a military family, Haley was born in England, maintains residency in Maryland and has been a citizen of the world. She is a Chemistry Health Professions track major in the Pre-Medical Studies program and expects to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in May 2017. Throughout her time at Canisius College, Haley has been an active participant in campus clubs, internships and community volunteer activities dedicated to creating positive change. She serves as Vice President of the Canisius College Afro American Society, is on the Canisius College cheerleading squad, is an active participant of the Society of Pre-Health Professionals and the American Chemical Society, and volunteers at the Somali Bantu after-school program helping young refugees learn English. Haley also completed an internship the Greater Buffalo United Accountable Healthcare Network where she was able to learn about the healthcare problems in Buffalo and served as a teaching assistant in the Chemistry Department. Haley applies her academic, internship and volunteer experiences to build the skills she needs for her aspiring medical career. After graduation, Haley plans on attending a well-ranked medical school to become a doctor. Once established in her career, Haley plans to establish her own medical practice to benefit the communities that impacted her life; Maryland and Buffalo. Canisius College Prosperity Fellows 2016 - 2017 | 4 Erik Ferguson, MBA ‘17 After four years of musical education in Central Florida, award- winning composer Erik Ferguson returned to study in Western New York. As an accelerated MBA candidate, with a concentration in Finance, Erik intends to graduate in the summer of 2017. A Duckwitz scholar at Stetson University, Erik regularly collaborated with over a dozen music ensembles ranging in size from two to over one hundred performers. Erik founded and served as president of the Student Composers Society at Stetson, all while arranging concerts for a separate co-founded project – the popular “A Night at the Console” concert series. Erik is currently collaborating with other composers in Central Florida to form a student composers network. Beyond his Florida music experiences, Erik won Stetson University’s Social Entrepreneurship Pitch Competition in the fall of 2015. He also enjoys teaching and has taken both paid and volunteer positions instructing classes and individuals in music, tennis, and investment strategies in East Amherst and Inlet, NY. Although his degree in music composition and an MBA may seem disparate, Erik intends to use his experience in creating and organization from music and the knowledge from an MBA to found organizations that will build upon Buffalo’s substantial natural and university-based resources. These organizations would, ideally, boost Buffalo’s economy and provide opportunities for those challenged by their individual circumstances, such as the mentally ill, a topic of special concern for Erik. Canisius College Prosperity Fellows 2016 - 2017 | 5 Brannon Jones ‘17 Brannon is a Buffalo native on track to graduate in 2017 with a double major in Psychology and Human Services and a minor in Communication Studies. Brannon is passionate about education and service to humankind, which he demonstrates as a dedicated volunteer at Canisius and in his community. He is active in the Teacher Education Club, serving as a past president, works at a local after-school program assisting K-8th grade students, and regularly participates in service activities with Campus Ministry. Through Campus Ministry, Brannon participated in Canisius service trips to New Orleans and New York City to aid in hurricane disaster relief efforts, initiated a local partnership to connect Canisius students with refugee children, organized the campus-wide day of service Community Day, and led a team of students to Chennai, India to learn about the caste system and related social injustices. Brannon’s future plans are to enroll in the Canisius College Communication and Leadership graduate program. Following his graduates studies, Brannon hopes to use his skills to work at Roswell Park Cancer Institute to create greater outreach, awareness and to further build their development opportunities for the benefit of Buffalo and its citizens. Canisius College Prosperity Fellows 2016 - 2017 | 6 Greg Kopra ‘17 A lifelong Buffalonian, Greg Kopra is a junior majoring in Management with a minor in Human Resource Management. Greg plans to graduate in May 2017. Greg has made the most of his work and volunteer experiences throughout his time at Canisius. He served as a Data Entry Specialist at Rich Products Corporation, was a summer intern in the Aircraft Department at Moog Inc., and was a Camp Counselor at Pioneer Camp and Retreat Center. On campus, Greg served as Monthly Programmer for the Student Programming Board, Special Events Programmer for Project Conservation, HR Management for MyLinkFace, a Language Mentoring Organization, and a Junior Senator for the Undergraduate Student Association. He worked as a Resident Assistant for the Office of Student Life and a Tour Guide for the Office of Admissions. Greg also volunteered his time at the Somali-Bantu Association, Burgard High School, Vive la Casa and recently participated in a Campus Ministry service trip to an orphanage in Poland. Greg is also an active member in his local church’s ministries. Greg plans to continue his life of service and hopes to connect his passion for conservation of the environment to his life’s work by working for a non-profit organization. Canisius College Prosperity Fellows 2016 - 2017 | 7 Juston Lee Locklear ’17 (Juston) Lee Locklear is a North Carolina native, but considers himself an adopted Buffalonian. He has a double major in Marketing and Psychology with a minor in International Management and plans to graduate May 2017. Throughout his time at Canisius, Lee has been extremely involved on campus. He was recently elected President of the American Marketing Association Chapter at Canisius for the 2016-2017 academic year, currently serving as the Vice President of Professional Development in the Chapter. Lee is also a Weekend Programmer on the Student Programming Board and a Resident Assistant for Canisius. Through his first year as a Western New York Prosperity Scholar, Lee was able to secure an internship in the Public Relations Departments of the Buffalo Sabres and the Buffalo Bandits. Upon graduation, Lee plans to work in the area of public relations and aspires to obtain a position with the Buffalo Bills. Lee also plans to open his own Public Relations Consulting agency, where he would like to help small and under recognized companies in the area reach their full potential. Canisius College Prosperity Fellows 2016 - 2017 | 8 Marc Mallare ’16, MBAA ‘17 Marc is an Amherst native who recently graduated from Canisius with an Accounting and Accounting Information Systems double major.
