NOTES FOR TONIGHT Looking Ahead to 2018-19 The Golden Knights (51-24-7 in 2017-18) already sit just 13 wins shy of setting the NHL record for wins through 100 regular-season games (Nov. 11 at BOS). The original were 63-37-0 in their first 100 games (1917-22), while the Canadiens (53-47-0; 1917-22), Maple Leafs (52-48-0; 1917-22) and Rangers (50-32-18; 1926-28) are the only other clubs with 50+ wins in their first 100 games.

Raising and Chasing Banners Prior to the game against Philadelphia, the Golden Knights will unveil Western Conference championship and a Pacific Division championship banners in the rafters of T-Mobile Arena to celebrate the team's success during their inaugural season. Vegas can become the first franchise in NHL history to finish atop a division in each of its first two seasons. The only other franchises to win their division in their inaugural season were the Rangers (American Division in 1926-27) and Flyers (all-expansion West Division in 1967- 68), but neither repeated the same success the following year.

NOTES OF THE NIGHT

Claude Giroux enters his seventh season as the of the Flyers, joining Bobby Clarke as the only players to captain the club in seven or more campaigns. Giroux is coming off a career year of 34 goals and 68 assists for 102 points, which put him second in the league in scoring. Giroux’s next assist will give him sole possession of third all-time in franchise history, and he starts the year 21 points away from fourth all-time on the team’s scoring list.

Joining Giroux in having career-best seasons last year were Jake Voracek (20-65-85) and Sean Couturier (31-45-76). Voracek is two points away from 400 for his career, while Couturier is two games away from 400 in that category.

James van Riemsdyk returned to the Flyers as a free agent in July. van Riemsdyk was originally selected by the Flyers in the first round (2nd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and appeared in 196 games from 2009-12 before being traded to the , where he spent the last six seasons. van Riemsdyk is coming off a career-high 36-goal season with the Leafs, and averaged more than 3.7 goals every ten games during his 413-game Toronto career.

Shayne Gostisbehere had 13 goals and 52 assists for 65 points last year, which was the highest-scoring season by a Flyers defenseman since Garry Galley had 70 in 1993-94. Gostisbehere’s 52 assists are the third-highest single season total by a defenseman in franchise history, behind only Mark Howe’s 58 in 1985-86 and Galley’s 60 in that 1993-94 campaign.

Mikhail Vorobyev is slated to make his NHL debut tonight after posting two goals and five assists for seven points during training camp. Vorobyev appeared in seven of the eight games – the only Flyer to do so – and led the team in assists and points. Vorobyev played his first season in North America last year with the Flyers’ affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, where he had nine goals and 20 assists in 58 games. The year prior, Vorobyev had 10 assists in seven games for Russia at the World Junior Championships. Vorobyev was selected by the Flyers in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He would become the third Flyer from that draft to play for the club, joining Ivan Provorov and Travis Konecny.

Oskar Lindblom also finds himself on the Flyers’ opening night roster for the first time. It comes after he made his NHL debut last year and appeared in 23 games, posting two goals and four assists for six points. Lindblom was selected by the Flyers in the fifth round (138 th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

The Flyers received 50 goals from defensemen last season, which was the most the Flyers have gotten from their blue line since the 1992-93 season, when the D scored 52 goals.

Last season marked the first since 1970-71 that the Flyers did not have at least one player over 100 PIM. Radko Gudas led the team last year with 83 PIM.

Philadelphia Flyers: Head Coach and Player Bios Head Coach: Dave Hakstol Dave Hakstol was named the 19th head coach in Flyers history on May 18, 2015. He enters his third season as head coach of the Flyers. Hakstol, 47 (7/30/1968), came to the Flyers from the University of North Dakota, where he served as the head coach of the school’s hockey program for 11 seasons. During that time, Hakstol’s teams posted an overall record of 289-143-43 (.654). The Warburg, Alberta native led UND to the NCAA postseason in each of his 11 seasons, including seven appearances in the NCAA Frozen Four, most of any program in the country during that span. North Dakota won three regular-season conference titles under Hakstol (WCHA 2008-09 and 2010-11; NCHC 2014-15). He also led UND to four WCHA playoff titles (05-06, 09-10, 10-11 and 11-12).
