FIDE Trainers Committee V22.1.2005
FIDE Training! Don’t miss the action! by International Master Jovan Petronic Chairman, FIDE Computer & Internet Chess Committee In 1998 FIDE formed a powerful Committee comprising of leading chess trainers around the chess globe. Accordingly, it was named the FIDE Trainers Committee, and below, I will try to summarize the immense useful information for the readers, current major chess training activities and appeals of the Committee, etc. Among their main tasks in the period 1998-2002 were FIDE licensing of chess trainers and the recognition of these by the International Olympic Committee, benefiting in the long run, to all chess federations, trainers and their students. The proven benefits of playing and studying chess have led to countries, such as Slovenia, introducing chess into their compulsory school curiccullum! The ASEAN Chess Academy, headed by FIDE Vice President, FM, IA & IO - Ignatius Leong, has organized from November 7th to 14th 2003 - a Training Course under the auspices of FIDE and the International Olympic Committee! IM Nikola Karaklajic from Serbia & Montenegro provided the training. The syllabus was targeted for middle and lower levels. At the time, the ASEAN Chess Academy had a syllabus for 200 lessons of 90 minutes each! I am personally proud of having completed such a Course in Singapore. You may view the official Certificate I received here. Another Trainers’ Course was conducted by FIDE and the Asean Chess Academy from 12th to 17th December 2004! Extensive testing was done, here is the list of the candidates who had passed the FIDE Trainer high criteria! The main lecturer was FIDE Senior Trainer Israel Gelfer. -
Chess Festival
Boris Gelfand’s Remarkable Comeback Yochanan Afek reports back from the star-studded Netanya International Chess Festival A big International Festival was organised in the coastal Israeli city of Netanya by the Israeli Chess Federation and the local municipality, supported by the generosity of businessman Roman Abramovich, likely best known to the readers as the owner of Chelsea Football Club. It has been quite a while since Netanya last hosted a strong international chess event, but the city has a long and respectable tradition of grandmaster tournaments. They were initially part of the popular Schach-Kait (Chess & Holiday) festival. Over the years various master tournaments were held as well as many editions of a grandmaster crown group, whose winners included the world- class icons Bobby Fischer (1968), Sammy Reshevsky (1969), Lubomir Kavalek (1971 and 1973), and Jan Timman (1975), as well as local heroes Yair Kraidman (1964) and Moshe Czerniak (1965). Played in the VIP room of the city’s Ilya Smirin might be in his fifties, but still produces plenty of attacking and exciting games. football stadium and consisting of two major sections, this year’s edition of the Netanya International Festival was both the biggest beaten in just 25 moves by Tamir Nabaty, 66 g5! Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival 2017 Monday 23 January - Thursday 2 February 2017 Round 8 Report: Tuesday 31 January 2017 - by John Saunders (@JohnChess) Happy Birthday to Ju After an unpromising start, with most of the leading games ending in draws, round eight of the Tradewise Gibraltar Masters sprang to life towards the end of the first session and delivered some pulsating games of chess. By the end of the round, a fifth player had been added to the group of players on the top score when Veselin Topalov defeated Emil Sutovsky. In the next score group there were wins for a resurgent Fabiano Caruana against GN Gopal, plus Laurent Fressinet, David Howell and SP Sethuraman, while for the second day running the star game of the day was played by one of the women competitors when Ju Wenjun produced a tremendous finish to defeat the only woman player above her on the rating list, Hou Yifan. Ju Wenjun celebrated her 26th birthday in style So, with two rounds to play, the five leaders are David Anton Guijarro (Spain), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France), Hikaru Nakamura (USA), Yu Yangyi (China) and Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria) on 6½/8, with 14 players, including two women players, Ju Wenjun (China) and Antoaneta Stefanova (Bulgaria), on 6. Anton Guijarro pressed Vachier-Lagrave but couldn't break his resistance The two games between the four leaders produced well-fought draws. David Anton Guijarro of Spain gave further evidence of his developing prowess by pressing hard against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and coming out of the early middlegame a pawn up. -
