By Ross Lees Any Cut for the Cure is emotional, but the Cut for the Cure at 8 Wing’s Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess Thursday afternoon was especially poignant for a number of reasons. First, a large number of people stepped up to have their hair cut for this worthy cause and an even larger number of people reached deep into their pockets to help them raise over $8,723, although the final total was not known at press time. With its dedication to serve Canadians at home, the CC-130J Hercules fleet has actively participated in a number of operations and joint exercises including assisting in the evacuation of Canadians from forest fires in the summer of 2011. In addition, September 2011 marked the first time that the annual resupply mission to Canadian Forces Station Alert in the Arctic (Operation Boxtop) was carried out using solely CC-130Js. The CC-130J fleet routinely flies approximately six aircraft a day in support of both 436 and 426 squadrons. “This has been made possible, in no small way, due to the significant efforts of the CC- 130J aircrew and maintainers at 436 Squadron who strive to excel with a still-growing cadre of experience as they continue to train in order to reach the fleet’s full operational capability,” said LCol Keiver.
