  • Cablevision and Fox Had an Agreement for Cablevision to Carry WNYW, WWOR, and WTXF That Expired at 11:59 Pm EDT on October 15, 2010
Cablevision and Fox had an agreement for Cablevision to carry WNYW, WWOR, and WTXF that expired at 11:59 pm EDT on October 15, 2010. They have been negotiating to renew that agreement, but failed to reach a new agreement before the deadline. As a result, Cablevision stopped carrying WNYW, WWOR, and WTXF. This dispute affects only Cablevision subscribers who wish to view programming on WNYW, WWOR, and WTXF. It does not affect Cablevision’s other programming, except as otherwise described below. If Cablevision and Fox reach a new agreement in the future, the affected programming may be restored to Cablevision’s system. Background Cable and satellite operators carry local television broadcast stations based on contracts with the stations. When these contracts end, the parties extend or renew the contract. In almost all cases, agreement is reached and the station is carried without interruption. On some occasions, the operator and the station fail to reach an agreement, and the cable or satellite operator must drop the station until an agreement is reached. These are private agreements, though federal law requires the parties to negotiate with each other in good faith. What can I do while WNYW, WWOR, and WTXF are not available on Cablevision systems? If you wish to view WNYW, WWOR, or WTXF, you may be able to use one of the following options to continue viewing the station: 1. Subscribe to another pay service that is carrying the station. In the affected areas, other available pay services include: AT&T, DIRECTV, DISH Network, RCN (limited areas of Brooklyn), and Verizon FIOS.

Rachel Graham. Gender Role Reinforcement in Popular Magazine Advertising. A Master’s Paper for the M.S. in L.S. degree. April, 2003. 27 pages. Advisor: Claudia J. Gollop. One month’s issue of five men’s (Details, Esquire, GQ, Maxim, and Stuff) and five women’s (Cosmopolitan, Elle, Glamour, MarieClaire, and Vogue) fashion and leisure magazines were examined for the types of products advertised. If the advertising reflected traditional gender roles, the women’s magazines would advertise products that focus on changing the self, while the men’s magazines would advertise lifestyle- enhancing products. Results showed that both the men’s and the women’s magazines had many pages of clothing and accessories advertising. The women’s magazines did contain more advertising of personal care products, and the men’s magazines contained more advertising of lifestyle products. However, the women’s magazines did contain some lifestyle products advertising, and the men’s magazines also contained some personal care products advertising, so it was not split totally across gender lines. CBS Digital Media And CBS News Announce Broadband 24-Hour News Network Cable News Bypass Strategy Catapults CBSNews.com into the Multi-Platform Future of Network News "Public Eye," a New Blog, To Debut on the Site Later This Summer NEW YORK, July 12, 2005 -- CBS Digital Media and CBS News today announced plans for a major expansion of CBSNews.com, creating a 24-hour, multi-platform digital news network, bypassing cable television in favor of the nation's fastest-growing distribution system -- broadband. The joint announcement was made by Larry Kramer, President, CBS Digital Media, and Andrew Heyward, President, CBS News. In so doing, CBS News will move from a primarily television and radio news-based operation to a 24-hour, on-demand news service, available across many platforms, drawing on the experienced, worldwide, award-winning resources of the Division. The new CBSNews.com will include: • an on-demand, 24-hour news network in the digital broadband space; • a blog to be called "Public Eye" designed to provide greater openness and transparency into the newsgathering process; • a newly-configured homepage including The EyeBox, an on-page video player showcasing the free broadband video of CBSNews.com including over 25,000 clips -- and video yet to be broadcast on the network; • a commitment by CBS News fully to integrate its personnel and other global newsgathering resources to provide exclusive, original reporting and commentary around the clock. "This major expansion of CBSNews.com is designed to capture an audience that is increasingly looking for news and information at all times of the day, not just during scheduled periods, and using the Internet for that purpose," said Kramer.
