  • Penny Lancaster Provokes a Rant !
PENNY LANCASTER PROVOKES A RANT ! The Mail on Sunday for 21st January 2018 featured model Penny Lancaster, who is their new “Family Life” correspondent. Most of the article related to her happy marriage to rock idol Rod Stewart, their two sons, and the good relationships she has forged with her step-children. Penny Lancaster is a high-achieving woman in her own right. She has been a successful fashion model, subsequently becoming a professional photographer. She is regular panellist on TV’s “Loose Women” and was a contestant on “Strictly Come Dancing.” Now she is about to launch into a new venture, as a columnist in “The Mail on Sunday”. What a glittering, glamorous life she enjoys! Then suddenly, towards the end of the article, she reveals a secret she has kept for years – that she is dyslexic. She always knew there was something wrong but was never diagnosed, until now, at the age of 46 and with her husband’s encouragement. How could such a high-flying, beautiful, successful woman, who seems to carry all before her, have self-doubts because of dyslexia? She gives us the reason with scalding honesty. When she was a schoolgirl her father was concerned about her lack of progress with reading and writing and suggested extra English lessons, to be told by her teacher: “Why bother? She’ll never amount to anything.” I would bet Penny Lancaster can hear those words in her head as clearly today as the day they were uttered. They have stayed with her since childhood. What a wicked, cruel thing for anybody to say, and of all people, the child’s teacher.

Ballroom Dancing 国标舞 1 Ballroom Dancing 国标舞 Celebrity Dance Show Popular Year after Year 名流国标舞表演日趋看好 Read the text below and do the activity that follows. 阅读下面的短文,然后完成练习: Ballroom dancing in the UK used to be seen as something rather unfashionable that old people might do. For the past five years though, the popularity of ballroom dancing has soared thanks to a reality TV show. Strictly Come Dancing is one of the BBC's big TV shows. Millions of people tune in every Saturday night to watch the show which airs from September right up to Christmas. In the show a number of professional ballroom dancers each partner up with a celebrity. Every week they have to learn a different ballroom dance and perform it live on TV on the Saturday night. Four judges, all of whom have a background in professional dance, give the celebrities scores and comments about their dances. It is then up to the public to call in and vote for their favourite couple. The two least favourite then have to dance again and the judges decide who stays in the competition and who leaves. The show demonstrates how glamorous ballroom dancing is. The celebrities get to wear colourful dresses and sequinned suits to dance in, and it looks like a lot of fun. The TV programme also shows what good exercise it can be to ballroom dance and what hard work is involved in learning the dances and performing them properly. Dance schools around the country have seen a boost in the number of people wanting to learn how to dance.

  • A Guide to the Effective Involvement of Children and Young People
A Guide to the Effective Involvement of Children and Young People A Guide to The Effective Involvement of Children and Young People Resource Pack Go to Chapter A Guide to the Effective Involvement of Children and Young People Why are we asking children and young people their views? Every child, young person or parent/carer is a member of society. Organisations provide services for people living in that community or society so it’s important that they are consulted and involved in the provision of services. Services need to be inclusive, relevant, cost effective, meet their users needs, improve things, and be accessible. You will be able to check all these things by involving children and young people & their families. Althought reference is made to parent and carers views and involvement, this guide is primarily concerned about the effective involvement of children and young people. Since the passing of the Children Act in 2004, there has been a growing emphasis on services actively involving children, young people and parents/carers in the Go to Chapter commissioning, development and evaluation of services. Increasingly Central and Local Government is interested in measuring outcomes rather than focussing on performance measures. They want to know about users’ perceptions of the services they receive and their views on how things can be improved. Particular attention will be given to how services are implementing the five Every Child Matters outcomes: • Being Healthy • Staying Safe • Enjoying and Achieving • Making a Positive Contribution • Achieving Economic Well Being NEXT 2 A Guide to the Effective Involvement of Children and Young People Parental participation Parents, carers and families play a vital part in the development and delivery of services.
