OUR OPINION Utility committees must lead to positive growth he City of Lake City’s resurrection of its internal advisory committee to discuss any and all things Tutility, whether it’s maintenance, rates or proposed ordinances headed to a City Council decision, is a prudent move. Utilities are the lifeblood of the city and the most important ingredient to seeing our city and county flour- ish with strong, healthy commercial and industrial devel- opments. Having more discussions about these import- ant issues is in the best interest of every taxpayer. This City Council that recently began a new term in November seems to be grasping the task at hand with a focus and intent to make sure utilities remain at the fore- front of city and public discussions. The committee’s biggest pitfall will be slowing prog- ress through too much bureaucracy. Our hope is that timely, organized committee meetings can stay on point and sort through things clearly in order to pass them along to the City Council for a full vote on whatever mat- ter is being considered. This utility momentum hopefully will carry over to the newest government committee, the city and county’s joint utility advisory committee that will discuss big-pic- ture projects and procedure and, more importantly, put a price tag on these. This committee also will help craft a master plan for future utility developments and improve- ments in regard to economic development sites in the city and county. Covid vaccines an incredible accomplishment Our hope is the excitement and the momentum that currently exists will continue.
