Worship, in the verb form, means the paying of homage or respect, and in the religious world the term is used for the reverent devotion, service, or honor, whether in public or individual paid to God. Webster Dictionary lists the following 12 words as either similar words for worship or synonymous of worship:- Adore, Admire, Dote, Esteem, Exhault, Love, Magnify, Regard, Respect, Revere, Reverence or Venerate. Having read a lot about worship, let me then define worship as an attitude that manifest itself in action. TYPES OF WORSHIP 1. True Worship (John 4:20-24) 2. Vain Worship This Worship is the result of following traditions of men and ignoring the commands of God. Also when worship is not done from the heart. 3. Ignorant Worship - Acts 17:22-23. This is worship offered in the absence of a knowledge of God’s will concerning who He is and how to be worshiped. 4. Self Imposed Worship Referred to by Paul in Col 2:20-23, closely aligned with vain worship, is the result of doing what we like and we think is good, but not taught by God in the word. It should be evident, then that not just any kind of worship is acceptable to God but only One which is TRUE WORSHIP. Children of God, there are different types of worship, but only one is now acceptable to the Father. We see that this worship is “in spirit and in truth”. It is not the physical worship found in the O.T which was only a “shadow” of what was to come, but a spiritual worship which is the true substance of what God wants of us in worship. Brethren the Scripture tells us that God inhabits the praises of His people. True worship creates an environment that the presence of God Himself will inhabit, and when God truly comes into our worship, everything changes and miracle happens. Our Worship involves giving not getting. Think about these questions as we conclude; 1. Am I growing each day in the grace of gratitude? 2. Am I seeking to honour God in all that I do? 3. Do I greatly anticipate and look forward to each time of worship? 4. Do I bring the right heart as I engage in worship to God? Wishing you all a Happy Sunday PARISH CYCLE OF PRAYER Kindly Pray for: The Most. Revd Williams Oluwarotimi Aladekugbe, Oyo – (Ibadan, Nigeria). The Rt. Revd Olumuyiwa Ajayi Pankshin – (Jos, Nigeria). The Episcopal Church of the Nativity The Window Volume 24, Issue 7 July 2017 From the Rector Katie and the kids and I have been at Beckwith for a couple days now. Fresh off the joy of Vacation Bible School at Nativity, she is serving as the camp nurse and I as the dean for the week. Various clergy members from around the diocese are asked to serve in this capacity each summer. The dean at a summer camp week is respon- sible for crafting a program to present each evening to the partici- pants. This summer the theme is “Do justly, love mercy, walk hum- bly with your God.” The dean’s program is just one aspect of the Beckwith experience, though. The rest of the program responsibilities are handled by the summer camp staff and director. The staff this week has put me in mind of the legacy we leave our children. This past year, Beckwith hired one of the students from the youth group at Christ Church in Pensacola as the program director. Addie Boyd-Quina not only oversees the sum- mer camp program, but all the programming aspects of our camp and conference center. Addie was one of the young people to whom Katie and I were the closest when we served at Christ Church and it is a joy to see her passing on the faith to another generation of young people. Her staff this summer also has members whom I know well. Our own Amber Somma is serving as a staff member. Philip Iversen, who is serving as the camp music director, is the child of an old friend I know through my work with teens in the diocese.

  • Cycle of Prayer 2 April 2017 - 12 August 2017
Cycle of Prayer 2 April 2017 - 12 August 2017 Diocese of Chester Receive the daily Cycle of Prayer on: www.facebook.com/dioceseofchester www.twitter.com/chesterdiocese Key: C = Clergy LM = Licensed Lay Minister (Reader) (Pastoral Worker) (Youth Worker) Diocesan entries from the Anglican Cycle of Prayer are in italics. Foreword A certain Thomas Buxton said this about prayer: ‘You know the value of prayer: it is precious beyond all price. Never, never neglect it.’ So, set aside a time (or times) each day where you can pray and be open to receiving and responding to God’s love. Calm and still yourself; pay attention to your breathing. Read some Scripture. You might like to use prayers written by others or the Daily Office, or you might prefer to use your own words. If you do, be yourself. Talk honestly and openly to God. Don’t stuff your prayers with lots of words. True prayer is about setting self aside (or losing our life as Jesus puts it) and wanting God instead. You might simply want to sit in silence in God’s presence. A bishop once came across a working man praying by himself in church and asked him what he was doing. ‘I look at Him and He looks at me’ was the reply. Pray from out of a sense of thankfulness for your life and from the love that God wants you to have for others. Ask that your faith would develop and mature and that God would help you to grow in the ‘fruit of the Holy Spirit’.
