RANGAREDDY DISTRICT – 2019 We acknowledge the content from Rangareddy - telangana.gov.in Ranga Reddy district, abbreviated as, R R district and also known as Cyberabad district and formerly known as Hyderabad Rural, is one of the 33 districts in the Indian state of Telangana. The district headquarters is located at Shamshabad.[2][3] The district was named after the former deputy chief minister of the joint state of Andhra Pradesh, Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy.[4] The district shares boundaries with Nalgonda, Yadadri, Hyderabad, Medchal, Nagarkurnool, Mahabubnagar, Sangareddy and Vikarabad districts In 2011, Rangareddy had population of 5,296,741 of which male and female were 2,701,008 and 2,595,733 respectively. In 2001 census, Rangareddy had a population of 3,575,064 of which males were 1,839,227 and remaining 1,735,837 were females. Rangareddy District population constituted 6.26 percent of total Maharashtra population. In 2001 census, this figure for Rangareddy District was at 4.69 percent of Maharashtrapopulation. There was change of 48.16 percent in the population compared to population as per 2001. In the previous census of India 2001, Rangareddy District recorded increase of 40.09 percent to its population compared to 1991. History[edit] The district was formed in 1978 when it was split from Hyderabad district.[5][6]Originally named Hyderabad Rural district, it was renamed after Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy, a freedom fighter who fought for the independence of Telangana from the Nizams and who went on to become the deputy chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. In 2016, it was carved out during the district's reorganisation to create the new Vikarabad district and Medchal–Malkajgiri district.[4] Geography Ranga Reddy District occupies an area of approximately 7,500 square kilometres (2,900 sq mi).[7] A freshwater reservoir, called Osman Sagar, Himayath Sagar, on the river Musi at Gandipet, is the prime drinking water source for the capital city of Hyderabad/Secunderabad. Demographics[edit] According to the 2011 census, Ranga Reddy District has a population of 2,446,265, of which 1,254,184 were males and 1,192,081 were females.[8] Economy[edit] Medium-scale industries and Cement Corporation Of India (CCI)'s cement factories are established at Tandur. Another major company is Hyderabad Chemicals and Fertilizers, established at Moula-Ali in 1942. In 2006 the Indian government named Ranga Reddy one of the country's 250 most backward districts (out of a total of 640).[9] It is one of the 33 districts in Telangana currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF).[9] Administrative divisions[edit] The district will have five revenue divisions: Chevella, Ibrahimpatnam, Rajendranagar, Kandukur and Shadnagar. They are Chevella, Rajendranagar, L. B. Nagar, Shadnagar, Serlingampally, Ibrahimpatnam and Maheshwaram. River Basins The district can be divided into three broad basins. A major part (65%) of the district is covered by Musi river basin (Osman sagar and Himayat sagar for drinking purpose). The next largest basin is the Kagna basin a tributary to Bhima River. There is a good potential in this basin, which can irrigate large areas. The third basin is the Manjeera, which is part of the Godavari basin where the area under irrigation is limited. Ranga Reddy district comprises of plains, but is mostly criss - cross with rivers, seasonal rivulets and small streams. Area of Rangareddy District Area of Rangareddy is 7493 Sq. Km. Note: Kutch district(45441 sq.km) of Gujarat is the largest and Mahe district(9 sq km) of Puducherry is the smallest district in India. Literacy Rate Average literacy rate of Rangareddy in 2011 were 75.87 compared to 66.16 of 2001. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy were 82.11 and 69.40 respectively. For 2001 census, same figures stood at 75.26 and 56.49 in Rangareddy District. Total literate in Rangareddy District were 3,538,028 of which male and female were 1,948,784 and 1,589,244 respectively. In 2001, Rangareddy District had 2,034,381 in its district. Sex Ratio With regards to Sex Ratio in Rangareddy, it stood at 961 per 1000 male compared to 2001 census figure of 944. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per latest reports of Census 2011 Directorate. In 2011 census, child sex ratio is 933 girls per 1000 boys compared to figure of 959 girls per 1000 boys of 2001 census data. Child Population In census enumeration, data regarding child under 0-6 age were also collected for all districts including Rangareddy. There were total 633,172 children under age of 0-6 against 500,024 of 2001 census. Of total 633,172 male and female were 327,563 and 305,609 respectively. Child Sex Ratio as per census 2011 was 933 compared to 959 of census 2001. In 2011, Children under 0-6 formed 11.95 percent of Rangareddy District compared to 13.99 percent of 2001. There was net change of -2.04 percent in this compared to previous census of India. In total 3,719,172 people lives in urban areas of which males are 1,899,995 and females are 1,819,177. Sex Ratio in urban region of Rangareddy district is 957 as per 2011 census data. Similarly child sex ratio in Rangareddy district was 931 in 2011 census. Child population (0-6) in urban region was 440,324 of which males and females were 228,068 and 212,256. This child population figure of Rangareddy district is 12.00 % of total urban population. Average literacy rate in Rangareddy district as per census 2011 is 82.31 % of which males and females are 87.04 % and 77.39 % literates respectively. In actual number 2,698,841 people are literate in urban region of which males and females are 1,455,291 and 1,243,550 respectively. Rural Population As per 2011 census, 29.78 % population of Rangareddy districts lives in rural areas of villages. The total Rangareddy district population living in rural areas is 1,577,569 of which males and females are 801,013 and 776,556 respectively. In rural areas of Rangareddy district, sex ratio is 969 females per 1000 males. If child sex ratio data of Rangareddy district is considered, figure is 938 girls per 1000 boys. Child population in the age 0-6 is 192,848 in rural areas of which males were 99,495 and females were 93,353. The child population comprises 12.42 % of total rural population of Rangareddy district. Literacy rate in rural areas of Rangareddy district is 60.60 % as per census data 2011. Gender wise, male and female literacy stood at 70.35 and 50.60 percent respectively. In total, 839,187 people were literate of which males and females were 493,493 and 345,694 respectively.
