ANNUAL REPORT 2017-18 NSWCUSA 1 Message from the Executive Officer Members & Affiliated Associations, It gives the NSWCUSA management team great pleasure to present for your consideration and adoption the Annual Report of your Association that covers its activities during the financial year from 1 May 2017 to 30 April 2018. Complementing the Annual Report are the Honorary Treasurer’s Statement of Financial Performance for the year ended 30 April 2018 and the Statement of Financial Position as at that date. The Annual Report is placed online, but is available to be sent as a book to members on request. In working on this Annual Report we reflect on the exceptional commitment members of this Association make to cricket. You serve the game in an exemplary fashion from grass roots level in New South Wales to the international arena. The Association is making progress through the positive collaboration, contribution, dedication and performance of our members. Thank you one and all. “A team is not a group of people who work together. A team is a group of people who trust each other.” – Simon Sinek. Troy Penman (Administration Manager) and Nic Bills (Administration Officer) are commended for their outstanding work in organising and compiling this report. They are excellent administrators, and people, who work tirelessly for the benefit of New South Wales Cricket Umpires’ and Scorers’ Association. It was a impressive year for your Association, details of which are highlighted in the pages that follow. There have been substantial opportunities for umpires and scorers to develop, improve and gain experience. Many of our colleagues have achieved excellence in the representative pathways, some at international level. This has come about through diligence, commitment and ability. 2 NSWCUSA ANNUAL REPORT 2017-18 “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” – Colin Powell. We trust you find the historical records of your Association’s 105th year of interest. We look forward to serving cricket with positive energy throughout New South Wales in season 2018-19 as we attempt to recruit match officials and raise officiating standards across the State. We aim to consolidate the implementation of the 2017 Code of the Laws of Cricket, and provide more professional development experiences for members. Our training and examination teams did a fantastic job in 2017-18 and are preparing for the ongoing challenge. The highest of all human abilities is the ability each one of us has to choose how we respond to the circumstances we find ourselves within. When each one of us chooses peak performance and personal leadership the organisation itself gets to world-class speedily. Our aim is to be a world- class Umpires’ and Scorers’ Association and a leader in our field. “One of the greatest freedoms each of us has as people is the freedom to choose how we view our roles in the world and the power we all have to make positive decisions in whatever conditions we happen to find ourselves.” – Robin Sharma. R. D. Goodger Executive Officer Ian James and Mike McKenzie with the Captains prior to the match ANNUAL REPORT 2017-18 NSWCUSA 3 Cricket NSW Values The New South Wales Cricket values describe how we work, make decisions and the behaviours we display to help deliver on the New South Wales Cricket Strategy. The sporting field is where friendships are formed, life skills are learned and heroes are made — and this is why in 2013–14 the Australian Government invested almost $120 million in our national sporting organisations despite a challenging economic environment. In the past year the ASC has worked with sports to reform their governance structures and develop strategic and commercial capabilities. The ASC is determined to create better businesses — ones that will thrive in the years ahead — and we are leading the way with a lean and agile operating model and ongoing commitment to our own good governance. One of the highlights of 2013–14 was the Australian Government’s announcement of the Sporting Schools program. This $100 million program, which builds upon the successful Active After-school Communities program, will commence in 2015 and reach more than 850,000 children.

  • Sussex CCC Vs Australia a Tourist Match Arundel Castle Cricket Ground, Arundel Sunday 7Th – Wednesday 11Th July 2019
Sussex CCC vs Australia A Tourist Match Arundel Castle Cricket Ground, Arundel Sunday 7th – Wednesday 11th July 2019 Day One Late bursts from James Pattinson and Michael Neser seized the initiative for Australia 'A' on the first day of their first-class match against Sussex at Arundel Castle. Sussex won the toss and batted after persistent drizzle prevented play from starting until just after 3.30pm. The home side made a positive start with Phil Salt (37) and Varun Chopra (30) putting on an opening stand of 69 inside 14 overs. After the pair departed to Jackson Bird and Pattinson in consecutive overs, Luke Wells and Laurie Evans then combined to take Sussex to 112 for 2 with six overs of the day remaining. What had looked like being a solid start to the match was rocked, however, with three wickets falling for just six runs. First, Neser nipped one past Evans' outside edge and knocked back his off stump. Three overs later and Pattinson - with 70 wickets in 17 Test matches behind him - beat Wells between bat and pad with the same end result. Sussex debutant, Aneesh Kapil then fended a rising Pattinson delivery to Marcus Harry in the gully, leaving Delray Rawlins and nightwatchman to see their side through to the close on 118 for 5. Day Two Delray Rawlins made the fourth century of his first-class career before Australia 'A' made Sussex's bowlers toil on day two of the tourist match at Arundel Castle. Resuming on his overnight score of five not out, Rawlins' knock was a classy affair, made all the more impressive by the fact it was scored against an Australian bowling attack boasting 277 Test match wickets.

Minister Nash has spoken, do not expect any more government support for “bleeding” tourism businesses. Unless there is a change of alert levels. Ok, so rather than be proactive and support the tourism industry, just cut us off at the knees and only feed us a bit of wage subsidy every time another community outbreak occurs. Case in point right now with Auckland at Level 3. Thanks Minister Nash, thanks Prime Minister Ardern. That is really positive and kind. Community outbreaks here and in Australia will keep happening. That’s a given but no reason to abandon plans for an Aussie Bubble and giving hope to “bleeding” tourism in our region. The Aussies let Kiwis enter without quarantine, then quickly and defi nitively shut us off at the fi rst sniff of Covid, as they have done now with the latest outbreak. They do the same thing domestically. Look at Victoria. Cut off from the rest of Australia. But you can still travel Sydney to Brisbane return with no quarantine.
