Mark French - 2002 Victorian Cyclist of the Year 2002 – 2003 Annual Report CycleSport Victoria President’s Report Finance I am delighted to announce that for the fifth year running, CycleSport Victoria has returned a trading surplus and we have achieved what I believe is a better than satisfactory result. A lot of hard work has been invested in returning this result and I commend the Board and staff for their constant cost monitoring, with a special mention going to our finance director, Trevor Wilkie. With our new home within reach, this surplus will be essential in providing the best possible membership benefits from the new facility. As a result of the Junior Worlds being conducted, the surplus funds here have now been transacted to CSV under the agreement that the money is spent on a major project. In this case, the money will be allocated directly to the timing equipment required at the No 2 training velodrome. CSV has also now had the trust money passed across from the trustees, holding the money on our behalf. This money will be allocated directly to the seating provision in the back straight of the training velodrome. In terms of significant purchases made this financial year, a new photocopier was purchased for the office at a cost of $13,000. Membership CSV have continued to work tirelessly on offering and providing a greater level and range of servicing to our members. The website for one continues to provide excellent service. With race entries, results, club contacts, handicaps, velodrome details and latest information amongst many more sections, it is an excellent resource to any member and the general public.

  • RACE HANDBOOK 47Th Edition - 10Th June 2012 Girvan: South Ayrshire
RACE HANDBOOK 47th Edition - 10th June 2012 Girvan: South Ayrshire 1 | P a g e Welcome to the 47th South Carrick David Bell Memorial Race Here we go again! Can it really be a year since our last outing? Time plays tricks for sure, but fresh and vivid are my memories of watching Rapha-Condor-Sharp’s James McCallum conquer our strada grigio before launching his audacious winning attack. As cycling-journalist Ed Hood observed “I didn’t think sprinters were meant to win on their own!” Ours is a race we refer to as a Scottish ‘monument’ and 2011 will long be remembered a classic; not only for the unfolding drama of the race but also the stunning backdrop. Goosebumps watching the bunch ascend onto the barren moor road above Dalmellington; the thrill of seeing the pack rocket around the twists and turns of the Loch Doon road, and the cacophonous racket and dust cloud as we hit the now-fabled Carrick Forest Drive for the very first time! “I was there” – that’s all we’ll ever need to say. This year, our 47th Edition, sees our race grow again with our promotion to ‘National A’ status. We welcome our title sponsors, South Ayrshire Council and South Carrick Community Leisure, who have bought into our vision to put the Davie Bell on the national and international stage by 2015. This will mark the 50th running of the event honouring our club founder, and popular wordsmith David E.T. Bell. What would Bell make of the race run in his name? If truth be told he was no racer, but as an adventurer and pioneer I like to think he would admire our bold ambitions.

  • Josh Taylor Moves to Top Rank and Closer to 140-Pound Classic Against Jose Ramirez
Opening The Door: Josh Taylor moves to Top Rank and closer to 140-pound classic against Jose Ramirez By Norm Frauenheim- Top Rank’s roster got deeper and its reach grew farther with Thursday’s surprising announcement that it had signed Josh Taylor, the Scottish junior-welterweight whose imminent stardom was evident in his majority decision over Regis Prograis for two of the 140-pound belts in late October. It was the second signing of worldwide significance for Top Rank, which signed bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue on the same day in November when he beat Nonito Donaire in a Fight of the Year performance. From Japan to Scotland, the sun never sets on Top Rank’s promotional empire these days. The top of the pound-for-pound debate provides a pretty good look at a promotional roster that is long on substance and name recognition. Among the top five, the order changes, but three are Top Rank fighters – Terence Crawford, Vasiliy Lomachenko and Inoue. Canelo Alvarez of Golden Boy and Errol Spence Jr. of PBC complete the elite five. There’s a chance, a good one, that more Top Rank fighters will begin to climb into pound-for-pound consideration on Top Rank’s ESPN schedule throughout 2020. There’s light- heavyweight Artur Beterbiev, junior-welterweight Jose Ramirez, lightweight Teofimo Lopez, featherweight Shakur Stevenson, junior-featherweight Emanuel Navarrete and now Taylor. For Taylor, it all depends on how he does against Ramirez. Taylor’s new deal opened the door for a Taylor-Ramirez fight for all of the relevant pieces to the 140-pound puzzle.

JOHNSON: THIS IS MAKE-OR- BREAK AGAINST MONAGHAN Callum Johnson says his clash with Sean Monaghan on Saturday at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York on Saturday March 9, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK, is a bigger fight than his World title challenge – as victory can lead to another World title shot, but defeat sends him to the wilderness. TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW PRICED FROM $49 VIA TICKETMASTER.COM Johnson (17-1-0 12KOs) challenged Artur Beterbiev for the IBF World Light-Heavyweight title in the first ever live show on American soil on DAZN, and the pair put on a hell-raising shootout, with Johnson climbing off the canvas in the opening round to send Beterbiev to the deck in the second session. The Russian champion rose from the floor to stop the Brit challenger in the fourth round to hold onto his belt and unbeaten status – but Johnson certainly made fight fans stand up and take notice of his ferocious power. Johnson is back in the US for a crunch showdown with Monaghan (29-2-0 17KOs), with both men having one eye on the headliner Dmitry Bivol, who defends his WBA World Light-Heavyweight title against Joe Smith Jr. A fight with the winner of that bout could be on the cards for the victor in the Johnson-Monaghan clash, but the Commonwealth Games gold medal man knows that defeat could be the end of the road at the top level for the loser. “It’s a great opportunity to be straight back out in America and I think that there’s a good chance that if I win this fight, I’ll get another World title shot,” said Johnson.
