  • How to Select a Suitable Tool for a Software Development Project
HowtoSelect aSuitable Tool foraSoftwareDevelopment Project: Three Case Studies and the Lessons Learned Mark Kibanov, Dominik J. Erdmann, Martin Atzmueller Knowledge and Data Engineering Group, University of Kassel, Germany {kibanov, erdmann, atzmueller}@cs.uni-kassel.de Abstract: This paper describes aframework for evaluating and selecting suitable soft- ware tools for asoftware project, which is easily extendable depending on needs of the project. Foranevaluation, we applied the presented framework in three different projects. These projects use different software development methods (from classical models to Scrum) in different environments (industry and academia). We discuss our experiences and the lessons learned. 1Introduction With the growth of the software industry the number of software products (programs, tools, frameworks) with similar functions has also increased. Therefore, the process of selection of the required software has also become more complex. In this paper, weintroduce a general three-step framework for selecting suitable software for the current project and environment. Furthermore, we describe the application of the framework to three different software projects: These use different software development methods and environments. All three case studies showpromising results and indicate the possibility to apply the suggested framework for awide range of different projects. In these contexts, we discuss our experiences and the lessons learned. The rest of the paper is structured as follows: Section 2discusses related work. After that, Section 3presents the framework, its advantages, disadvantages and the three distinct steps of selecting the software tools. Section 4describes three case studies where we applied the framework and the results we obtained during these case studies. 2Related Work Starting in 1980 with [Saa80], Thomas L.

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING Department of Electronics and Informatics Video-based Tracking of Physical Documents on a Desk Graduation thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Applied Sciences and Engineering: Applied Computer Science Sone Nsime Ngole Promoter: Prof. Dr. Beat Signer Advisor: Dr. Bruno Dumas JANUARY 2014 FACULTEIT INGENIEURSWETENSCHAPPEN Vakgroep Elektronica en Informatica Video-based Tracking of Physical Documents on a Desk Afstudeer eindwerk ingediend in gedeeltelijke vervulling van de eisen voor het behalen van de graad Master of Science in de Ingenieurswetenschappen: Toegepaste Computerwetenschappen Sone Nsime Ngole Promoter: Prof. Dr. Beat Signer Advisors: Dr. Bruno Dumas JANUARI 2014 Abstract Currently, physical and digital documents tend to stay in their world, without any direct relationship linking them. How- ever, a lot of physical documents are printed from digital doc- uments and conversely, digital documents can be scanned ver- sions of printed papers. Furthermore, the organization of piles of physical documents on a desk hints at shared semantic fea- tures between a set of documents. This thesis explores an ap- proach to link or re-link physical documents with their digital counterpart. This integration will be done by designing a sys- tem that uses an overhead digital camera to recognize, identify, localize and track paper documents on the physical desk space in real time (or offline by means of a pre-recorded video stream) and automatically matching them against an image database of electronic documents. The system locates each paper docu- ment that is present on the desk and reconstructs a complete configuration of documents on the desk at each instant in time.

Západočeská univerzita v Plzni Fakulta aplikovaných věd Katedra informatiky a výpočetní techniky Diplomová práce Inteligentní vyhledávání dokumentů Plzeň 2017 Jiří Martínek Místo této strany bude zadání práce. Jiří Martínek Abstract This diploma thesis deals with information retrieval in a set of scanned documents in form of raster images. First, the images are converted into the text form using optical character recognition (OCR) methods. Unfortunately, there are errors in conversion, therefore another part of the work deals with error correction. This thesis propose several error correction methods that are combined to achieve the best possible results. Then, the corrected documents are indexed into the full-text Apache Solr database. The resulting application allows to efficiently find the requested document according to a full-text query. Error correction of the OCR output helps to increase the accuracy of full-text search. The accuracy of the system was experimentally verified on the real data.

Part of the shift is in the amount of discussion — there is certainly an increase in media This shift is a strong signal for renewed commitment to the FIRST T coverage. There has also been a shift in the intensity of the vision. In the 17 years since FIRST was founded, nothing has been more conversation — there is clearly a heightened sense of urgency in the essential to our success than personal connection. The clearest example calls for solutions. Both these are positive developments. More is the personal commitment of you, our teams, mentors, teachers, parents, awareness and urgency around the “science problem” are central to sponsors, and volunteers. Software development process improvements - Case QPR Software Plc Lidia Zalevskaya Master’s Thesis Degree Programme in Information Systems Management 2019 Abstract Date: 2019.11.24 Author(s) Lidia Zalevskaya Degree programme Information Systems Management, Master’s Degree Thesis title Number of pages and appendix pages Software development process improvements - 98 + 26 Case QPR Software Plc Initially this study was planned as an effort to improve on a software development process within an existing team using an existing product code and systems. However, the situation changed and a new team (DevApps team) was established and given a new project, which created an opportunity to build a new type of team, product, process, and tools pipeline from scratch utilizing the improvement ideas. An Action Research framework was adopted as the theoretical approach for the study, while the Scrum methodology served as a framework for the development practices. The study began by summarizing previously identified problems in the software development process at QPR Software Plc and formulating improvement ideas focused on the coding workflow and Scrum practices. These were then tested in practice by the new DevApps scrum team. The research analysis centres on the process of choosing and setting up the new team’s development tools, figuring out ways of working, and implementing several iterations to find the best suitable development process. The most valuable empirical outcomes were the creation of a branching strategy and Git workflow for the DevApps team, the team members’ practical experience of working with Git and with the Azure DevOps developer services. A key outcome was the shift in many verification activities to earlier phases.
