“The Latest Covid-19 updates.” Celine Brazeau Ottawa, E.M.C - KZA [email protected] July 7, 2021

Situation in Kitigan Zibi

Active cases: 0 Total cases since Pandemic started: 34 Reported Deaths: 1 Adults vaccinated 1st dose: 57% Adults vaccinated 2nd dose: 47.6% Youth 12-17 1st dose: 12%

More Community members need to be vaccinated. There’s still vaccine hesitancy from some however, the more people vaccinated lower the risk of transmission and less restrictions will apply. Target date for next Vaccination clinic is July 17th (1st & 2nd dose adults). If you’ve received your 1st dose with KZHSS you will automatically be contacted for your appointment to receive 2nd dose. For those you wish to receive a 1st dose please contact the Health Centre at 819.449.5593 ext. 2301 or email [email protected]

Gradual easing of Restrictions

Due to the vaccination rate within the community- Unlike the Province, we will slowly be moving forward with the reopening. Currently, 57% of our adult population is vaccinated with at least 1 dose- so it leaves a lot of people vulnerable to the infection. We can’t become complacent, we need to remain vigilant.

Mask or a face covering in public settings

Wearing a mask or face covering that covers the nose to under the chin is still mandatory until further notice on public transit (buses, the subway, ferries, taxis, car services, airports, etc.) and in enclosed or partially enclosed public places for individuals age 10 and over.

This obligation (with exceptions: medical condition) applies in the following sectors but not limited to;

• a retail business; • Indoor sports facilities, including fitness rooms; • changing rooms and poolside; • a service company; • a professional’s private office; • a place where municipal or government services are offered; • a personal care business (e.g., hairdressers, beauty care) ; • a shopping mall; • a place of worship (procedural mask mandatory); • a procedural mask must be worn in movie theatres and performance venues; • a place where sports or recreational activities are practiced, even for spectators; • a restaurant or bar (except when seated to eat or drink); • an educational institution (with exceptions);

Let’s Get ready to Bumble! A new “Species at Risk” project is starting this summer.

This year at the NRWO, we are taking a look at our bumblebee populations with the hope of finding at least one of the 5 “at risk” species of Bumblebee in North America. -Yellow Banded Bumblebee ( terricola) -American Bumblebee (Bombus pensylvanicus) -Gypsy’s Cuckoo Bumblebee (Bombus bohemicus) -Suckley’s Cuckoo Bumblebee (Bombus Sucleyi) -Rusty Patched Bumblebee (Bombus affinis)

Although not as popular as bees, bumblebees are real champions of pollination. Their rugged and hairy aspect, with their big size, give them all the tools they need to be the first out in the spring, collecting nectar and pollen from the very first flowers of the year, when most if not all the other pollinators are still hibernating. Their very long tongue is specifically well adapted for deep or “trumpet shaped” flower.
