CHAPEL NOTES~ We spent time over the last few days discussing trials, tests and temptations. It was encouraging to hear that while we all face these three “T’s” each day, we have a Creator who walks with us each step of the way.

On Thursday, February 2, we will celebrate an all school Eucharist. This service will be celebrating the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. From the EpiscopalChurch.org website: “It commemorates the presentation of Jesus and the purification of Mary in the Jerusalem Temple forty days after Jesus’ birth, in accordance with the requirements of Jewish law (Lv 12:2-8). The feast is celebrated about forty days after Christmas. According to the account of Lk 2:22-39, the presentation of Jesus was also the occasion of the meeting of Jesus with Simeon and Anna. Celebration of the feast dates from the fourth century in Jerusalem. It was introduced in Rome in the seventh century, where it included a procession with candles. The celebration came to include the lighting and blessing of candles which were carried in procession. This feast was known as “Candlemas.” Peace - Chaplain Paige +

VALENTINE’S ORDER TIME February 14 is “All I Can See is Red Day” at All Saints! Once again, our Eighth grade class will be selling fun items to celebrate. The Eighth grade students will be making special deliveries to students on February 14. Order Forms were distributed via email earlier this week, and one is attached to this newsletter. The firm deadline for ordering items is February 3. Forms may be returned to your homebase teacher or the office. Love and fun are in the air!

LIBRARY NEWS “Birthday books” is an honored All Saints tradition. A donation is made to our library in honor of a student’s birthday by parents or grandparents. An age appropriate book reflecting the child’s interests is selected, and a plate with the child’s name and grade is placed in it. The lucky honoree is the first to check out this book. We received birthday donations for Ellis Key (PK) from her grandparents, Charles and Paula Key. Thank you!

Notices of overdue library books are sent via email. The sender will be [email protected]. Please add this email address to your contacts so you can be notified about books that need to be returned. Thank you! 3 ADVENT PROJECT UPDATE The Eighth grade class collected over $500 in cash and gift cards for the Haven Animal Shelter. They also collected leashes, collars, food, cleaning supplies, and other supplies needed on a daily basis by the Haven. The photo to the right shows Eighth grade Sponsor, Dennis Chance, presenting the Advent donation to a Haven staffmember. A big thank you to the Eighth grade students and par- ents for a successful Advent project.

4 COACHES CORNER BASKETBALL Middle School Congratulations to the Eighth Grade Boys Team on finishing in Second Place at the CTK Eighth Grade Basketball Invitational. They lost their first game Thursday to KPA and came back through the bracket (defeating KPA) to lose a 2-point game in the finals to a very strong Lubbock Christian team. Our boys played a total of six games with four on Saturday alone. Awesome! The Eighth Grade girls also competed in the tournament, as well, finishing in Sixth Place. Last Thursday, all four middle school teams traveled to Plainview Christian where we split with both boys teams winning their games and both girls teams losing close games.

Tomorrow, Thursday, January 26, All Saints Middle School will host Southcrest for our last regular season home middle school basketball games. All of the games will be in Jones Gym. Following is the game schedule:

4:00pm, 7th Grade Girls / 5:00pm, 7th Grade Boys / 6:00pm, 8th Grade Girls / 7:00pm, 8th Grade Boys

High School Both the girls and boys high school basketball teams opened TAPPS 1-2A district play last Friday night at Lubbock Christ the King. The girls had a great win (58-20) to go 1-0 in district. The boys followed up with an 80-21 victory to move to 1-0 in district as well. Both high school teams won district championships last year in TAPPS District 1-1A, and they are off to good starts in 2A this season. Both teams played their second district game last night at Plainview Christian with the girls coming up just short in a well-fought game and the boys in a convincing win. On Friday, January 27 all of the high school teams will be in action in Patriot Gym against TAPPS 3A Abilene Christian. Following is the game schedule:

4:00 JV Boys / 5:30 Varsity Girls / 7:00 Varsity Boys

A big congratulations to All Saints junior guard Luke Stuart who was recognized as the Lonestar Varsity Player of the Week last month. In addition, Luke has been recognized as the FOX 34 News State Farm Athlete of the Week last week. Congratulations, Luke, for representing your team well!

The school has had more students than ever in All Saints history compete and be selected for the TMEA Middle School and High School All-Region Choirs, which includes all Texas mu- sic students from both public and private schools. In the High School division, we had students advance to the Pre-Area round of auditions for the first time (juniors Mallory Staggs, Anna Arnett and Hannah Hays.) We were thrilled to see both Anna and Hannah then progress to the Area level auditions.

Finally, as the ultimate accomplishment, Hannah Hays was selected in the final round of auditions for the Texas Music Educators 2017 All State Choir! Hannah was ranked 2nd in the Soprano section in our entire Area, which is everything west of Dallas-Fort Worth! A further amazing result was Anna Arnett’s 10th place ranking in our Area. What accomplishments for these two singers!

Hannah will perform with the Texas All-State Choir in San Antonio on February 11 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center as part of the 2017 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention. This is Hannah’s first time to perform as a member of a TMEA All-State organization.

All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. Over 68,000 Texas music students begin the audition process and 1,780 students are ultimately selected to perform in the TMEA All State choir, band or orchestra. Only the top 2.6% of musi- cians who initially audition become All- State musicians.

Congratulations to Hannah, her par- ents, and the All Saints community as a whole for this tremendous accom- plishment. We’re making All Saints history!
