N. 190326b Tuesday 26.03.2019 Resignations and Appointments Resignation and appointment of personal ordinary of Our Lady of the Southern Cross, Australia Appointment of apostolic nuncio in Guinea and in Mali Resignation and appointment of personal ordinary of Our Lady of the Southern Cross, Australia The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the personal ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross, presented by Rev. Msgr. Harry Entwistle. The Pope has appointed as personal ordinary of Our Lady of the Southern Cross the Rev. Carl Reid, currently dean of all the parishes of Canada of the personal ordinariate of The Chair of Saint Peter and parish priest of a community of the same ordinariate in British Columbia in Canada. Father Reid, born on 14 December 1950, was baptized on January 14 1951 in the Anglican Church of Canada. He earned a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario in 1973. He earned a Master of Divinity degree from St. Bede’s Online Theological College. In 2006, he was given the title of Doctor of Divinity honoris causa. He was ordained a deacon in the Anglican Catholic Church of Canada in 1988, and a minister in the same jurisdiction on 23 June 1990. He was ordained a suffragan bishop of the same communion on 27 January 2007. After being received into the full communion of the Catholic Church, Father Carl Reid was ordained a priest on 26 January 2013 of the personal ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter (USA). Appointment of apostolic nuncio in Guinea and in Mali 2 The Pope has appointed as apostolic nuncio in Guinea and Mali the Rev. Msgr. Tymon Tytus Chmielecki, nunciature counsellor, at the same time elevating him to the titular see of Tre Taverne, with archiepiscopal dignity. The nuncio-elect was born in Toruń, Poland in 1965, and was ordained a priest in 1991. He holds a licentiate in Utroque Iure and in humanistic sciences. He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1995 and served in the papal representations in Georgia, Senegal, Austria, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Brazil and in the Section for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State..

FROM OUR ORDINARY: Monsignor Harry Entwistle. A CAUTIONARY TALE There was once a mountain that belonged to the Church. It was called Mount Docprac because it reminded members of the Catholic Church that the unity between what the Church believed (doctrine) and how that doctrine was lived (practiced) should be as strong as the mountain itself. Over the centuries, Catholics climbed the mountain, doing their best to live faithfully to the teachings of Jesus who gave the mountain to the Church. A few struggled hard and despite many setbacks, they persevered and reached the summit. Others did their best and made some progress and when they failed they started again. The guardians of the mountain, the Pope and the bishops had to be expert climbers because they had to show the way to each new generation of Catholics and find different paths to enable them to succeed. Above all, they had to encourage perseverance, especially in difficult weather conditions. Climbing this mountain was never easy, and when some Catholics lost their tenacity they became frustrated with it. They were influenced by the views of Protestant Christians who no longer had their own mountain because they preferred to live what they thought was an easier life on the flat earth with those who chose for themselves what to believe and how to behave.

In some ways it seems even longer than just that; however, we should be prepared for a much longer “new normal” with perhaps even stricter levels of isolation and/or Inside This Issue confinement that may persist for months. The novelty for my wife and I, of the varied sounds of the sub-tropical birds, so much louder than the temperate zone birds of Canada, tell us that, while we humans effectively are holding our breath, the buzz of life otherwise continues.

Ephesians 5:31-32 Marriage is a Mystery: from the Greek μυστη ριον muste rion, which in Latin translates as sacramentum, from which we get the English word Sacrament. Among the chiefest sacraments of the Church, one worthy to be most highly honoured and esteemed is Holy Matrimony; in which is offered to the world a glimpse of Christ’s love for His Church—selfless/sacrificial love—and, accordingly, an even more mysterious glimpse of the inner life of the Holy and Blessed TRINITY: GOD who is Love. The sacraments are all gifts, which our Lord has given His Church as a means of His grace; each involving an outward and visible sign, or signs, which we offer and participate in in faith, while trusting God to supply inward, spiritual grace according to His promise, in order to enable us to live more fully the life for which He has made us.

The Unity of the Liturgy in the Diversity of Its Rites and Forms Hans-Jürgen Feulner The internationally known German liturgist Balthasar Fischer († 2001) was rather far-sighted and somewhat euphoric, when, already in 1981, in connection with article 4 of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium, he mentioned the ecumenical dimension of the liturgy: Nowhere does reunification any longer mean—and also not in the West—the adoption of the Roman liturgy and of specifically Catholic piety. Today one can very well imagine how the magnificent liturgy celebrated by our Anglican brothers, with some minute changes, could become a ritus legitime agnitus [lawfully acknowledged rite]; an English liturgical family among the liturgical families of the Catholic Church. With all the spiritual riches that have been amassed here in 400 years, she would join her wagon to the train of Catholic liturgies.1 On June 15, 2012, a decree of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) created the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross2—the third Personal Ordinariate to date. That's easy to do on Palm Sunday as He rides into town and adoring crowds praise Him: Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord! It's wonderful to be there, to enjoy the praise and the uplifting worship! Here is our Beloved, the Church's Bridegroom, and we delight in Him! If we close our eyes we're carried on the chorus, "HOSANNA!", as though the joy would never end. It's easy to pledge our faithfulness to Him. Yet, the joyous crescendos die away, the sky darkens, the air grows chill, and suddenly a new cry rings out, harsh and dissonant: "Away with Him! Crucify Him!" Our eyes snap open and we stare horrified. Where is the Bridegroom?
