Well the season has come to an end. I have enjoyed (although disappointed I couldn't play) the opportunity to get around the sides this season, catch up with you all and to see cricket being played in the true spirit by all the sides. The development of many of the sides, mainly the Prems and both 2nd grades puts the club in good stead heading into next season. Looking ahead for the future, the experience the I would like to thank the captains for all their young players will have been invaluable, with support over the season which has made my job a Mitch Gardener an outstanding prospect, who has lot easier and would like to thank Graham, Kevin really shown the great potential he obviously has. and the committee for their hard work over the With both Dylan and Braden away in England for season. the winter learning their game and some good signings throughout the winter we should be able I wish you all the best for the winter and look to compete to a higher standard and push forward to seeing you all back for an exciting ourselves up the table next year and we must look forward to bringing some silverware to the season in October. fantastic new changing rooms.

Suddenly Sydenham committee member Jack Auty and Geordie Dann thought that a hypnotist fundraiser would be a good money spinner for the club. We got organising with the Woolston Club because they had lent us a roller for the year so we got some cash through their bar on the night to pay them back

Brian Gee hosted a good night where people did many things on stage that were not to be expected. Sunjay Ganda was the crowd favourite and managed to not offend his partner in the crowd. It was an entertaining night and we made some good coin for the clubs coffers. A big thank you to the teams that gave full attendance, Brian Gee, the committee and Jack Auty for doing the majority of the organising while I was on my honeymoon in Mexico. Thank you to Global Homes for sponsoring the new whites for 2B Suddenly Sydenham. A grand opening

It was a long time in the making but finally the renovated pavilion was completed and officially opened on a beautiful summer's day on 24th Feb. The journey began about 5 years ago under Mike Pearcy's presidency when the Sydenham Pavilion Complex (SPC) was formed between the Sydenham cricket and hockey clubs to undertake the project. The main players on the SPC that drove the project were initially Mike Pearcy and Kevin Moore from cricket, but more lately Graham Harris, David Heard, and Dave Gallop from Cricket, and Denis Cox and Steve Smith from Hockey.

The project had a number of iterations in design from some very grand initial ones with upstairs lounges and offices, and eventually back to the current version on the existing footprint enhanced as best as funds would allow. There were many frustrations in the project with many a result of the earthquakes that required a lot of additional building and ground reports, and due to the difficulty in obtaining specialist services to complete the work

The official opening saw over 100 past and present members of both clubs attend with the opening speeches delivered by CCA CEO , and Canterbury Hockey CEO Rod Funding for such a large project that cost over Templeton. $300,000 was always our major challenge and in that regard we are hugely appreciative of the assistance provided by both our major funders and the smaller private donors who we would like to acknowledge below:  New Zealand Community Trust  Canterbury Community Trust  Southern Trust  Christchurch City Council – Mayoral Fund

There we were numerous small private donors

Sydenham goes fully electronic – a Scorers box: New Zealand first

In early March, just after the pavilion renovation opening, the Club went fully online with its scoring, both on the web through CricHQ.com, on the park through the electronic scoreboard, and within the pavilion through TVs displaying the live score in both the lounge and batsman's viewing area – everything being driven from the scoring done on the CricHQ system on our iPad. Batsmen's viewing area: The event was a NZ first and the accumulation of work initiated by the Club to get the score board manufacturers Pronto, and the electronic scoring system CricHQ, to work together to connect their software so that one device will talk to the other. We augmented that with the purchase of two Apple TV boxes that also transmit the score summary live to the two internal TVs.

The upgrade also necessitated some additional IT skills within the Club, and Jordan Gant, a young man from Cashmere High and a SWYC cricketer, Lounge has now joined Stu Burns in the scorers box to handle the electronic scoring and to make sure that all systems are go each week.

All the Premiers matches are now available for live viewing by members wherever they are in the country via the CricHQ website – we will endeavour to email the game weblink to the email database when a new game starts each week/fortnight but it is always available by going to the CricHQ website and search the live matches segment.
