The Pennsylvania Historical Association, in cooperation with local and re- gional historical societies and agencies, seeks to advance the study of Pennsylvania's heritage. It is the only statewide historical society now active in the Common- wealth. By its publication of the quarterly journal PennsylvaniaHistory, a series of pamphlets known as The Pennsylvania History Studies, and its annual meetings held successively in different parts of the state, the association stimulates scholarly activity and arouses popular interest in the state's history. The association's invitation is a broad one. It appeals to all those in Pennsyl- vania who are interested in history, regardless of whether history is for them an avocation or a vocation. It invites to membership educators at all levels, authors and editors of historical studies, administrators for the study of history, archivists, historic site supervisors, historic preservationists, and those in other professions that promote the study of history. The association welcomes both traditional and non-traditional practitioners and students of history. Please join today!

The editor is sorry to note that the PHA's Business Secretary, Leroy "Skip" Toddes is retiring later this spring. Skip was always easy to work with, extremely conscientious, and did Herculean service in distributing our journals and pamphlets and keeping track of about half our affairs. (Treasurer Robert Blackson, a financial wizard, handles the other half) Fortunately, Professor John Frantz of Penn State has agreed to serve as Business Secretary, which will consolidate the PHAs business and editori- al offices in the History Department at Penn State.
