String Puppetry Workshop at DakshinaChitra DakshinaChitra is organising a String Puppetry workshop in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi and Tamilnadu Tourism from 14th- 17th March 2013. The workshop looks to create an interactive session for traditional string puppeteers from Tamilnadu where the artists can work with each other in their unique styles. The workshop aims at encouraging the remaining few artists who are carrying forward this tradition which is slowly disappearing in the State of Tamilnadu, and to explore newer avenues and reach out to larger audiences. Master puppeteer Shri. Bhaskar Kogga Kamath will be the resource person for this workshop. He is Master Puppeteer - Uppinkudru Shri Devanna Padmanabha Kamath Memorial Yakshagana Gombeyata Trust, Karnataka Shri.Kamath will conduct interactive sessions with the artists on the Yakshagana puppetry tradition and will share the techniques and ideas to promote the art form and make them popular among the younger generation. First Rush - Theatre Workshop First Rush is an Evam initiative to give everyone a chance to get on stage and experience the magic of Live performance.

The format of First Rush is a simultaneous Actor's workshop plus a production creation process. Anyone who signs up for this ninety-hour program goes through an introductory acting workshop, after which they will be involved in the process of creating a production from scratch.

Through the course of the rehearsals they are also given basic specialized training in voice, movement, character building and also theatre lighting and sound. The batch, which ideally consists of 15 to 30 people, is encouraged to get involved in all aspects of theatre. Apart from acting, under the leadership of an external director, they also design costumes, sets, settings, properties and even market the show and are in charge of selling tickets.

The graduates are given video and photos of their play and a course completion certificate, one on one feedback to the individuals at the end of their performance. On 16th & 17th Mar, 2013 at 9.00
