MOVING UP THE FRANCHISE LISTS With two goals on Oct. 29 in Arizona, Matt Duchene passed Paul Stastny (160) for ninth place on the franchise's all-time goals list with 161. He now has 162 career goals, four shy of Valeri Kamensky (166) for eighth place and five shy of Alex Tanguay (167) for seventh. With 27 career game-winning goals, Duchene is one behind Tanguay (28) for seventh in that category. Duchene appeared in his 500th NHL game on Oct. 22 at Florida. He became the 20th player in franchise history to appear in 500 games and the 10th in Avalanche history (since 1995-96). Duchene is the fourth player drafted by Colorado to play 500 games in an Avs sweater, joining Stastny, Tanguay and John-Michael Liles.

AVS GET BUSY AFTER LIGHT OCTOBER The Avalanche's November schedule features 14 games, nine at home. Colorado played only seven games last month, its fewest ever in the month of October. The previous low was nine games in October of 1979, 1998 and 2003. It tied Columbus for the fewest games in the NHL during the opening month. The Avalanche had only two home games in October.

DAYTIME HOCKEY Colorado is 1-1-0 in afternoon games this season, beating Minnesota 1-0 on Nov. 5 at Pepsi Center and falling to the Blues 5-1 on Nov. 6 in St. Louis. The Avs will play a total of six daytime contests this season, three at home.

JOE GOAL-BORNE Joe Colborne recorded his first career hat trick in the Avalanche's 6-5 season-opening victory over the Dallas Stars on Oct. 15. A look at Colborne's accomplishment: • Became the second player in Avalanche history to score a hat trick on Opening Night, joining Paul Stastny, who tallied three goals in the 2007-08 opener vs. Dallas (Oct. 3, 2007). Colborne was the fifth player in franchise history to score a hat trick on Opening Night. • Was the first Avalanche player to record a hat trick in his debut with the team. Was the second player in franchise history to have a hat trick in his first game with the club, as Real Cloutier scored three times in the Quebec Nordiques' inaugural game on Oct. 10, 1979 against the Atlanta Flames. • Was the first Avs player to score two goals in the first period of season opener since Joe Sakic on Oct 10, 1998 vs Ottawa.

HERE’S TO THE NEW BOSS Jared Bednar was hired on Aug. 25, 2016, becoming the seventh head coach in Avalanche history and the 15th in franchise history. Bednar, 44, guided the ’ AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters, to the 2016 Calder Cup last season. The 2016- 17 campaign marks Bednar’s 15th season in professional coaching and his seventh as a head coach. He posted a 251-158-42 (.603) combined record in his four years as an AHL head coach and two years as ECHL head coach. He guided the South Carolina Stingrays to the 2009 Kelly Cup as ECHL champions.

IRONMEN Carl Soderberg owns the longest active ironman streak on the team at 180 consecutive games, a career high. Jarome Iginla ranks second at 175 straight games. Iginla has dressed in all 82 games in each of his two years with the Avalanche and in 11 seasons overall, the most 82-game campaigns in NHL history.

STRONG IN SHOOTOUTS The Avalanche finished 4-0 in shootouts last season, the league’s only unbeaten team. The Avs, who led all clubs with 10 shootout wins the previous season (10-4 in 2014-15), have won nine consecutive shootouts, one shy of the franchise record set March 19, 2011 to Jan. 2, 2012. The Avs are 41-13 in their last 54. Semyon Varlamov is 27-14 in career shootouts with a .752 save percentage. His .752 Sv% is tied for the highest all-time (min 100 att), matching Mathieu Garon and Johan Hedberg. He is 23-8 as a member of the Avalanche, stopping .771 (96/22).
