Racker, Christian ● Member of the first Lehi Brass Band in 1871. Racker, Frederick Eugene ● Born in Lehi in 1877 ● At age twelve became an apprentice with the Lehi Publishing Company in 1889 ● At age fourteen became a Clerk and teamster at the People's Cooperative- 1891-1897 ● Volunteered to serve in the Spanish American War-Went to the Philippines. ● Infected with a serious case of dysentery. Almost died. Returned to a hospital in San Francisco, ● Returned and went to work as a miner. ● Rejoined the Army and served throughout the United States ● Served as a School Teacher in the army. ● Died of Dysentery in 1905 Racker, Jacob E. ● Took over the east businesses at the retirement of his father William Racker in 1922. ● It stayed Racker Mercantile with his initials in front. ● The store went out of business in 1925 Racker, Leonard D. ● Took over the west businesses at the retirement of his father William Racker in 1922. ● Established the Winchester Store. ● It went out of business in 1925 Racker, William E. ● Lehi City Treasurer 1879-87 ● Lehi’s 20th Mayor 1911-1913 ● Came to live in Lehi in 1868. ● Clerk at the local Tithing Office for seven years ● Worked for the People’s Co-op serving as bookkeeper, ten years as Secretary-Treasurer and Superintendent. Leadership brought the People’s for successful financial period. ● Retired from the People’s Co-op to serve a mission to Denmark. ● Negotiated a buyout of the Peoples Cooperative store on Main Street. The Racker Mercantile Company opens for business. 1905 ● Built an addition to his store on the east portion. 1912 ● In 1922 he turned over the business to his sons in 1922. ● Developed a three section business area on the north side of Main Street called Racker Block. ● One of the primary proponents of the Lehi Commercial and Savings Bank and Director in 1891. ● Businessmen Thomas R. Cutler, Ira D. Wines, and William J. Racker built and established the Union Hotel in 1891. Wines bought them out in 1908. ● Director and Chairman of the State Bank of Lehi ● President and Director of the Utah County Power and Light Company Radmall, Gregory J. ● Bishop Lehi Thirteenth Ward 1986- Rappleye, Tunis ● Born February 2, 1807 in Ovid, Seneca County, New York. ● Tunis Rappleye came to Utah on July 24, 1847. He was a member of the original company under , which arrived in Salt Lake Valley on that Day. Luke S. Johnson was the Captain of his company, and Tunis drove one of the teams belonging to President Young. ● Tunis made several “missions” back and forth, escorting bands of Saints ● In August 1847, Tunis, in the company of Shadrach Roundy, returned to Council Bluffs, to accompany another group of immigrants to the Valley. ● His wife had remained at Council Bluffs, with her little brood of children, and continued to live there until 1853, while Tunis made several “missions” back and forth, escorting bands of Saints. She gave birth to three children while at Council Bluffs, and after coming to Lehi, Utah, died giving birth to another son. ● Built a home on the east side of the Old Lehi Fort in 1854. First to have his home and wall built to eight feet. ● Built a home on the south side of the Old Lehi Fort in 1854. ● The family was living in Lehi at this time, 1854, and Tunis remained there with his children until approximately 1870, ● Tunis served a mission to the Eastern states after settling in Lehi. ● He was a farmer by vocation. ● He fought in the Indian wars, and was a typical Yankee; shrewd, and witty. ● In 1870 he moved to Sanpete County and died and buried in Kanosh, Millard County. Rasmussen, Wesley ● Lehi City council Member 1988-92 Ray, Max ● Lehi City Fire Chief 1978-81 Raymond, Alonzo Pearls ● Lehi Resident who served in the Mormon Battalion 1846-47 Ream, Marian ● In April 1977 purchased the Webb Jewelry building at 72 West Main and the Powers building at 68 West Main. ● She Opened a Reams Wrangler in Lehi. Revill, Johnny ● Lehi City Council member 2009-2016 ● Emcee, Miss Utah and Miss Lehi Pageants ● Sings in the group Johnny and the Rebels Rhodes, Alonzo Donnell ● Born the 2 September 1824 in Fowler Ohio ● Alonzo initially traveled to the Salt Lake Valley in the Easton Kelsey Company in 1851. Came to Lehi in 1851. ● Met Sarah Ann Bushman in the pioneer company and later married her. She was the daughter of Martin Bushman who also came to Lehi. ● Built a home on the south side of the Old Lehi Fort in 1854. ● One of the three fiddlers who led the first parade of Lehi on the 24th of July 1854. ● His group also played that night in the Log Schoolhouse for a dance. The string trio played cotillion, jig, and quadrille music for dancing. ● Lehi City Marshal 1854-1858 and 1869-1871 ● Territory Legislature gives Alonzo Rhodes, Charles Hopkins, Ezekiel Hopkins permission to build the bridge over the Jordan River January 21, 1853 ● He sold stock in the Jordan River Bridge to pay for the cost of the bridge. Each stock cost twenty five cents. ● Sent by Brigham Young to help ill fated Handcart companies in November 1856. Gave much service to the helping of these companies making many trips. ● Family settled in Lehi in 1851 ● Member of the Lehi Militia Group that fought in the Tintic War 1856 ● Died in Lehi on the 8 July 1893. Rhodes, Lucile ● Founding member of the Lehi Auctus Club in 1939. Richins, Jay E. ● Lehi First Ward Bishop Ricks, George Alexander ● Bishop Ricks, the sixth of twelve children, was born March 23, 1905, to Joseph Alexander Ricks and Alice Nutt, while they resided in Benson, Cache County, Utah. ● After completing his early education at Benson, he attended Logan. ● He married Myrel Bennett in June 1925. ● George Alexander Ricks made Lehi his residence on February of 1829, while working for Utah Copper at Bingham. ● Bishop Ricks spent twenty-one years in the company of Utah Copper. ● Since then has farmed in northwestern Lehi. ● He served as President of the Third Quorum of Elders until 1942, ● Lehi City Marshal 1947; 1952-57 ● Lehi Third Ward Bishop 1942-1949 ● Served a mission to Mexico. ● Author ● He died on 13 June 1991. Ricks, Howard ● Lehi City Council Member 1940-43 Richards, Guy S. ● American Fork Doctor who used the Lehi Hospital extensively. Rigby, William B. ● Supervised the Adobe Pit and the adobe brick production for the Lehi Meeting House with William W. Taylor and Abel Evans 1855-60. Rippy, Hester ● Founder of the Lehi Rippy Literacy Center ● Grand Marshal Lehi Roundup 2010 Roberts, John T. Jr. ● Born in 1847 ● Came to Lehi in 1863 ● Veteran of the Black Hawk War 1865-67 ● Freighted by Team in Nevada after the war. ● Lehi City Council Member for two terms 1894-97 ● Lehi City Treasurer for six terms 1888-1892. 1900-1903 ● 17th Lehi City Mayor 1904-05 ● Came to Lehi in November 1863. ● Worked at the People’s Co-op and was manager of the Branch on Main Street for fourteen years. ● Served on the Lehi School Board for six years. `Served as Chairman ● President of the 68th Quorum of the Seventy. ● Died in Lehi in 1931 Roberts, Joseph ● Lehi City Marshal 1888-1890 Robinson, George G. ● Born in 1869 ● Moved to American Fork. ● Worked for Chipman's in American Fork running their mill. ● Moved to Lehi in 1910. He purchased the Graff home at 118 East Main Street. ● Member of the Lehi City Council 1911-1917; 1922-27 ● Purchased the recently built Lehi Roller Mill and Elevator company for approximately $10,000. He also purchased the Garff residence located near the mill. May 10. 1920 ● Sold the Graff home to Alva H. and Udene Wing in 1924. ● Ran the Mill until his death in 1936. The management of the Mill was turned over to his sons. Robinson, Howard W. ● Lehi City Councilmember 1958-1965. Robinson, Joseph ● Member of the Second company of Lehi Militia who were called to Echo Canyon during the Utah War. Robinson, Josephine ● Founding member of the Lehi Auctus Club in 1939 Robinson, Sherm ● Took over the management of the Lehi Roller MIlls in 1980. He was the grandson of George G. Robinson. Rockhill, Lucy ● Charter Member of the Athenian Club in 1909. Rockhill, Nate ● Purchased the Comer Building at 116 West Main in 1906 ● Owned the Hoosier Hotel at 116 West Main ● Renamed it the Glee Club Saloon when it moved to 125 West Main. ● Rockhill was arrested for selling alcohol on Sunday. ● He also was arrested for selling alcohol to minors. ● In 1898 the Lehi Prohibition put him out of business. and he closed the saloons. ● He moved to Sevier County.in 1898 ● Owner and operator of the Log Cabin Saloon and Pool and Billiard Parlor. in 1903-1919. Rockwell, Christina Olsen ● Christina was born in 1837 in Norway ● Third Wife of ● Mother of (Olivia)Irene, Elizabeth Christina, Stephen and Ida May Rockwell. ● Took Porter to Salt Lake to get rid of the alcohol until his death. ● She was a member of the Scandinavian Society. ● Christina took on the role to take care of the Scandinavian sisters of the ward. ● Lived in Lehi after Porter’s Death ● She died on Apr. 14, 1911 in Salt Lake City. Rockwell, John ● Teacher of History in Granite School District ● Long time member and chairman of the Lehi Historical Preservation Commission and preserver of Lehi History. ● Great Grandson of Porter Rockwell and a scholar and a historian of Porter Rockwell. He wrote a book on the stories of Porter Rockwell. ● Portrays Rockwell as a one man show and travels far and wide presenting Porter’s story. Rodeback, Addie Winn ● First Lehi Public Librarian 1910-11 Rogers, Samuel ● Family settled in Lehi in 1851 Rolfe, Jasper ● Veteran of the Black Hawk War 1865-67 Ross, Alice ● Charter Member of the Athenian Club in 1909. Ross, Amanda Melissa Norton ● Amanda Melissa Norton Ross was born at Winter Quarters Iowa on the 19 April 1847. ● Her family was involved in the Haun's Mill Massacre with family members killed. ● Her family lived in a home where the George Ingram home is, just inside the Fort Wall when they came to Lehi. ● She remembered a large gate in the fort wall where the children enjoyed swinging on a swing hanging from the brace over the gate. This is one of the fort gates made by her father. ● They were afraid and used to run in the house when they would see the Johnson army coming through from Camp Floyd. ● On July 1, 1865 she married John Edgar Ross in the old Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah. ● Her husband, my father, was a pioneer school teacher. He taught when the tuition was paid in produce so, it took great skill to provide for their family of twelve. ● Soon after their marriage, father built a small, one room dugout, part underground and part on the ground. They lived there their first year. ● Then four rooms, two and two up were built a little farther north. This was on 3rd North and 1st West. This home when built, was the further east, away from the Fort.The fear of the Indians were experienced by Mother. The Indians later became good friends of Mother. ● She being a good seamstress and taylor, found plenty to do making coats and trousers for the people of town. ● As a nurse she was dearly loved and respected among her neighbors. It was never too cold or dark, nor was she ever too busy to help a neighbor in sickness. She went into homes where there were contagious diseases, having faith that the Lord would protect her and her own little family, though being very cautious not to take the diseases home. ● She used herbs extensively as medicine and they proved very successful. A few of the herbs I remember she used were catnip and fennel for colic, horehound for coughs and colds and for a delicacy she made horehound and honey candy. Dandelions for yellow juridic and liver trouble. Yarrow and kinnikinick for blood purifier - Sage brush for a spring tonic. Honey and onion syrup for cough. She burned green copperas, lump alum and sulphur on a stove lid for diphtheria, boiling peach leaves, sage, alum, honey and golden seal for canker. A cure-all salve of lard and raisin.

Then there was the foot bath, and steaming bricks or rocks to make us sweat. She made a liniment of vinegar turpentine and egg - Saffron tea for bringing out measles. Then the bags of aseffa we had to wear to guard against disease of any kind. But with faith in God the herbs gave relief for many aches and pains and saved much suffering. ● She carded, spun, and wove wool. ● When the project of raising silkworms for silk was begun she entered into that. She planted mulberry trees and produced 26 pounds of cocoons for silk. That project proved quite unsuccessful in Lehi, but her project was successful.. ● In charge of activities, banquets and socials of the Ross School. Anniversary parties were held each year. They would distribute prizes to the students who succeeded. Co-Chairman was Mary Ann Webb. ● She would supervise popular banquets in Lehi. Pies, cakes and English pudding were made by Amanda. She made these for the students also. Banquets required people to bring their own chairs. ● Purchased the property which became the Ross Block of Lehi Main Street with her son William in Fall of 1900. The buildings were completed in the Christmas season of 1901. Ross and Ross went out of business after three months, ● She died 17 February 1920 and was buried in the Lehi Cemetery. Ross, John Edgar ● Was born in Newark, New Jersey, January 13, 1840. ● Settled Lehi in 1853 ● Married Amanda Norton on July 1, 1865, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Norton, who were also among the first settlers of Lehi Utah. ● Veteran of the Black Hawk War 1865-67 ● Part of a Brigham Young called Lehi team to go to Winter Quarters and bring LDS converts to Utah 1861-66 ● Did more for Lehi Education than any other man ● Taught school for 29 years. ● His pay in the earlier days consisted of various kinds of produce. ● Taught at the Ross School-school is still existing today. The school was named after him when he retired. ● Retired in 1897. ● Named a School Trustee in 1897 ● Whipped students. Believed that a student would not succeed until he had produced blood. ● Lehi City Councilor 1875. ● Lehi City Alderman 1876; 1883-86 ● Lehi City Recorder 1879-84; 1887-92. 1896-97 1900 ● He also has been a religious worker, serving 25 years in the Sunday Schools. ● He was a teamster in his youth. In 1861 he drove four yoke of cattle across the plains, back to Florence for immigrants, and in 1864 he drove a six-mule team to Los Angeles for freight for John R. Murdock. ● He passed from this earth on January 5, 1919. His funeral was at the Lehi Tabernacle. Kimball Company. ● Henry was a farmery by trade. ● Proficient at making adobes. ● Built the first meeting house in Salt Lake ● First Explorer of Lehi with . in early 1850 ● Settled for 3 days with the David Clark family at Stinkweed Springs on Dry Creek, one mile east of Sulphur Springs. ● Moved to Sulphur Springs to the group after three days camping. ● Came to Sulphur Springs to settle in 1850. Russon, Merlin ● Lehi Fourteenth Ward Bishop 1984-1988 Russon, Sadie ● Original Lehi Hospital Board Member 1940 Russon, Stanford D. ● Lehi Fourth Ward Bishop 1977-1983 Sabey, Arthur ● Born in Lehi 03 April 1917. ● Veteran of World War I ● He married Mary Odessa Zimmerman on the 24 January 1938. ● Most of his working career was as Sergeant of the Guards at the Geneva Steel US steel. ● He officiated at Football, Basketball and Baseball games. ● He even refed at a Harlem Globetrotter Game in Salt Lake. ● He served as the Publicity Chairman for the Lehi Roundup for many years. ● Director Lehi Civic Improvement Association 1971 ● Grand Marshal Lehi Roundup 1979 ● He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, comedy, literature, and being involved in humanitarian activities. ● Arthur and his wife traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. ● Art's greatest passion in life was his children and grandchildren. They were paramount to him. ● Lehi City Councilmember 1960-1965 ● Arthur (Art) Sabey, 78, died Nov. 5, 1995 at his home of a heart attack. Sabey, Odessa ● Grand Marshal Lehi Roundup 1979 Salzner, Franz ● In 1887 was a charter member of the Lehi Silver Band. Sampson, Garry Ray ● Born in Delta in 1941 ● Garry was quite the character growing up in Delta. He, his siblings and friends would play hard, fish a lot and lived the life of Tom and Huck. ● Garry moved to Lehi in 1955 in his 9th grade year and attended school in Lehi through graduation. ● After high school Garry served a full-time service mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Gulf States Mission. ● After returning from his mission with honor, Garry began dating the love of his life, Kay Stewart. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple and sealed for all time and eternity. ● Trained as a Barber ● He was an accomplished Barber and taught at Salt Lake Barber School. Garry cut hair for a few of his favorite clients until just a few years ago.. Garry has literally changed the lives of many for the better. ● Worked at Glen’s Barber Shop from 1969-1970. ● Was very involved in Drama in Lehi and performed in numerous plays and melodramas that were directed by Sarah Price and included many prominent people of Lehi in the performances, ● He wrote and performed in many Roadshows. ● Performed in the Cinderella Ballet for Utah Regional Ballet’s performance as the wicked stepsisters. This was a humorous portrayal of the famous sisters. ● Garry performed in Barbershop Quartets and musical groups throughout the community. He was a strong supporter of the arts. ● Fought as mayor for the continuation of CRSP for Lehi City. ● Worked for Intermountain Consumer Power Association. ● 40th Mayor Of Lehi 1982-83. He was chosen Mayor at the resignation of Mayor Bud Ellison. ● Led the City through the Great Floods of 1983. His leadership really led the community through a hard few months and days. ● Lehi City Councilmember 1980-84 ● Member of the Lehi Stake Presidency until 2014. ● Lehi City Judge 2004-2011.He was a very respected judge by his peers and was the Judge for Lehi City and retired from that position. Garry has been honored on several occasions for his diligent work, while sitting on the bench. ● He received many scouting awards and raised many many varsity scouts into men. ● Grand Marshal Lehi Roundup 1983 ● He crocheted many beautiful afghans ● He was a craftsman in his wood shop and enjoyed working in his yard. He built his and Kaye’s caskets. ● At the time of his death, he was going to join the Board of the Lehi Historical Society and Archives and made large donations of historical documents he found working in the Stake Presidency. ● He was a great friend and people who called him their personal close friends were many. He never betrayed a true friendship. ● Garry and Kay served a mission to Rapid City, South Dakota 2014 - 2015, before having to come home for this dreaded disease. ● Died from Cancer in 12 November, 2015. Sampson, Kaye Stewart ● Kaye was born and grew up in Lehi ● She went to Lehi Schools ● Devoted wife and mother ● Plays the piano ● She was actively involved in young women and primary ● Great Gardner...Loved to share her produce with her neighbor and friends. ● She has been a large supporter of the Lehi Marching band. ● She was a great seamstress and made her family’s clothes. ● She was a great quilter and other sewing arts. ● She served on the Lehi Roundup Committee. ● She made many floats for the Lehi Parade ● She served as an officer for the Lehi Booster Club ● Grand Marshal Lehi Roundup 1983 ● Garry and Kay served a mission to Rapid City, South Dakota 2014 - 2015, before having to come home for this dreaded disease. ● Took care of her husband until in death in 2015. Kirkham, M. T Woodhouse, and James Harwood. They formed Lehi Creamery and Manufacturing. It was at 700 East State. It was made to receive 2,500 gallons of milk an hour and form 250 pounds of butter per hour. After a few years, they sold the business. It never met the projected output. ● He was a strong supporter of education and his son George Sidney was the first person to graduate from the University of Utah. ● He died on July 6, 1917 in Idaho and was buried in Lehi. Shaw, Mary Dixon ● She was born in England on August 25, 1848. ● Married Hugh Shaw in England on 28th of August, 1876. ● Shaw, Hugh ● He was born in England on August 25, 1848. ● Married Mary Dixon in England on 28th of August, 1876. ● Worked as a weaver in a large woolen mill, where beautiful white woolen blankets were woven. He worked in this mill for over forty years. ● Was baptized a member of the LDS Faith by Elder Joseph S. Broadbent from Lehi. ● They sold all of their furniture except their sewing machine, a copper tea kettle, and the bread tins. These were packed and shipped to Lehi, Utah. ● Went by train from Boston to Utah arriving in Lehi. The Joseph Broadbent family and their son Mark was waiting for them. ● They bought a red brick house, called Rose Cottage, and some furniture. The home was in the Fourth ward area on Wall Street. ● He went to work for the Sugar Factory at 10 hours a day at $1.50 per day. ● Purchased a seven acre farm and raised potatoes. He bought a horse and wagon. The horse was very wild and threw him and destroyed the wagon. He sold potatoes for 25 cents a bushel. ● Had to sell his farm at a loss because eczema sores on his skin and made it almost impossible to work. No medication could ease the sores and pain. ● As weaving was his trade, he purchased a second-hand carpet loom. People soon began to bring their rags and warp for him to weave into rugs. With his good wife, the warp was put on the loom, and after school, Bertha and Arthur would help wind the rags on spools, then insert them into the shuttle. Grandfather would pull that loom back and forth all day, for twelve and a half cents a yard, but was very happy with his work. ● His favorite thing to do was to go to dances and social events held at the Lehi Pavilion. ● Grandfather took very ill with influenza, and after surgery died the 21st of December 1928 at the Lehi Hospital, at the age of eighty years.

Smith, Stanley ● Lehi Sixth Ward Bishop 1986- ● Lehi Utah Stake President(-2014) Smith, Thomas Candyman ● He was born in Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire, England on 29 Feb 1844 ● After converting to Mormonism, he came to Utah to prepare for his family in 1878. ● He purchased land and his mother already lived here. He brought trunks of clothes and left them with his mother. ● During his absence his mother died and he didn’t return until 1884. ● When he came back, he found his property was sold and saw people with his clothes on. ● John Woodhouse family took him in until he could get other property. ● Thomas Smith held grudges against the LDS Church and held the leaders responsible for his loss. ● He opened a confectionery at 154 West Main. The business did not do well because of this renouncing membership in the LDS Church. ● Leaders asked him to reconsider his membership or they would avoid buying his wares. ● He moved his production to his home and built the confectionery shop that is still at 411 West 100 South. ● All around the room were brick ovens. ● Huge hooks were on the walls where he made his taffy. ● He became known as Candy Tom and with his horse Charley and a buggy would load it up with the candy and go to St. John, Faust, Vernon, Cloves, Ajax and Loaded Pass. He would be seen going from town to town selling his wares. ● The boycott of his wares were soon forgotten and children of the day remember the all-day suckers, taffy and the Lucky Streak. ● Lucky Streaks were candy and if the taffy had a streak, the child would get another nickel and could buy another candy with it. ● He died in Lehi on 12 March 1911. There were no fires, nothing pleasant about it, only discharge of duty. They were happy to do their temple work. ● On September 3, 1893. they came to Lehi on an invitation from Brother James Kirkham and made their home there. ● She worked in several organizations of the Church and served on the Old Folks Committee in the early days of that organization. ● She was the mother of five children: John W., Harry S., Dorothy, Olive and Clara. Her two sons filled missions for the Church. ● She remained active and alert until her passing in her eighty-ninth year. March 31, 1947. It was difficult to make a living. ● Sold men’s furnishings and his wife’s baked goods. ● He moved the store to the back of his home at 469 North 100 East ● Disposed of his home and business and moved to the North east part of town. ● He sent his son, John W., on a six year mission to Japan and his son Harry S. filled a mission in England. ● Made a living selling fish from Utah Lake in mining camps. A lover of sports, fishing was his lifelong hobby. Stone, Arvil Oliver ● Arvil Oliver Stone, son of Joseph Oliver and Christina Larsen Stone was born in Vineyard, November 20, 1898. ● In 1913, the family moved to Provo where Arvil attended High School. He played football and basketball for Provo High. ● At the B.Y.U. he met his wife, the former Ruth Goodrich. They were married March 10, 1919 and made their home in Vineyard. ● Life time Dairy Farmer. ● Mr. Stone worked as Sunday School and M.I.A. By petition, he secured daily mail serve and also had the telephone extended to his home. ● In 1949, with the cooperation of neighbors, he promoted and managed the digging of seven thousand feet of drain from the Jordan River to east of the Saratoga Road. ● Mr. Stone is a member of the Lehi High Council and the father of six children. Taylor, James Whitehead ● James Taylor was born in Lancashire England in 1819. ● Came to the United States in 1848. ● In 1848, After being in Salt Lake City a short time, in which I was ordained a Seventy in the Sixth Quorum, we then moved to a place 30 miles south, to a place called Lehi. Lived there until his death. ● Brought the first Apple and Peach Trees to Lehi with Abram Hatch and John R. Murdock Spring 1855. ● In 1854, started a dramatic association and was the first Stage Manager for the Lehi Dramatic Association. ● He was the first or one of the first to agitate the question of Sunday School in Lehi, was appointed Superintendent of the school and was a faithful worker therein from its inception until his death — a period of 24 years. ● Started the first Coop in Lehi. People’s came into direct competition with the Lehi Union Exchange, the LDS store ran by Bishop David Evans.
