2 ‘The Age of Stupid’ I am sure many of you will have read, or heard, the famous little poem by an anonymous British author that runs as follows: Whether the weather be fine, or whether the weather be not, whether the weather be cold, or whether the weather be hot, we'll weather the weather whatever the weather....whether we like it or not!

There can be no getting away from it – so far, this year has been one of weather extremes. From one end of the UK to the other, it has been characterized by unexpected weather events. There were the PETER DIXON floods here in Cumbria, and then down in London and the South East. For periods, it has been unsea- All types of Building & Repair work carried out sonably hot and dry, and then, at least up here in Cumbria, and further north, we have settled into this ROOFING : FIREPLACES : PATIOS : EXTENSIONS rather cold, and grey, summer. We have no choice: We'll weather the weather whatever the weather....whether we like it or not! A little while back, I heard about a film called ‘The Age of Stupid’. You can watch it for free, on ‘Youtube’. The film is made up of a series of news clips made by the BBC, and others, all of which re- late to actual weather events, and which, together, point to the emergence of the climate change crisis, in the period between 1996 and 2015. The lead role in ‘The Age of Stupid’ is played by the actor, Pete Postlethwaite, a man who was once described by Steven Spielberg as ‘the best actor in the world’, and CRAIG BUTTERWORTH who will be known to many of you for his roles in films like The Usual Suspects (1995) and Brassed Off Feathers Health & Beauty D.O.T. We live very close to a river delta that has recently been seriously affected by climate change. Carlisle is built in a river delta area. Climate change is as real for us as it is to anyone. We need to love our neighbours, just as we love ourselves. And then, we have other neighbours, don’t we? There are HANDYMAN our relatives – the ones who are yet to be born. We need to change our way of living out of love them. Loving our neighbours, in a globalised world, means looking around, and looking forward, and caring enough about it all to actually change our plans, just as the Good Samaritan did, when he looked at the wounded person on the side of the road leading to Jerusalem... and was compelled by his humanity to make a plan, out of love for a fellow human being – a person he did not even know.
