HUMIDTROPICS SUMMARY Humidtropics, a research program is a global initiative that helps poor farm families, particularly led by women, in tropical Africa, Asia and Americas to boost their income from integrated agricultural systems’ intensification while preserving their land for future generations. It was launched in Uganda on the 1st of August 2013 where up to sixty different stakeholders from different sectors met to discuss how to work together to improve smallholders livelihoods. The importance to change our mind set to a system approach was raised from the beginning as well as the need to pass on knowledge effectively to farmers so they can make informed decisions. From this first meeting four field sites were selected: Kiboga-Kyankwanzi, Masaka-Rakai, Mukono-Wakiso and Luwero-Nakaseke. For each of these sites NARO and Makerere University with help of local facilitators at every site will facilitate inceptions meetings with the aim to develop local R4D platforms with local stakeholders. Kiboga-Kyankwanzi was the first location to launch the Humidtropics program at site level. The inception meeting took place at Kiboga Town on the 22nd August 2013 with 50 participants coming from different sectors. On the 6th of February 2014 a workshop was held in Kiboga to create the R4D Platform (research for development) Committee and the entry points were selected. This report tries to capture all the discussions and outcomes from the workshop. 2.
