ACEÑOLAZA3 Summary: Characterization and phenology of species with beekeping interest in the Diamante department (Entre Ríos, Argentina). In order to evaluate the bee resources in southwestern region of the province of Entre Rios based on diversity and abundance, spatial and temporal availability of the same, with the purpose to facilitate the planning of beekeeping and compare with the resources exploited by Apis mellifera L., vegetation was surveyed in the area of influence of three apiaries. During the 1999-2001 seasons bee bloom 299 Angiospermae was recorded and coverage was determined in different environments. The botany families with beekeping interest with greater diversity of species were Asteraceae and Fabaceae. The flowering period is extended throughout the year around, with a maximum between mid-October to February. The more relevant in the supply of flowering plant families were Asteraceae, Fabaceae, Apiaceae and Brassicaceae. Tree species make their contribution particularly early in the season, being largely overcome from September forward by herbaceous. The beekeeping resource sector land, it is mainly represented by exotic herbs (e.g. Glycine max, Melilotus albus, Medicago sativa, Lotus corniculatus, Brassica campestris, Ammi and Carduus species) and in the coastal sector and islands by aquatic and marsh native species, either herbaceous (e.g. Sagittaria montevidensis, Polygonum and Eichhornia species) as arboreal (e.g. -

INTRODUÇÃO O gênero Hysterionica Willd. compreende cerca de 12 espécies, distribuídas no sul do Brasil, Paraguai, Uruguai e centro-norte da Argentina. No Brasil ocorrem cinco ou seis. As espécies de Hysterionica se distinguem pela presença de pápus duplo, com dois tipos de cerdas; as exteriores são curtas, planas e geralmente de forma triangular, ao passo que as interiores são filiformes e longas. As flores marginais, femininas, liguladas e de coloração branca ou amarela, dispõem-se em 1- 6-series; as do disco são hermafroditas e dispostas em várias séries, tendo corola tubulosa de cor amarela ou amarelo-esverdeada. DESCRIÇÃO Hysterionica nebularis Deble, Oliveira et Marchiori, sp. nov. Suffrutex lignosus, ca. 10-20 cm altus, ramibus superne dense foliosis, inferne nudis, postremo cicatricosis. Folia pinnatisecta, 15-30 mm longa, 5-12 mm lata; alterna, sessilia, cum pilis glandulosis 2-3- seriatis, 0,1-0,2 mm longis; segmentis paucis, 1-2-jugis, linearis, apice breviter acutis ad obtusis, 5-10 mm longis, 1-1,5 mm latis; rachi lineari, 1-2 mm lata, ápice breviter acuta ad obtusa, basi decurrentia. -

Hurlingham (1686), Buenos Aires, Argentina Corresponding author : * [email protected] ABSTRACT Many of the herbaceous ornamentals under cultivation, or their progenitor species, are endemic to South America and these taxa represent a valuable resource for future breeding programs. Argentina has contributed with an important number of ornamental varieties developed from native germplasm. For example varieties derivates from genera such as Petunia, Glandularia, Portulaca, Alstroemeria, Calceolaria and Calibrachoa have been successful and are broadly cultivated around the world. Since 1999, the breeding working group of the Flori- culture Institute (INTA-Argentina) has successfully addressed various techniques for the domestication, characterization and breeding of ornamental plants from native species. This work begins with the exploration and collection of native plants and finishes with the development of new varieties. According to latest estimates, the vascular flora of Argentina comprises a total of 248 families, 1927 genera and 9690 species, including 45 endemic genera and 1906 species. Among them, there are many herbs, shrubs and trees with many colorful flowers and these are worthy of being cultivated in our gardens. In this manuscript, we will present the plant -

Classification of Subtribe Conyzinae (Asteraceae:Astereae)

Nesom 2925 Hartwood Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76109, USA Abstract: Subtribe Conyzinae includes Erigeron, New World Conyza, the North American genus Aphanostephus, and a small group of South American species segregated as the genera Apopyros, Darwiniothamnus, Hysterionica, Leptostelma, and Neja. Erigeron is the only genus with species native to regions outside of the New World. About 500 species are included in the subtribe. All North American, Central American, and South American species of Erigeron are included in the present treatment and assigned to one of the 35 sections recognized here. Ten new sections of Erigeron are recognized: sect. Disparipili, sect. Filifolii, sect. Gyrifolium, sect. Lonchophylli, sect. Meridionales, sect Microcephalum, sect. Quercifolium, sect. Radicati, sect. Rhizo- nexus, and sect. Terranea. Conyza is at least biphyletic; each of the groups is represented in the treatment but not all of the South American species are included. Molecular data have made it clear that traditional, North American species of Erigeron form the basal and terminal clades in the evolutionary topology of the subtribe, thus Conyza, Aphanostephus, and the other segregate genera have arisen from within the branches of Erigeron. Erigeron, as currently treated and tentatively maintained here, is paraphyletic. Broad taxonomic alternatives that include only monophyletic taxa are: (1) to treat the whole subtribe as Erigeron or, (2) to recognize Aphanostephus or Aphanostephus, Conyza, and the other South American segregates and at least an additional 5 to 10 new generic-level segregates from species groups traditionally treated as North American Erigeron. THE EVOLUTION OF COMPOSITAE IN A GLOBAL CONTEXT 21-28 October 2018 | Quito - Ecuador THE EVOLUTION OF COMPOSITAE IN A GLOBAL CONTEXT 21-28 October 2018 | Quito - Ecuador XII LATIN AMERICAN BOTANICAL CONGRESS The evolution of Compositae in a global context About the symposium Compositae or Asteraceae (or comps) are the most diverse flowering plant family, with over 1,700 genera and 24,000-30,000 species. Members of the family inhabit every continent except Antarctica and they include 1 of every 10 flowering plants in the world. Besides its ovewhelming diversity, the Compositae also play a key role in major ecosystems around the world, and are an important source of food, oil, industrial products, ornamentals and medicines. Given the importance of the family, much effort has been placed on getting together an international team of colaborators focused on studying the Compositae. Latin America is of particular importance in the study of the evolution and diversification of the family, not only because of its major presence on the continent, but also because there is still so much that we don’t know about the evolutionary processess that took place in the region. The symposium “Evolution of Compositae in a global context” was proposed to the XII Latin American Botanical Congress organizing comittee, with the main objective of getting together people actively working on the Compositae, so they could share there findings and further promote future collaborations between them while implementing new techniques and approaches that could help us know better this wonderful plant family. All this information, gathered collectively, and freely shared among the large community of researchers will boost our efforts in the conservation of biodiversity and sustainability of the ecosystems and enhance the economic importance of the family for the benefit of humankind. -

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The Paititi Natural Reserve is located in the southeastern part of the Tandilia mountain range (Buenos Aires province, Argentina). With the aim of recording the floristic richness of Sierra Chica, an untouched area of the reserve, all vas- cular plants were inventoried and categorized by family, status, and life form. Altogether, 364 taxa from 72 families were found, with the most predominant families being Poaceae (20.7%), Asteraceae (20.1%), and Fabaceae (5.8%). We found 95 adventive species, 4 cosmopolitan, and 265 native. The most abundant life forms were hemicryptophytes (33.1%), therophytes (30.6%), and criptophytes (22.6%); the therophytes were mostly represented by adventive spe- cies. We also found species that were known from Buenos Aires province but not from mountainous areas. Despite being a small area within Argentina, Sierra Chica constitutes a valuable refuge for native flora of the Tandilia mountain range system, which is in danger of being affected by exotic plants.
