BY COLIN THORSEN

The new-look Te Awamutu Sub Union rugby team retained the Peace Cup repulsing the challenge of Maniapoto 36-10 in round one of the Stan Meads Cup competition. As could be expected, it was a rusty first-up performance from a Manuka Health sponsored Te Awamutu side fielding several new faces in 2016. Carl Henderson reports that the Peace Cup/SMC holders showed improvement in some areas by the game’s end but still have plenty to work on. He felt the newly-formed Maniapoto side can hold their heads high after proving worthy opponents. “They should be very com- petitive in their upcoming games,” said Henderson.
