PRELIMINARY FALL 2015 ENROLLMENTS IN ILLINOIS HIGHER EDUCATION

This report summarizes preliminary fall-term 2016 headcount and full-time-equivalent (FTE) enrollments at colleges and universities in Illinois. It also includes enrollments in remedial/developmental courses for Academic Year 2014-2015. Fall-term enrollments provide a “snapshot” of Illinois higher education enrollments on the 10th day, or census date, of the fall term.

Preliminary fall 2015 enrollments by sector

Including enrollments at out-of-state institutions authorized to operate in Illinois, fall 2016 preliminary headcount enrollments at 208 degree-granting institutions total 782,756 (see Table 4 for institutional level data). Fall 2016 FTE enrollments total 581,661. Enrollments by sector are shown below in Table 1.

Total remedial/developmental students

Table 2 summarizes unduplicated headcount of undergraduate students enrolled in at least one remedial/developmental course during a 12-month period (Academic Year 2014-2015). Many students simultaneously enroll in college-level coursework and one or more remedial/developmental courses and are included in this data. Remedial/development course enrollment data disaggregated by sector and institution are presented in Table 5.

Table 3 summarizes the percent change in the preliminary headcount and FTE from 2015 to 2016. These differences are based only on those institutions that responded to the survey both years so the changes reflected here are actual changes in enrollment patterns and not due to the response rate to the survey from one year to the next. Undergraduate enrollment declined in all sectors while graduate enrollment held somewhat steady (Public University and Private Not-For- Profit) or increased (Private For-Profit) in all but the Out-of-State sector. Table 6 contains the comparison for each institution individually.

Table 4 provides the institutional level headcount and FTE data for those institutions that responded to the survey. Table 5 provides the institutional level remedial/developmental data for those institutions that offer such programs and responded to the survey. Finally, Table 6 contains the percent difference in preliminary fall enrollment headcounts and FTE for each institution that responded to the survey both years.
