Retford reached the fifth round (last 16) of the FA Vase in the 2006–07 season, while their best run in the FA Cup has consisted of one appearance in the fourth qualifying round, in the 2008–09 season, but they were defeated 3–1 by Alfreton Town Their first season in the FA Trophy in 2007–08 took them to the first round where they were defeated 5–2 by Histon. 2011-2012 saw the club win the NCEL Premier Division with 85 points, and subsequently haven’t hit the heights since with 9th Place, 22nd Place 2011 MATCH PROGRAMME and 15th Place in the following seasons leading up to this season.

There are some fresh faces at Jones & Co Stadium and some sad departures that we need to inform the fans of, some here is an up to date list of the ins and outs;

Ins Fans favourite Brett Lucas has returned to the club after a period at a string of different clubs. Lucas 22, has plenty of experience for such a young player having played at Goole AFC, Frickley, Stocksbridge Park Steels, AFC Mansfield and Retford FC whilst also boasting being the ex-Doncaster Rovers youth team captain. Brett was keen to restore the reputation of the club, and help he management in their goals.

James Done joins us as a free agent and is a technically gifted and pacey player can operate anywhere across midfield or up front. James has recently returned from a spell in the U.S where he’s been coaching. Welcome James!

Next Up, Cameron Dear joins the club from Boston United. The former Mansfield Town and County player comes to us after a short spell at Boston United. Unfortunately, even though we have brought in 5 players we have had some key departures. Sean Sherwood has left the club on a temporary basis due to personal reasons but could soon be returning to the club. Chris Funnell has also left the club due to personal reasons, but will not be returning. Both would like to thank the club for their support whilst at the club. Ashley Shannon has been returned to his parent club Gainsborough Trinity after an unsuccessful trial period. Matt Johnson has left the club due to not being able to commit fully to the club. Finally, Ian Turner chose to leave the club without informing us after agreeing to come in as physio along with Harriet. We wish all of the departing players and staff all the best in the future.

2015/16 proved to be, with the benefit of hindsight, something of a watershed. Although a top six league finish, at t he very best, looked clearly achievable up until Christmas, the second half of the season was distinctly underwhelming, not helped at all by the effects of a very wet winter on the fixture schedule and the loss of a number of key players to long-term injuries. A 10th place finish was the upshot and that along with a number of cup disappointments left the Barton Town Old Boys Football Club was formed at the start of season as one of those to forget. Off the field, and after 10 the 1995/96 season as a result of the amalgamation of the two years’ fantastic and much-appreciated support, Paul Vickers longest established and most successful clubs in the North ended his sponsorship of The Euronics Ground.
