Proclamations Presented at the Dec/Jan/Feb Regular Meetings

On February 19th, Council President Martoni, along with fellow Council Members, designated February 15, 2013 as Ladies Hos- pital Aid Society (LHAS) “True Love Day” and recognized the month of February as “Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Pre- vention Month” in Allegheny County. LHAS partnered with the Demi Brae Cuccia Awareness Organization in 2012, and since that time they have visited 25 schools, reached over 20,000 stu- dents and faculty, and distributed over 12,000 t-shirts with the logo “XOShove≠TruLove.” Demi was brutally murdered in Au- gust 2007 by her ex-boyfriend just one day after celebrating her 16th birthday. The Demi Brae Cuccia Awareness Organization was established to honor her memory. On February 19th, Council President Chuck Martoni and Council Member Bill Robinson proclaimed the month of February as “American Heart Month” in Allegheny County. They commended the Metro-Great Rivers Affiliate of the American Heart Association for promoting education and awareness by encouraging citizens to learn the warning signs of heart attack and stroke, and for its efforts to fight cardiovascular diseases throughout southwest- ern . Ms. Sherri Stitt, Vice-President of the Pittsburgh Metro-Great Rivers Affiliate and Mr. Richard Shaw, Board Chair- man accepted the proclamation.

On Friday, January 25, 2013, tens of thousands of people from around the country attended the annual March for Life event in Washington, D.C. to protest the landmark abortion rights case Roe v. Wade on its 40th anniversary. To mark the event, on February 5th, Council Member Heather Heidelbaugh presented a proclamation to Helen Cindrich, Ex- ecutive Director of the People Con- cerned for the Unborn Child (PCUC) of Pittsburgh.
