Lilac-scented love

Everything we know about Maglič Fortress #serbiacreatesinspiration is the stuff of legends. Starting from the Photo: Dara Miletić time of construction (it is assumed to be some time in the 13th century), through the name of the ruler responsible for building it (either King Uroš or the wife of Despot Đurađ Branković, Cursed Jerina), all the way through to the decision to plant lilac trees all along one side of the fortress. Why lilacs? Well, for love! It is believed that it was King Uroš I who ordered them to be planted as a romantic gesture to his wife, Helen of Anjou, to comfort the homesick queen by creating a landscape reminiscent of her native Provence. Today, the ancient towers stand as a monument of folk legend and timeless stories of great love. High, high up in the fog... How to get there? Visiting all the destinations in this region:
