Little League Rams: By Marrissa Landers Redlands Rays Coach of the Year, Eric Passfield led his Little Leaguers to victory on what was an edge-of-your-seat nail biter game. Starting pitcher, Nathan Buckby, struck out 9 from 14 batters. There were great fielding catches made by short stop, Noah Marton, and first baseman, Nathan Buckby, that made us wonder if these young men weren’t reincarnations of baseball greats! This fantastic team trailed the top of the table Indian’s until the 5th innings when they took the lead and won 5 runs to 3. Well done Little League, next year promises more great things and we will be eagerly waiting to watch this space! Junior League Rams: By Marrissa Landers The Junior League Rams division had a hard fought win against the Beenleigh Hawks to become the 2018/19 Premiers. The fans were treated to some great pitching by newcomer Genki Nishimura who struck out 6 batters in 3 innings and had 2 safe hits from 2 at bats (including a double). Another stand out performance from our resident big hitter Avery Mommsen who batted 3 from 3 with two doubles and bought in 4 batters. The Rays looked strong from start to finish maintaining a lead difference in every innings from between two to five runs to taken the win 10-7. Masters Rays: By Gayle Fletcher Our Masters Rays are the 2018/19 Premiers after an exciting win against Pine Rivers Rapids at Bray Park on Monday 8th April. Starting pitcher, Kris Rowe and Rapids pitcher, Lucas Woodrow, dominated the first three innings with no safe hits recorded and no runs scored. Pine Rivers scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning and Redlands replied with singles by Stephen Schneider, Adam Pearce, Greg Joce, Kris Rowe and Craige Johnson and a double by Co- rey Dean to end the inning at 8-3 to Redlands. Rapids try at a comeback in the top of the fifth inning was countered by excellent pitching by Adam Pearce, who struck out two batters, and top fielding by Mark Holden who disposed of the third batter to end the game with the win. It was a great all-round effort by Redlands who were top of the Masters South ladder for the entire season. Rays Masters last won the premiers trophy in the 2012/13 season. Senior League Rams: By Gayle Fletcher Our Senior League Rams ended their season as runners-up to the combined All Stars/ Rapids team after a hard-fought 8-12 Grand Final game at Pine Hills. With Soraya and Kai missing from the team due to other commitments, Junior Leaguers Alex Landers and Ginki Nishimura stepped up to capably fill their places on the team. Pitchers for Redlands were Kalab Brand who pitched five innings and Paris Bastow who closed out the game. Batting stars were Elliot Comerford with a single and a double, and Ginki Junior League Rams: Nishimura with a double and two singles while Back From Left: Ray Comerford (Manager), Billy Nagy-Shave, Eras Ryan Scurry, Jamie Doran and Eras Van Van Niekirk, Niekirk all hit singles to get them to on base. It Front from left: Jamie Doran, Kalab Brand, Ginki Nisimura, Alex was a solid performance by the whole team to Landers, Paris Bastow, Elliot Comerford, Lee Brand (Coach) bring home the silver medal. 2 Editorial Round-up: By Dorry Beutel Our club has ended an amazing and successful season with three champion teams and one runner-up after the grand final rounds and the honour of being named Senior Club of the Year with Rhys Niit named the Div 1 Pitcher of the Year. The T-Ball program, organized by coordinator, Kirsty Jackson, was well attended and under the capable coaching of our senior players and coaches, the team improved each week they played. Our Rookie Ball Rays played in a league of 6 teams which gave them a taste of what is to come as they progress into the next level of competitions and, under the guidance of Luke Tranter and Scott McLean, they improved their skills on a weekly basis. Rays junior and senior teams travelled far and wide to play their weekly games with Junior League and Div 6 travelling as far as Toowoomba throughout the season while Div 1 & 2 competed at Pine Hills to the north and Surfers Paradise to the south and anywhere in between. Little League, Junior League, Senior League and Div 6 teams were at the top of their ladder for most of the season and while some teams struggled with the bare nine players, our Little League Rams numbered 14 members. Redlands Rays members have been chosen for representative teams by Brisbane South, Baseball Queensland and Baseball Australia and have excelled in their respective competitions with Soraya and Paris returning from their national championship with a silver medal and with Soraya being awarded the fielding award at the Youth Women’s Nationals. Throughout the season, I have (hopefully) managed to photograph every member of our Rays family before, during and after games and at all our events. We have had a highly successful Trivia Night, three well-attended working bees and our club hosted a very great 12-14yrs Schoolboys Baseball State Titles on the weekend of 27th-30th April. We have had some amazing sponsorships and donations by local companies which have contributed to making our game events popular and our working bees successful. We have managed to have a more public presence in the Redlands with all except one of our articles about our successes (see it on Page 4) published either online and/or in the Redland City Bulletin Although at times our stories and photos have been edited and chopped, it has been great just to put the club out there and let people know we are around and having a fabulous year. There has also been a great online article about the club posted by Brayden Heselhurst on the Redlands Community News website. The Junior and Senior Presentation nights have been held and you can find photos of all the winners and grinners from Page 8 onwards - altogether a fantastic season. End-of-Season Standings - All Teams 3 This is the only article that didn’t make it to either the Bulletin online or into the printed paper this season. Rays Junior players named in 2019 Brisbane South representative teams By Dorry Beutel Redlands Rays junior teams hosted players from five clubs on Saturday with Rookie Ball, Little League, Junior League, Senior League and U20’s playing at home for the last game of the sea- son. Junior Coordinator, Ray Comerford, created a carnival atmosphere complete with between-game sausage sizzles and drinks for the players, music and announcements throughout the day and an inflatable batting and pitching cage provided by Baseball Queensland for all to test their skills. With play-offs scheduled for the next two weeks, Rays Little League, Junior League and Senior League Rams all won their final round robin games of the 2018/19 season giving them home team advantage for this weekend’s semi-final round. A win in the semi-finals will send each team to the Junior grand finals which will be held at Pine Hills on the 23rd March. Nine Redlands junior players have recently been named in Brisbane South Regional representa- tive teams and will be participating in their relevant state titles scheduled to be held at Indians Baseball Club at Runcorn from 11th to 14th April. Eli Bastow, Nathan Buckby, Damien Gardner, Cooper Hokins, Aiden Lawson and Lennox Passfield were selected for Brisbane South Little League (Div 2) team and Junior Leaguers, Avery Mommsen, Alex Landers (shadow) and Tybias Horsfield (shadow) will be playing in the Junior League team. The winning team and runner-up from the state titles will win the right to compete in the 2019 Australian Championships with Little League to be held in Lismore on 5th to 10th June and the Junior League to be held in Adelaide on 26th to 31st May this year.

  • Annual Elections for Baseball Queensland Presentation to The
Annual elections for Baseball Queensland Presentation to the Members and Clubs of Baseball Queensland by Rodney Gaunt __________________________________________________________________________________ To my fellow Queensland baseball community – members, Regions, Clubs, players, families and supporters, I am sending you this video to let you know that I am nominating for the position of Commissioner for the Board of Baseball Queensland. This election is a really important time for our baseball community given the disruptions that have occurred within the Baseball Queensland landscape over the past three years. Over that time we have seen the resignation of the immediate past Commissioner, various Board members and the decision to not renew the contract for our previous CEO. Added to this, the financial position over the past three years for Baseball Queensland has been muddied and not been made transparent for our members. Many members are aware of the outside disruptions and I would at this time like to pay particular thanks to our current BQ Board members Alan Connors, Jo Jackson, Geoff Wade and Sally West who have stayed the course and ensured that the best interests of Baseball Queensland have been protected from these outside parties. I trust that members will continue to support these Board Members into the future as their experiences and input into the running of the BQ Board is vital. I would also like to sincerely thank the Regions for their support at the recent Special General meeting – that support will not be forgotten. We now need some continuity and some transparency in the way in which Baseball Queensland goes about its business.

  • Council of Australian Baseball Scorers
Council of Australian Baseball Scorers Technical Commissioners – Paula Kenning, Michael Gourlay, Lorraine Dunn http://www.scorers.baseball.com.au/ PLAY BALL…………… Basically as a baseball scorer you are writing down what happens on the field during a baseball game. You don’t have to make things up; neither do you have to decide what’s right or wrong (that’s the umpire’s job); it all happens in front of you and you just write it down. You even have a guideline - Official Baseball Rule Book (available for purchase from your State or Territory Scoring Organization) - which helps you score it right. Baseball is a game of numbers. All fielding positions have a number (see Page 2.); all batters have a batter number (see Diagram B page 4). You write down what the batter does remembering that the batter turns into a runner once he is safe on first base. From your scoring, batting & fielding & pitching statistics can be determined. Each team has a minimum of nine players in it (one for each fielding position). In some games (usually senior ones) a tenth player called a designated hitter may bat instead of the pitcher. The designated hitter does not field. He may be substituted as all players may be substituted, however if he takes a fielding position the pitcher then has to bat in the spot of the substituted fielder. You may also have players who may run for the catcher (called a courtesy runner). This runner may not receive any runner statistics; they are awarded to the catcher (check local league rules).

  • Active After-School Communities Report
Active After-school Communities program and the Australian Baseball Federation MAY 2011 1 | P a g e INTRODUCTION The Active After-school Communities (AASC) program has now been running for over six years. During that time the program has liaised with state and national sporting organisations to help local clubs increase their membership base by exposing primary school aged children to their sport. Two years ago the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) started to prepare specific National Sporting Organisation (NSO) Reports to detail each sport’s involvement in the AASC program. These reports combine a statistical analysis as well as a qualitative review of the information, some examples of best practice case studies and any media articles that may have been generated. The intent of these reports is for NSOs to utilise the information at a national, state and regional level to help develop their sport. I would also encourage NSOs to use the report as a basis for the sport development officers and the AASC’s Regional Coordinators to collaborate and plan deliberate strategies for upcoming terms to promote the transition of children, families and new coaches from the AASC program into respective feeder clubs. Some transition strategies that have proved successful for many sports are as follows: Coordinating a ‘Come ‘n Try Gala Day’ at the end of a term. Delivering a clinic at selected sites to promote membership to a designated feeder club or participation in a modified junior sport program. Coordinating a cluster of schools/Outside School Hours Care Services (OSHCS) to attend the local club and organise a registration or promotional day.
