Warning: City Council ignored newfound concerns regarding toxic waste at Eden Housing site

The San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board recently issued a letter with newfound concerns about toxic contamination at the Eden Housing site. The City Council ignored it, putting future residents at risk.

Ignoring toxic site contamination

It has long been known that the site where Eden Housing seeks to build housing has been contaminated with lead, arsenic, petroleum hydrocarbons, perchloroethylene and other toxic poisons. Yet a new letter from the regional board overseeing site cleanup was ignored by the City Council in their rush to approve the flawed Eden Housing plan.

Additional remediation required

The regional board requested that the City of Livermore undertake additional investigation and remediation in order to ensure the safety of future residents at the site. State environmental laws require that the city conduct the investigation before approving the project. But they approved it anyway.

Our safety is at risk

When the City Council approved the Eden plan, they ignored the 4 to 1 majority of Livermore residents who opposed the project. Now, they’re ignoring our safety from toxic waste, as well.

It’s not too late to Save Livermore Downtown! We will be reviewing available options to remedy this terrible mistake. We will not give up on trying to preserve the unique charm of the city we love.
