The World No. 4 is making his eighth straight appearance at the Aircel Chennai Open, and his loyalty has been rewarded with one doubles title, three singles titles in four finals, 11 wins in a row and 22 straight sets. Already owner of the most singles titles in event history, Wawrinka plays for a fourth Chennai crown on Sunday when he meets first-time ATP World Tour finalist Borna Coric. Wawrinka has enjoyed a routine road to the final with a first-round bye and straight-set wins over Coric’s fellow teen Andrey Rublev, No. 5 seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and No. 3 seed Benoit Paire. Coric, on the other hand, has spent more than nine hours on court for the right to become the first teenager in an ATP final since his countryman Marin Cilic at 2008 New Haven. Cilic went on to win his first title, but Coric will be physically challenged to do the same (see chart below). 2016 Aircel Chennai Open Stan Wawrinka Borna Coric Matches Played 3 4 Sets Played 6 11 Games Played 56 118 Shortest Match 2R in 53 minutes 2R in 90 minutes Longest Match QF in 78 minutes SF in 177 minutes Total Match Time on Court 3 hours, 16 minutes 9 hours, 29 minutes Two first-time teams will contest the doubles final as No. 3 seeds Oliver Marach and Fabrice Martin take on Paire and Austin Krajicek. Paire is the only former finalist of the four, teaming with Wawrinka to win the 2013 Chennai doubles title over Andre Begemann and Martin Emmrich.
