Newsletter Special on IMDS Release 13.0 1. Deactivation of IMDS019 Semi-Component Material Data Sheets

With IMDS Release 13.0 the published Recommendation IMDS019 Semi-Component MDSs (SMDSs) will be deactivated (Company ID: 102677 / Name: ZVEI-Rec019).

For these SMDSs, the IMDS standard behavior for deactivated MDSs is applied. When cre- ating an entirely new MDS the IMDS019 SMDSs cannot be found and therefore cannot be referenced anymore. New MDSs copies or versions referencing directly one of the IMDS019 SMDSs under the top node or in any component-/semi-component node created in the tree will issue an Error message. These references can be exchanged by the user. To better un- derstand the impacts of these deactivations we have summed up the following use cases:

Message type Description Error Message in IMDS • Copying an own, accepted or published MDS that references directly Check Procedure one of the IMDS019 SMDSs under the top node or in any component-/ semi-component node created in the tree • Creating a new version of an own MDS that references directly one of the IMDS019 SMDSs under the top node or in any component-/semi- component node created in the tree Warning Message in IMDS • MDSs released before IMDS Release 13.0 referencing any IMDS019 Check Procedure SMDSs • IMDS019 SMDSs used in any sub references of an MDS • MDSs in Edit Mode created before IMDS Release 13.0 referencing IMDS019 SMDSs under the top node or in any component-/semi-compo- nent node created in the tree • Creating a Forwarding Copy of an MDS referencing any IMDS019 SMDSs The deactivation of IMDS REC019 datasheets is a major challenge to the electronics in- dustry and it is not anticipated for customers to require all legacy REC019 containing data sheets to be updated. Updates to legacy Rec019 containing IMDS information should only be required if: • The legacy data contains an incorrect declaration regarding a Substance of Very High Concern / GADSL listed substance 1 • The legacy data contains an incorrect application code for compliance purposes • The legacy data does not allow for a correct article based threshold calculation (e.g. 0.1%w/w) • Expressly requested by the OEM customer under a B2B agreement.

2. Deactivation of Material Classifications with IMDS Release 13.0 The following Material Classifications will be deactivated: 1.2 Cast iron, 5.4 Duromers, 5.5.1 Plastics in polymeric compounds, 8.1 Electronics (e.g., PC boards, displays), 8.2 Electrics

For the concerned MDSs, the IMDS standard behavior for deactivated Material Classifica- tions is applied. When creating an entirely new material MDS deactivated Material Classifica- tions cannot be selected anymore. Material MDSs with invalid Material Classifications in Edit Mode generate an Error message. To better understand the impacts of these deactivations we have summed up the following use cases:

Message type Description Error Message in • Material MDSs in Edit Mode created before IMDS Release 13.0 with deacti- IMDS Check Proce- vated Material Classifications assigned dure • Copying or creating a new version of a material MDS with deactivated Material Classifications assigned • Creating a Forwarding Copy of a material MDS with deactivated Material Clas- sifications assigned No Warning or Error • Material MDSs as such released before IMDS Release 13.0 with deactivated Message in IMDS Material Classifications assigned Check Procedure • MDSs created/released before IMDS Release 13.0 referencing any material MDSs with deactivated Material Classifications assigned • New created MDSs referencing any material MDSs with deactivated Material Classifications assigned

3. IMDS REC001 Requirements for EE parts

With the deactivation of REC019 please remember that the following Rules and Guidelines should not cause a rejection of the IMDS data for materials weighing <5.0g:

Material Naming: • Rule 4.4.2.C – Most electronic materials will not be covered by a Public Norm, so MDSs should not be rejected for this requirement. • Rule 4.4.2.D – MDSs should not be rejected for not meeting this requirement. In the next version of REC019 an example of acceptable material names will be published but in the interim this should not be a reason for rejection.

Norms / Standards: • Rule 4.4.2.I – this rule is optional for materials weighing <5.0g and an MDS should not be rejected for this requirement.

4. SCIP reporting for different classifications In addition to the information provided in IMDS Newsletter 55, we would like to point out additional changes:

Any SVHC contained in a material with classification 9.x is excluded from SCIP submission.

For more information, please refer to Annex U “SUBSTANCE STATUS UNDER REACH” of the Guideline on REACH (AIG REACH) under www.acea.be/reach

Furthermore, for Lead [7439-92-1] in material category 8.x reporting to SCIP will be omitted, if one of the Application Codes 10a-d is assigned. Lead [7439-92-1] in material category 7.2 2 is not an SVHC and should not be notified to SCIP. Some substances cannot be described accurately by a CAS number because they do not appear in the final product in this state. To ensure that an accurate SCIP Notification is made, the following substances in the identified material classifications should be excluded from reporting to SCIP.

5. Changes in IMDS SC90 checks

For the Material Classifications 5-Polymer Materials and 6-Process Polymers the thresholds to keep the Material Classification of the base material in composites will be set to ≥ 5 % of the base material (agreed by supplier representatives and IMDS Steering Committee).
