Next Meeting The press and members of the public are invited to the next Ordinary Meeting of the Parish Council that will be held at the Resource Centre on 17th July 2019 from 19:30. The agenda for the meeting will be published on the website and notice board on or before 12th July 2019. As usual; there will be no meeting in August; the September meeting will be held on 18th September at the same time and location as the July meeting.

Each year the Parish Council spends £5000 on keeping our streets clean; this is 16% of our annual precept income and a task that never seems to go away. £5000 could buy us new play equipment at the Roman Park or we could reinvest that money into the Community Hall to help improve our facilities in the village. Thank you to Credenhill Cubs who you may have seen out around the village picking up litter for us they were working towards their World Challenge badge as an activity to benefit the local community.

Parish Council Vacancies In May we received nominations for 12 councillors who were all elected to the Parish Council. We have 2 vacancies to fill; if you are interested in joining the parish council then please get in touch with the parish clerk.

Community Open Day Thank you for all that attended and for those who had a table at the first Credenhill Community Open Day. The children enjoyed the Messy church activities and BBQ in the resource centre and those who attended found the event useful. We intend to run the event again in 2020.

Station Road Traffic Calming Measures The narrow section of Station Road has now been reduced to 20mph as well as additional traffic calming measures introduced. The Parish Council in conjunction with Council and the Safer Roads Partnership will continue to monitor road safety around the village and where required will respond to any concerns raised. We have received complaints recently about “boy racers” in and around the village; the Parish Council requests that people drive and park cars with respect to their neighbours and other road users.

Footpath Improvements (Camp to Credenhill) At the time of writing the improvements to the footpath between the camp and Credenhill are near completion. This work is being completed after feedback received from parents/path users regarding the poor condition of the path some 2 years ago. The Parish Council in conjunction with Ward Councillor Matthews will continue to support requests from the general public where it is evident that improvements are required. We urge you to let us and Herefordshire Council know of any issues that you would like addressing in the Parish.

Do you have 1 minute of your time to help us all? The Parish Council is currently trying to get Herefordshire Council to resurface the road between the Camp and ; the more people that report it through the Council Website the more chance we have of getting it done so please report it now: https://myaccount.herefordshire.gov.uk/report-road-defects

On Wednesday Years 4 & 6 were visited by the ‘Repeating History Company’ for their Anglo-Saxon / Viking day (https://repeating-history.com/)

The children spent the day using replica swords, shield, spears, helmets, axes, chain mail, as well as bowls, spoons, a cooking pot, drinking horns, jewellery, clothing, shoes, coins and other items. Learning how the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings would have lived.

The children had the opportunity to grind grain in a quern milling stone, play strategy board games and learn how to handle the replica shield and spears.

The children had a great day and we would like to thank the PTFA for contributing towards this wonderful learning experience.

10 The Vicar’s Letter

Dear Friends,

The Bible provides many different verses for helping us to find strength at times of difficulty, and for encouraging our faith when we feel we are in despair. Satan tries to make us feel weak, useless and ultimately to destroy us. But we can fight his attacks on our body, mind, soul and spirit with God's truths about us, and about him as our loving heavenly Father. We are 'fearfully and wonderfully' made, in his image; we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength, and he gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. His power is made perfect in the face of our weakness. Sometimes we feel strong and that we can cope with just about anything. At other times we feel as though we are hanging on to life by our finger tips. I know that I have felt both of those extremes and possibly you have too. But God is a constant source of everything that we need for life. Thankfully he doesn't get tired and need an occasional lie down! In his power and strength, we can accomplish all that we have to. When we are weary and need his strength, we can take a moment to speak out the truth of his word; that he is our strength; his power is made perfect in our weakness; that he is for us, advocating for us, and that he will see us through to the finish line. Our victory is in him. The other day I came across a handwritten summery of 2 Corinthians chapters 4&5 in my late mother’s bible, “ Bodies grow weaker, souls grow stronger; when our tents are broken, God has a house for us; what is seen does not last, what is not seen lasts for ever.” This summery gives us hope for something better one day. With every blessing, Rana Davies-James

Credenhill Friendship club

Well friends how lovely it was to see you all again at our last meeting, and thanks to Julie for everything she has done. I thought that the BBC television coverage of June the 6th A date we will never forget and those who died for us on that day many years ago and those that survived the D Day landings of France was very good. We were very fortunate to have on June the 6th Mr Peter Weston who told us about the life story of Allen Leonard Lewis the only person in Here- ford to be awarded the Victoria Cross in World War 1. Peter with the help of friends, have worked so hard to get recognition for this very brave man, and have now raised enough money to pay for a statue of Allen which has now found a resting place in Hereford Town. Thank you Peter for a very inter- esting talk. Keeping along the same theme, at your next meeting on July 4th your speaker will be Mr Mike Watkins who’s talk is “W W 1 Soldiers Diary”s So that sounds very interesting too. On August 1st we will be having a B B Q Let’s hope the sun shines, ☀️ at the moment it is supposed to be flaming June where is the sun I ask myself, well we can wish. Trevor will be telling you info towards your September Trip.at next meeting Well folks looking forward to seeing you all soon, if there is anyone out there who would like to know more about us my Telephone Number is on the back of the C C N , or come and visit, we would love to meet you, you will be made very welcome we meet the first Thursday in the month at Cre- denhill Social Club in the skittle alley at 7.30p.m

Well friends keep well, take care, Val. 18

Volunteer today!

Onside a local charity which works across Herefordshire and Worcestershire, is looking for people to take on the role of a Relevant Persons Representative (RPR). As an RPR the volunteer would be visiting a person just once every 6-8 weeks for no more than 1 hour. Volunteering would be local to where the volunteer lives. Volunteers as an RPR are safeguarding the rights of vulnerable people who don’t have the mental capacity to consent to care or treatment. Onside’s Volunteer Manager, Claire Watkins, said “Our volun- teers give their time, their passion and enthusiasm, this role is very worthwhile and rewarding.”

Volunteers are ordinary people of all ages and backgrounds they just need to be good listeners and have some time to give. We also have further opportunities with other advocacy projects.

If you can picture yourself in the role of an Onside volunteer please call Claire Watkins - Volunteer Manager on 01905 27525 or email [email protected] to find out more. This type of volunteering is flexible to fit with your life and circumstances. Free training (throughout the year) is provided and all expenses paid.

St Swithun’s Day The name of Swithun is best known today for a British weather lore proverb, which says that if it rains on St. Swithun's day, 15 July, it will rain for 40 days.

St Swithun's day if thou dost rain For forty days it will remain St Swithun's day if thou be fair For forty days 'twill rain nae mare I wonder if its true?
