Annual Report 2013-2014
FACULTY OF RADIOLOGISTS Dámh na Raideolaithe Annual Faculty Newsletter 2013/2014 Deans Introduction Retiring Dean’s don’t die: they just lose their Faculties. So I have always maintained. As I write this, it seems an appropriate time to take stock. As everyone before me has quite rightly said, the achievements of any of us are largely the results of the significant efforts of predecessors, and certainly this is the case for me. There is, I think, a continuum of progress. Often, in the eye of a particular storm, this isn’t apparent but the helicopter view does reveal method and evolution. I would hope, within this foreword, to explain to Fellows of the Faculty, what I think has been achieved over the last number of years, and what has been set in train for my worthy successor, Prof. Dermot Malone. Since I became a board member, my continuum of Deans looks like this: Lynn Johnston (2000-2002), David McInerney (2002-2004), Eamann Breatnach (2004-2006), Peter McCarthy (2006-2008), Risteard O’Laoide (2008-2010) and Adrian Brady (2010-2012). Improvement and iterative change is constant. If one takes a look for example at some recent years’ achievements: 2010 Faculty funding is streamed through the Medical Education and Training Unit of the HSE. The genesis of the Quality Assurance programme begins, as does the digitization of the FFR examination. All three are massive changes in how we function. 2011 In May 2011, the Professional Competence Scheme begins, and Ireland increases its educational significance in ESR, with Dr Breatnach becoming the Scientific Director of the European Board of Radiology for the European Diploma in Radiology, and Dr Brady its first Irish examiner. -

SShheeeeddyy’’ss MMeenn MMuunnsstteerr’’ss KKiinnggss Part one Issue 11 July 13th 2009 photo; SPORTSFILE EDITORIAL COMMENT Issue 11 July 13th 2009 p 2 Hello Hurling Fans, With the Munster Final, the 2 qualifiers, the Christy Ring, Nicky Rackard and Lory Meagher Cup Finals along with a special interview with one of the greatest living legends of the game Micky ‘The Rattler’ Byrne we are diving this week’s issue into 2 PDF’s. In that way we can keep the resolution of the photos high and the size of both sections will be less than one megabyte. Part one is the magazine section and part two is the weekend roundup. The three Cup Finals in Croke Park provided some fine hurling but the crowd was just under 4,000 so it is probably back to the drawing board for those finals. Each needs to be played as a curtain raiser to a game from the Liam McCarthy Championship to create the right atmosphere. The Munster Final had patches of fine hurling and some fine individual displays but lacked the intensity of former classics. Both teams Tipperary and Waterford are continu - ing to make progress. Tipperary still look the best challenger to the champions but Wa - terford battled with heart and could yet make a final four berth. Best wishes ‘til next week from Hurling World. FEATURE Mickey ‘The Rattler’Byrne Issue 11 July 13th 2009 p 3 Rattle ‘em Mickey! Mickey ‘The Rattler’ Byrne from Thurles Sarsfields, held down the right fullback position for Tipperary for 12 championship seasons between 1949 and 1960 and was a substitute on the All-Ireland winning team of 1945. -

Congratulations to Katie Morris, Sinéad Meagher and Eimear Meagher, our new All-Ireland medal holders. The girls were the only Tipp representatives on the team which is a great achievement for the club. Well done also to Eamonn Spillane who was one of the two Munster team coaches on their great win. VOL. 2 ISSUE 3 APRIL 2014 SEPTEMBER 2013 FINAL CIVIC RECEPTION AT NENAGH TOWN COUNCIL On Friday April 25th, our club was honoured with a civic reception from Nenagh Town Council. This is the highest award the town can award and it was in recognition of the fantastic success our club enjoyed in 2013 in a number of different codes. Firstly the camogie section was honoured because they won the county Junior League and championship while the U18's also 1 captured county championship honours. Both our Scór and handball sections had numerous successes last year and they were recognised, as were our minor hurlers who won the county title. 2 3 Special mention must go to Aislinn O’Brien who was individually recognised because not only was she on the camogie teams who were so successful but she was also on the Nenagh Town AFC teams that won Munster honours at both U16 and Senior level. -

Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae Thiobrad Arann Laochra Gael 13th PRESENTATIONS by Iar-Uachtarán Liam Ó Néill at The Dome, Semple Stadium November 15th, 2015 ag tosnú 16.30pm 1 Cumann na Sean Ghael - Coiste Chontae Thiobrad Arann INAUGURAL MEETING Thurles, April 23th, 2003 he inaugural meeting of Cumann na Sean Ghael, Coiste Chontae Thiobrad Arann, was held in Hayes’s Hotel, Thurles on April 23, 2003. The attendance included John Moloney, Noel Morris, John Costigan, Pat Moroney, Seamus J., King and Michael TO’Meara. Seamus McCarthy was unable to be present. At the outset John Moloney was unanimously appointed chairman amd Michael O’Meara secretary. The chairman outlined the aims of the group, which were chiefly to honour annually persons over 70 years of age, who had given significant service to the G.A.A. in whatever capacity - player, official, groundsman, jersey carrier, tea maker, referee, umpire, etc. A sample of a framed certificate, which was presented annually in Dublin, was shown by the chairman to the meeting and the secretary undertook to get quotations for same. It was agreed that approximately 40 annual presentations would be made, i.e. an average of 10 per division. The consensus was that the general public should be asked to nominate suitable persons and justify why they were considered worthy. It was agreed that the presentations would be made in Brú Ború, Cashel on November 16th or 23rd and that the evening’s programme would consist of a chat, light refreshments and entertainment before the presentations. It was also agreed that the wives of the recipients be invited to the presentations. -

This year our Senior Championship was played on a new (or was it the old) system and it proved to be a great success, bringing great freshness and a renewed interest in hurling to the Division. We were treated to a number of very close enjoyable games, culminating in taday's unique final pairing of Burgess and Kildangan. Both of these team have come from Intermediate ranks as recently as 2004 and 2005 so a new Club name will be inscribed on to the Frank McGrath Cup in 2008. Kildangan's two previous successes were before the present Trophy came into being in 1962. With little form to go on, 1 look forward to a cracking, sporting game and I wish both learns the best 01 luck. -
