George Square "The Center of All Glasgow"

Flanked on one side by the magnificent City Chambers and on another by the and Clyde Valley Tourist Board, was laid out in the 19th Century and is dominated by a 24-meter (80-foot) column, with a statue of Sir Walter Scott on top. On a sunny day, clusters of people sunbathe amidst statues of such august personages as Queen by dalbera Victoria, Prince Albert, Robert Burns, James Oswald, James Watt, William Gladstone and Robert Peel. The Cenotaph war memorial is also around and the square itself saw bloodshed in 1918 when crowds rioted during a protest against the 56-hour working week. As the only large open space in the city center, it's often used as a venue for celebrations.

Provand's Lordship "The Oldest House in Glasgow"

Situated adjacent to Glasgow Cathedral, is Provand's Lordship, the oldest surviving medieval house in Glasgow. Built in 1471 as the manse for the St Nicholas Hospital, the house is believed to have been used by Mary, Queen of Scots in 1566 during a visit to Glasgow to see Lord Darnley. Its name is derived from the 19th century, when it was occupied by the Lord by CharNewcomb of Provand. These days, it operates as a museum and houses a collection of medieval furniture and artifacts, spread over three floors. At the rear, is a tranquil medieval herb garden which is accessible to wheelchair users.

Designed by renowned Scottish architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, it is unique for not only being spire-less but also for being the the only church planned and completed by the artist. From decorative motifs that lean on by dave souza spirituality and mysticism to the stunning blue-heart stained glass window and the stark black timber beams against white walls, Mackintosh's unmistakable style is evident in every detail of this building. The majestic edifice is no longer a church and is now home of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society.

Pollok House "Beautiful House"

Set in the attractive Country Park, this 18th-century Palladian mansion houses the Stirling Maxwell collection of paintings. 16th and 17th- century art by El Greco, Murillo, William Blake and Goya hang in the museum, whilst 18th- and 19th-century artifacts and furniture can also be viewed. Afterward, you can wander around the beautifully tended by Open Glasgow gardens, enjoy a snack in the restaurant and browse in the gift shop.

Holmwood House "Building by Alexander Greek Thomson"

Built in 1857 for the paper tycoon James Couper, Holmwood House has been described as Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's finest domestic design. Glasgow's other great architect (beside Charles Rennie Mackintosh) has become hugely popular in recent years. Holmwood is a typically picturesque adaptation of the classical Greek style, and visitors can by **emmar** observe the ongoing conservation work on recently discovered stenciled decoration. Groups must book in advance and an audio tour is available for French and German speakers.
