First Chapter
Greg brings a convicting message that beckons our attention in these times. If we are not diligent to press into greater measures of faith, we will be tempted toward complacency and half-hearted efforts. May these pages spark a fire that reminds us of the significance each day offers. Never Settle is a resounding call to embrace the wholehearted passion of the Christian life. REBEKAH LYONS, bestselling author of Rhythms of Renewal and You Are Free Greg Holder is a gifted teacher with a profound Christian faith who has much to offer all of us in need of godly help and encouragement. NICKY GUMBEL, vicar at Holy Trinity Brompton; pioneer of the Alpha Course There’s more to your life than you can possibly imagine, and Never Settle will help you unlock the door to the more, more, more that God has for you. Prepare to be challenged, inspired, and encouraged with every page. MARGARET FEINBERG, author of More Power to You I have personally seen the results of Greg’s leadership at The Crossing Church. As a guest speaker, I have experienced the hospitality of the staff, the vision of the church, and an organizational culture that never settles for less than their best for God. I’m excited you get to experience that now, too, through Greg’s new book. My hope is that you are inspired to do the same. To rise up, dust yourself off (if life has knocked you down), and be reminded—never settle. God’s with you. The two of you are a powerful combination. -

Sophie's World
Sophie’s World Jostien Gaarder Reviews: More praise for the international bestseller that has become “Europe’s oddball literary sensation of the decade” (New York Newsday) “A page-turner.” —Entertainment Weekly “First, think of a beginner’s guide to philosophy, written by a schoolteacher ... Next, imagine a fantasy novel— something like a modern-day version of Through the Looking Glass. Meld these disparate genres, and what do you get? Well, what you get is an improbable international bestseller ... a runaway hit... [a] tour deforce.” —Time “Compelling.” —Los Angeles Times “Its depth of learning, its intelligence and its totally original conception give it enormous magnetic appeal ... To be fully human, and to feel our continuity with 3,000 years of philosophical inquiry, we need to put ourselves in Sophie’s world.” —Boston Sunday Globe “Involving and often humorous.” —USA Today “In the adroit hands of Jostein Gaarder, the whole sweep of three millennia of Western philosophy is rendered as lively as a gossip column ... Literary sorcery of the first rank.” —Fort Worth Star-Telegram “A comprehensive history of Western philosophy as recounted to a 14-year-old Norwegian schoolgirl... The book will serve as a first-rate introduction to anyone who never took an introductory philosophy course, and as a pleasant refresher for those who have and have forgotten most of it... [Sophie’s mother] is a marvelous comic foil.” —Newsweek “Terrifically entertaining and imaginative ... I’ll read Sophie’s World again.” — Daily Mail “What is admirable in the novel is the utter unpretentious-ness of the philosophical lessons, the plain and workmanlike prose which manages to deliver Western philosophy in accounts that are crystal clear. -

See the Materials (#materials) tab for details. Cost Low ($20 - $50) Safety Minor injury possible. Keep your fingers clear when launching the catapult. Do not aim the catapult at people. Abstract You may have seen movies or read books where armies in medieval times catapulted large rocks or other objects at castles (or each other!). These armies used different types of catapults to accomplish different goals — for example, launching things over or into castle walls to knock them down. In this experiment, you will use a ping-pong ball catapult to lay siege to a "castle" and find the right settings to hit your targets. Objective Using a ping-pong ball catapult, find the right settings to launch a ball either directly into a castle wall or over it.
