February 26, 2021 Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama are voting to form a union with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). We are the writers of feature films and television series. All of our work is done under union contracts whether it appears on Amazon Prime, a different streaming service, or a television network. Unions protect workers with essential rights and benefits. Most importantly, a union gives employees a seat at the table to negotiate fair pay, scheduling and more workplace policies. Deadline Amazon accepts unions for entertainment workers, and we believe warehouse workers deserve the same respect in the workplace. We strongly urge all Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer to VOTE UNION YES. • Of Covenants and Conflicts- When "I Do" Means More Than It Used To, but Less Than You Thought
Of Covenants and Conflicts- When "I Do" Means More Than It Used To, But Less Than You Thought JASON ANDREW MACKE* Louisiana's recent passage of a "covenant marriage" law is the first successful attack on the no-fault divorce revolution ofthe Seventies. The law has been championed by supporters as a return to marriages that matter and attacked by detractors as a draconian interference in the private lives of Louisiana's citizens. This Note gives a detailed analysis of the law and concludes that the politicaluproar surrounding the law has obscured the purely legal issues raisedby its passage. This Note addresses several legal arguments againstthe law and concludes that its major flaw lies in its failure to take into account basic conflicts of law principles. The oversight proves to be one that renders the law ineffective in many situations. I. INTRODUCTION Even if marriage has never been easy, it has usually been simple-that is, when two people get married, it is generally understood that they are bound together not only by their vows to each other, but also by the laws of their state. Occasionally, though, things get more complicated-especially when there are questions about the legality of the marriage. In the past, those questions have usually centered on problems of validity-for example, if Jerry Lee and his thirteen-year-old third cousin marry1 in one state, and that marriage would have been illegal under the laws of another state, is the marriage valid? In such cases, courts have generally held that if the marriage was valid when performed and legal in the state where performed, it should be deemed valid in all other states, even if it could never have been performed in those states.

A Former TMZ Employee Said She Was Fired After Complaining About A Sexist, Toxic Work Environment buzzfeednews.com/article/krystieyandoli/ex-tmz-employee-lawsuit A former TMZ employee filed a lawsuit against the celebrity gossip show’s parent companies Warner Bros. Entertainment and EHM Productions on Tuesday alleging gender discrimination and retaliation. Bernadette Zilio, 27, worked at TMZ and TooFab, another entertainment site owned by Warner Bros. and EHM Productions, from 2015 to 2020 and said she was fired after she complained to HR about a culture of toxicity and sexism. TMZ founder Harvey Levin, TooFab Managing Editor Shyam Dodge, and TooFab Senior Producer Ross McDonagh are also named in the lawsuit. In the complaint, which was filed Tuesday with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, Zilio said she went to Warner Bros. HR representatives in April 2019 about issues of “sexism, belittlement, preferential treatment and lies running rampant on [her] team.” She told HR that she felt there was a division of how men and women were treated on her team, and that when she spoke up about McDonagh writing articles she considered sexist and offensive, such as one that compared Rihanna getting sick with bronchitis and the “attack on her lungs” to her being attacked by Chris Brown, her concerns about making light of domestic violence were dismissed. The complaint also says that Zilio and her female colleagues described the work environment as “a boys’ club,” “100% a bro fest,” and a “freaking frat house.” “The first time I went to HR, they launched an investigation,” Zilio told BuzzFeed News.

The Pennsylvania State University The Graduate School College of Communications SASSY COWS AND MAGICAL JUJU: REPRESENTATIONS OF RACE AND ETHNICITY ON THREE NICKTOONS PROGRAMS A Thesis in Media Studies by Nicole M. Lawrence © 2012 Nicole M. Lawrence Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts December 2012 ii The thesis of Nicole M. Lawrence was reviewed and approved* by the following: Matthew P. McAllister Professor of Communications Thesis Adviser Matthew F. Jordan Associate Professor of Communications Michael Elavsky Associate Professor of Communications Marie Hardin Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research *Signatures are on file in the Graduate School. iii ABSTRACT This thesis critiques programming on the children’s media channel Nicktoons for patterns of racial representation -- including the presence of stereotyping -- in characters. As research has shown that representation of ethnicity may be especially influential to children viewers, and that there are precedents for problematic racial representations in popular media, including children's media, the continued examination of patterns of racial-ethnic group member representation and stereotyping in character depictions has significant implications. Utilizing textual analysis, three Nicktoons’ programs are examined for racialized constructions of characters, including constructions with hegemonic and ethnocentric implications. The thesis argues that three programs, Back at the Barnyard, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Tak and the Power of JuJu problematically construct analogies of African Americans, Asians, and native peoples, respectively. The constructions in these Nicktoons programs typically “other” these groups when contrasted to dominant white culture -- or at least the animated stand-ins for dominant white culture -- and imply cultural hierarchies in which white culture is superior and/or the norm.
