GOSPEL REACHING OUT NOVEMBER 1981 PAGES Kent Humphrey Joins Dixie Melody Boys

The Dixie Melody Boys, a nationally known gospel singing group, was in Green County Friday night to present a concert at Bethlehem Baptist Church.

For one family it was more than just another opportunity to hear southern style gospel music-it was, in a sense, a homecoming. One of the Dixie Melody Boys is Kent Humphrey, 17year old son of Bernice and Leland Humphrey, Greensburg. Kentucky Kent has been a member of this professional groupsinceJuly.

"It was never a difficult decision for him ot make," his parents say of his choice to join the Dixie Melody Boys, "but it was a little difficult for us at first. It was not really a surprise because we had known of his love for gospel music and realized he had never wanted to do anything but something like this." "It had always been my life's ambition to do this type of work," Kent admits without hesitation. "I enjoy traveling around the country, but more important, I enjoy witnessing and sharing my life with people this way." KENT HUMPHREY His parents say Kent has had no special training for the job he now has. "It is a =x= talent and a love of music he was born with. He is just using what the Lord gave THE INSPIRATIONS him." From Bryson City, N. C. The new lead singer for the Dixie Melody Boys does have several years of Will be Singing at the exi>erience in his chosen field. Kent began performing in churches when he was five and with his father joined the Joymakers Allen Co-Scottsville High School and began singing with them when he was 10. He has also performed with Spiritual Auditorium Sounds, a Hardinsburg based group, and In Scottsville, Kentucky with the Conquerers, Green County group that includes his parents. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11 at 7:00 PM. Kent comes by his love of gospel music quite naturally. "Leland was in gospel music before we got married," Bernice says, "and Kent hasn't known anything else. Ever since he can remember this has been an important part of his life." Since joining the groijp in July, Kent has traveled extensively, mainly in the south, but also in Ohioand Okl^twma. The night before they appeared at B^hlehem Bap tist Church, the Dixie Melody Boys sang in Akron, Ohio and the night following they sang in Mt. Washington, Kentucky. The group is based in Kingston, North Carolina. For the future, Kent looks forward to Admission will be $4.00 in advance and $4.50 at the door.
