Darling West - While I Was Asleep

FROM ÅL TO BROOKLYN AND BACK The last twelve months of Darling West’s musical career can hardly be described as anything else than fantastic. Since the release of their second album, «Vinyl and a Heartache», they have played concerts all over the world, been listed on the biggest radio channels in Norway and appeared on the Top 100 Country charts in the US. They’ve been played more than three million times on Spotify, been booked to the biggest festivals in Norway, SXSW in Texas, Folk Alliance in Kansas City and Americanafest in Nashville, toured with Sam Outlaw, and supported Lucinda Williams. In February, 2017, that also won a Norwegian Grammy for their album «Vinyl and a Heartache». Despite all this, the band didn’t rest on their acquired laurels, and headed straight into the studio to records their third album. The album will be called «While I Was Asleep», and it contains ten new songs. It will be out February 16th, 2018. They haven't changed much these last twelve months, but you could still hear a new and revitalized Darling West. The band is still playing their sweet americana/country/folk, but there’s a lot more drive in the music and the melodies are catchier than before. As mentioned above, the last twelve months have been great, but there’s nothing that indicates that the next twelve won’t be even better.«While I Was Asleep» will be out February 16th, 2018 on Jansen Records.

Gurls - Run Boy, Run (cd og vinyl)

It doesn’t happen often that so much undisputed and up-to-the-minute jazz talent is crammed into one trio, but this is the case with GURLS. Or – forget about “talent”: these prizewinning folks have gone far beyond that stage. They were a finished product a long time ago. In GURLS we find three of Norway’s most sought-after musicians having what they themselves call a musical recess. With their playful energy, sparkling self-confidence and unique levels of experience, together these three musicians form a gentle but funky unit of bubbly, spontaneous communication with more than a hint of depth. Run Boy, Run The group’s debut album, Run Boy, Run, is a genre-transcending witch’s brew featuring lyrically playful musicians who address gender roles and norms, humour and (confrontationally) female sexuality. It is refreshing and audacious, and of course rightfully so. In GURLS we hear Ellen Andrea Wang on bass and vocals. Hanna Paulsberg, who founded the trio, is on saxophone and vocals. The last member is Rohey Taalah who, with her band “Rohey”, is on the road to success in her own right. She replaced Emilie Nicolas, who was involved in starting GURLS when she encouraged Paulsberg to share the songs she had written about what she had experienced in her own life.

Motorpsycho - Little Lucid Moments (white vinyl)

10-Year Anniversary Edition of the first Motorpsycho release on Rune Grammofon. Originally released in 2008 with then new drummer Kenneth Kapstad who recently left the band. This double white vinyl includes 4 side-long epic songs that clearly shows a band with fresh energy and vitality.

Elephant9 - Greatest Show On Earth (cd og vinyl)

Elephant9 blends the virtuosic precision of King Crimson and Yes with the jazz-fusion explorations of electric Miles, Weather Report and the Tony Williams Lifetime. Key and time signatures change constantly as the quartet helters and skelters between tightly composed sections, driving kosmische interludes and bucolic Canterbury excursions. Rolling Stone (US). This sums it up pretty well when it comes to reference points, but it´s also necessary to add that Elephant9 have developed quite a personal and identifiable style - through previous albums, touring and close collaborations with Reine Fiske andTerjeRypdal. On this, their fifth studio album, they are back to the core trio of their two first albums, with Ståle Storløkken (keyboards), Nikolai Hængsle (bass) and Torstein Lofthus (drums). "The Greatest Show On Earth" displays some truly astonishing playing and is a more dynamic, structured and focused album with all tracks clocking in between five and seven minutes.

Sudan Dudan - Heimen der ute

Duo from Valdres, formed in 2003 The duo Mattisgard and Røine has, in a short time, made a name for itself as one of the most interesting groups within Norwegian folk music today. The two musicians create distinctive, sometimes improvised, arrangements for vocals and string instruments for broadside ballads, humorous songs, lyrics set to fiddle tunes and lullabies. “Heimen der ute” is their fourth album following “Inntil I dag” from 2013.

Slagr – Dirr (cd og vinyl)

The meditative music of Slagr – whose latest album, ‘DIRR’, was recorded and mixed by Andreas Mjøs of Jaga Jazzist, the producer of two previous Slagr albums – provides a portal for the imagination to roam free: a magical sound-world whose simple melodies and drones combine with an audio-palette of austere yet beautiful instrumental textures to provoke an infinite sense of openness capable of conveying a myriad of meanings.

Morild - Nordic Landscapes

MORILD is a Norwegian duo in which Dag Einar Eilertsen (jazz alto-trombone) and Marius Noss Gundersen (classical guitar) combine two musical worlds in an expression inspired by Nordic jazz traditions. With its unique combination of instruments the duo now present their new project and album, "Nordic Landscape": original compositions characterised by long melodic lines, timbres, improvisations and Nordic atmospheres. Morild can be placed in a Nordic / Jazz / ECM-inspired landscape with their new album "Nordic landscapes". Dag Einar does something very few have done before him, playing jazz on alto- trombone. The instrument had its peak between the 16th and 18th centuries in classical music. The bell is approximately the same size as a flugelhorn, so the mutes and sordins for flugelhorn match the alto-trombone, giving multiple opportunities for experimentation and variation. We know of no previous jazz recordings with alto- trombone, and the instrument blends exceptionally well with the nylon stringed guitar. Eilertsen and Gundersen have played together for a number of years and have received excellent feedback on their musicianship and relaxed stage appearances. To experience Morild live has been said to be a unique musical journey through clear open sound, beautiful melodies and enjoyable dialog with the listeners.
