How to make a “contact sheet” in Apple Photos and place it in your WordPress site Photos In Apple’s Photos app select every photo you shot for the assignment. You can do this easily either by clicking and dragging over all the photos or by clicking on the first photo and then shift-click on the last one.

Now that the photos from the assignment are selected press and hold the and then press P which will open the Print dialog box.

In the Print dialog box click on the Contact Sheet choice in the right sidebar. The default setting of four columns wide is usually an effective setting. We aren’t printing this to a printer but instead are saving our contact sheets to a spe - cial kind of PDF, an Adobe PDF.

Down in the lower right sidebar of the Print dialog box is a Print button. Press it. This will open another dialog box, the one where we will specify Adobe PDF.

In the lower left of this new mini Print dialog box you will see a pull-down menu labeled “PDF” that you should click and hold. You can see there are many choices for PDF and the one you must use is “Save As Adobe PDF”. The Adobe PDF creates a small file size PDF while the other choices create a very large file size PDF, one that’s too large for WordPress to handle.

The Adobe PDF takes a bit of time to make your contact sheet pdf so be patient. Once it’s done processing a Save as Adobe PDF dia - log box opens. These default set - tings are fine so just click on Continue.

This will open a typ - ical Mac Save dia - log box where you will name your con - Be sure to select “Save tact sheet some - as Adobe PDF” thing like: “Assn 1 Contact Sheet.pdf” and navigate to your external hard drive and into your assignment 1 folder and into the subfolder you’ve created for – “Assn 1 Other” or something like that. Click on “Save” and Adobe PDF will validate the input as it saves.

If this file ends up in the tens or hundreds of megabytes then that means you probably did not save as Adobe PDF but just as a PDF. If this is the case you will need to go back into Photos and start the process again, this time choosing Adobe PDF. Be sure that your file name ends in “.pdf” so that WordPress will reconize the file type.

Once you've made your contact sheet open it in Preview by double clicking on the file in the Finder.

Now in Preview take a screenshot of just one page of the contact sheet – press and hold the "Command" key and the "Shift" key and then while holding those keys press the number 4 key. This will give you a "crosshair" cursor: click and drag over the page of your contact sheet. Let go of the mouse button to “take” the screenshot.

This screenshot you just made will be on your "Desktop" with the name something like this: "Screen Shot 2015-09- 10 at 10.14.11 PM." Change the name of this file to some - thing like: “Contact sheet assn 1 screen shot.png" and put that file in your “Assignment 1 Other” folder on your hard drive.

WordPress In WordPress add a new page and call it Photo Gallery or something similar. Put your PDF file into the Media Library in your WordPress site. Notice that on the right side of the window there is a URL of the PDF file. Copy that URL for use in just a minute.

Drag your contact sheet screen - shot into the Media Library. Press the “Insert” button to place this into the page where your contact sheet will go.

Now, click the contact sheet screenshot that's on the Word - Press page and then go up to the tools area just above and click on the icon that looks like a small chain link.

©2015, Brian K. Johnson, all rights reserved Once that “Insert/edit link” dialog box opens you will see the link to the screenshot of the contact sheet. Well, we don't want it to link to the contact sheet screenshot – we want it to link to the contact sheet PDF . So paste in the URL of the PDF that you copied a few steps above and then click on the "Update" button.

Update this Photo Gallery page. Then visit the page to ver - ify that your contact sheet screenshot is showing on the page. Then click on the screenshot to verify that your con - tact sheet PDF file opens. If this is what happens then all is well with the world.

If you click on the contact sheet screenshot and WP just opens a larger version of the screenshot then you need to go back and make the screenshot into a link and be sure that you are pasting in the URL of the PDF (remember, this is the URL you copied in the Media Library step above).

Be sure to “refresh” your browser page every time you want to see the updated version of your WP site or individ - ual WP page.

Now go to the Appearance menu in the left sidebar of your WordPress Dashboard and go down to Menu.

Add your Photo Gallery page to your Main Menu and drag it to the correct level in the menu.

That should be it. Congratulations!
