A wide, galloping, left-handed circuit of 1½ miles, with a straight of just over 4f. It has no undulations but a very slight rise over the course of the back straight and the opposite in the home straight. There are short run-ins for both hurdles and chases, though it is in essence a fair track, with the chase course providing a good test of jumping. Field sizes tend to be on the small side. The ground rides mostly on the soft side of good and can be extremely gruelling at its worst, leading to many an attritional race. The course has had problems caused by low sun, resulting in the removal of several flights in hurdles races.

The PACE FORECAST (available only in declared Race Cards) uses early positional figures (as noted by Timeform’s race analysts) from all Pinpointed as potentially representing poor value, primarily on account of doubts as of the horses’ recent records to establish the likely pace of a race. Warning Horse to the strength or reliability of its recent form.
