RULES 1.1 This regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of (RRS). 1.2 PHRF of Southern California (PHRF SoCal) Class Rules will be in effect for handicap classes. 1.3 US Sailing prescription, RRS 82 will not apply. 2. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 2.1 This regatta is open to one-design keelboats, and to handicap boats that have a valid PHRF SoCal Rating Certificate. Handicap boats in the PHRF Racing Division (see NoR 3.2) must compete in a W/L rated configuration not to exceed 186. Handicap boats in the PHRF Cruising Division (see NoR 3.2) must compete in an RLC rated configuration not to exceed 186. Boats outside this range may petition the OA for inclusion. 2.2 Eligible boats may enter by completing online registration at the Cal Race Week webpage and paying all fees by Wednesday, May 29. Entries submitted after that time may be accepted only with the approval of the Regatta Chair and will be charged a $50 late fee. 3. CLASSES 3.1 One-design keelboats must have a minimum of three (3) paid entries prior to the entry deadline to establish a class. Invited one-design classes are Farr 40, J/70, J/24, Martin 242, Santana 30/30, Schock 35, , and 640, and any other one-design classes that meet the entry threshold. Those that do not establish a class may compete in the PHRF Racing Division if they are in compliance with the handicap boat requirements per NoR 2.1. 3.2 Handicap boats will compete in either a PHRF Racing or a PHRF Cruising Division and must have a minimum of five (5) paid entries prior to the entry deadline to establish a Division. A boat whose Rating Certificate has an “Active” Boat Configuration Adjustment Status will be assigned to the PHRF Cruising Division; a boat whose Status is not “Active” may petition the OA for inclusion in that Division. All other boats will be assigned to the PHRF Racing Division. 3.3 Handicap classes within each Division will be established at the discretion of the OA based on entries received by the entry deadline. 3.4 A class with fewer than five (5) entries may have their start combined with another class of similar size, though classes will be scored separately. 3.5 Classes, class flags, race area assignments, and order of starts for the first race each day will be posted on the outside windows of the Gallery Room, downstairs in the CYC clubhouse (Official Notice Board) and online at the Cal Race Week webpage by 1230 on Friday, May 31.

4. FEES The entry fee will be based on the LOA of the boat as set forth below. Boats whose LOA falls between categories (for example, 29.5 feet) should round down to the next foot to determine the entry fee. For other one-design classes, and the PHRF Racing Division, five (5) races are scheduled: three (3) on Saturday and two (2) on Sunday. For the PHRF Cruising Division, two (2) races are scheduled: one (1) on Saturday and one (1) on Sunday. The RC, at its discretion, may run fewer races. 6. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS The Sailing Instructions will be posted at the Cal Race Week webpage by Thursday, May 30. 7. VENUE There will be multiple racing areas on Santa Monica Bay, west of the Marina del Rey breakwater. 8. THE COURSES Courses will be a windward/leeward format for the PHRF Racing Division and one-design classes. Courses will be a random leg format for the PHRF Cruising Division. 9. SCORING 9.1 A boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. 9.2 One (1) race must be completed to constitute a regatta. 9.3 The PHRF Racing Division will be scored with PHRF SoCal Area B W/L ratings. Non-spinnaker offsets will not be used. The PHRF Cruising Division will be scored with PHRF SoCal Area B RLC ratings, with non-spinnaker offsets applied as applicable. 9.4 Handicap boats’ corrected times will be calculated using the Time on Time method, with a Time Correction Factor of 650 / (625 + PHRF) where PHRF is a boat’s PHRF SoCal Area B rating per 9.3. Boats from outside Area B will have Area B adjustments applied as available. 10. BERTHING / HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS Boats in specified one-design classes will be assigned rafting areas at CYC, and shall remain in the water Saturday night. Boat trailers will be stored on CYC grounds in a specified area. [DP] 11. RADIO COMMUNICATION While on the water, the RC may communicate with competing boats via VHF radio, including starting penalties.

12. PRIZES 12.1 Trophies will be awarded after racing on Sunday based on the number of entries in each class. 12.2 In addition, the following trophies will be awarded: ● The PHRF SoCal Championship trophies will be awarded to the winners of the PHRF classes at the PHRF SoCal General Meeting in November. ● The Junior Crew Trophy will be awarded to the best scoring boat in each class with at least one junior (<18) aboard. The form for entering the Junior Crew Trophy competition may be found at the Cal Race Week webpage. ● The M242 Pacific Coast Championship Trophy, which shall remain on display at CYC, will be awarded to the first place Martin 242. ● The Jimmy Morris Trophy, which shall remain on display at CYC, will be awarded to the first place Schock 35. ● The Charles Tanner Trophy, which shall remain on display at CYC, will be awarded to the first place boat in each PHRF class in the Racing Division. ● The Fred F. Harris Trophy, which shall remain on display at CYC, will be awarded to the first place boat in each one-design class. ● The Thomas K. Armstrong California Challenge Trophy, which shall remain on display at CYC, will be awarded to the winning yacht club team. The Notice of Challenge may be found at the Cal Race Week webpage. 13. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors in this event are participating entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. By participating in this event, each competitor agrees to release the race organizers (organizing authority, host yacht club, race committee, protest committee, sponsors, and any others acting in an official capacity for this event) from any and all liability associated with such competitor’s participation in this event to the fullest extent permitted by law. 14. A no-host breakfast will be available at the club from 0800-1000 on both race days. Entertainment and a complimentary buffet dinner for competitors will be provided after racing on Saturday, with additional dinner tickets available for purchase. Complimentary refreshments will be provided after racing on Sunday. Boat Launching, Berthing and Trailer Storage: Competitors are invited to use the hoists and dinghy dock at CYC during the regatta.
