Repeats on Sunday, October 6 at 1:30 p.m. Heritage Month Friday, October 4 programming at 9 p.m. on Vegas PBS sponsored by Channel 10 and 10.1 Go inside Shakespeare’s gripping history plays and chronicle this bloody tale of fam- ily, politics and power. This week, in the aftermath of the Battle of Shrewsbury, Northumberland learns of the death of his son. The Lord Chief Justice (Geoffrey Palmer) attempts, on behalf of the increasingly frail king, to separate Falstaff (Simon Russell Beale) from Prince Hal (Tom Hiddleston). The rebels continue to plot insurrection. Falstaff is sent to recruit soldiers and takes his leave of his mistress, Doll Tearsheet (Maxine Peake). The rebel forces are overcome, bringing comfort to the dying king, who is finally reconciled to his son. Falstaff rushes to Hal’s coronation with expectations of high office, only to be rebuffed by the former prince who has now become King Henry V. Family of migrant workers during the Great Depression

Alexander Dinu Scent of Love Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on Vegas PBS Vme Fall in love with this romantic new series set in Liguria, Italy. Experience a great love story between Laura, a beautiful young heroine who lives her life with passion and determination, and Giovanni, the charming son of a well-known Ligurian cosmetic house. The two opposites irresistibly attracted must fight against all odds for their love. What brings them together is the art of perfume – in particular that of “Rosso San Valentino,” the flagship product of the presti- gious company of Giovanni’s family. The relationship develops with hints of mys- tery and is full of surprises, but ultimately, positive sentiments win in the end: loyalty and commitment, faith in ideals, and love. In Spanish.

Friday, October 25 at 9 p.m. on Vegas PBS Channel 10 and 10.1 Lorraine Hansberry’s groundbreaking 1959 drama, A Raisin in the Sun, was the first Broadway play to depict the strength and humanity of an African-American family striving for a piece of the American dream by buying a house in a white working-class neighborhood in Chicago. More than 50 years later, playwright Bruce Norris creat- ed Clybourne Park, a sardonic Pulitzer Prize-winning prequel and sequel that takes place in the same Chicago house and revisits the questions of race, real estate and gentrification in America. Inspired by Hansberry's original and Norris' follow-up, Kwame Kwei-Armah, penned a third play, Beneatha’s Place, which follows two of the Raisin characters to Nigeria and its post- colonial struggles. Center Stage mounted Clybourne Park and Beneatha’s Place as “The Raisin Cycle” and as part of its 50th anniversary season. Louis Armstrong Signs of the Time Thursday, October 24 at 9 p.m. on Vegas PBS Jackpot! During the early days of baseball, fans experienced the game without the benefit of an umpire's colorful hand signals: the defiant fist as the perfect pitch crossed home plate or the dramatic fist pump as the runner, ball and baseman converged at first base. The umpire's voice, usually drowned out by the screams of thousands of excited fans, served as the only means to signal a ball or strike or to call a player safe or out. This special explores the origins of baseball's hand signals and the pioneers responsible for this pivotal innovation. Narrated by Richard Dreyfuss, the award-winning documentary features full-scale re-enactments of early games and interviews with historians, retired umpires and former players including Bob Michael Barreca Feller, Brooks Robinson, Fred Lynn and Hall of Fame manager Earl Weaver.

Secrets of the Tower of London Sunday, October 27 at 8 p.m. on Vegas PBS Channel 10 and 10.1 tanding guard over the city of London for nearly 1,000 years, the formidable Tower of London has been a royal castle, a prison, a place of execution and tor- ture, an armory and the Royal Mint. The structure was originally built by William the Conqueror, following his successful invasion of England in 1066. This pro- gram unlocks the doors to secret rooms, talks to the people who do the jobs no Sone sees and reveals some surprising facts about one of England’s most famous icons. Orson Welles War of the Worlds: American Experience Tuesday, October 29 at 9 p.m. on Vegas PBS Channel 10 and 10.1 On Sunday, October 30, 1938, the night before Halloween, millions of Americans gathered around their radios and heard a news bulletin about strange explosions on Mars, followed by other reports that led them to believe an alien invasion was in progress. Relive the thrill of Orson Welles’ infamous radio dramatization of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds, 75 years after it set off one of the biggest mass hysteria events in U.S. history. The film examines the elements that made America ripe for the hoax: America’s longtime fascination with life on Mars; the emergence of radio as a powerful new medium; the shocking Hindenburg explosion of 1937; and Welles himself, the 23-year-old wunderkid direc- tor of the drama and mischief-maker supreme. London Tower Independent Lens: The Graduates Mondays, October 28 and November 4 at 10 p.m. on Vegas PBS Channel 10 and 10.1 In this new two-part special, filmmaker Bernardo Ruiz (Reportero), explores the many roots of the Latino dropout crisis through the eyes of six inspiring young students from across the United States who are part of an on-going effort to increase graduation rates for a growing Latino population. Much more than a survey of contemporary policy debates, the student profiles offer a first-hand perspective on the challenges facing many Latino high school students, including over-crowded schools, crime-ridden neighborhoods, teen pregnancy, and pressure to contribute to the family finances. The program is an eye-open- ing introduction to many of the resilient young people who will shape America’s future. Tulsa native Darlene
