It was a home-run hitting team that averaged 10 runs per game versus a team that, through hard work, had improved to play error-free defense and had an outstanding, but untried, young pitcher. Bremen, the hitting team, and their coach were ranked #1 in the state by the ICGSA poll (Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association). The Speedway team and coach were unranked. Speedway began their season with a 9-1 loss. Bre- men bagan with an 18-1 win in a game that was called after the 5th inning with the 10-run rule. Bremen had 42 home-runs before the champion- ship game. Speedway had 3. Bremen had a 26-3 record. 12 of those games end- ed early with the 10-run rule. Of their 5 games leading up to the championship, 2 games ended early with the 10-run rule, one final score was 11-1, and the other two games were shut-outs. Speedway had a 21-6-1 record with many close games. One team, Monrovia, beat Speedway 10-0 in April, but lost to Speedway (6-3) in a sectional game
