August 9TH, 10TH, 11TH, 2018 VEGREVILLE COUNTRY FAIR In conjunction with the VEGREVILLE GARDEN CLUB Presents the Exhibit Hall Bench & Horticultural Show 2018 Entry Book Book Entry Deadline Friday July 20th, 2018 by 4pm Exhibit Entries Accepted Wednesday, August 8th, 2018 during 10am – 1pm ONLY (After August 31, 2018 any Exhibit Hall entries not picked up will be disposed of) 1 Admission to the Fair 1. DAILY ADMISSION: 5 and under free; 6 years-15 years $5; 16+ years $10 (GST is included in price) 2. ADVANCE PASSES entitle holder to three gate admissions with pass-out privileges. Passes are available pre-fair at the following rates: 16+ $20, 6 - 15 $10 3. GATE HOURS for the Vegreville Fair are from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. 4. Everyone must purchase a gate admission, which is available at the Vegreville Agricultural Society office, or at the advanced ticket booth. 5. Once on the grounds, there are no other admission charges, except for the Beer Gardens. Volunteer Information The Vegreville Agricultural Society and Vegreville Garden Club would like to thank all those who have volunteered in past and present Hall Exhibit shows. Without their generous help, we wouldn’t have a showcase for everyone’s exhibits. It is not necessary to be a member of the Vegreville Agricultural Society (VAS) or the Vegreville Garden Club. • Please call the VAS office (780 632 3950) for information on membership or any other questions you may have. Entering Exhibits All ages $5 per page or part thereof 1. Fill out entry form using a pen. 2. Please use only one side of the form. 3. List entries in the order shown in the Prize List. 4. Only one entry per exhibitor per class is permitted. 5. An entry form may contain entries from one exhibitor only (i.e. different exhibitors may not share the same form) 6. Bring the entry form(s) to the Agricultural Society office prior to 4 p.m., July 20, 2018. Entries close at 4 p.m. sharp. 7. Entry fee is $5 per entry form page, whether page is full or partly full. 8. The Agricultural Society will produce exhibit tags. Pick up entry tags at the Agricultural Society office on or before August 7th. (If you wish to have them mailed to you they will be sent C.O.D.) 9. Attach tag to each entry. Bend up bottom portion to cover your name. Tags must remain attached to exhibits during the show. 10. Exhibits must be fresh and clean. 11. Grain and garden produce, except when specified, must be grown by the exhibitor in the current year. Judges may cut vegetables open. 12. Articles entered in collections may not be entered in single classes and vice versa. 13. Bring entries to the Exhibit Hall on Wednesday, August 8th between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. No entries will be accepted after the doors are closed at 1 p.m. 2 14. Pick up your exhibits (CARRY OUT ONLY) on Saturday, August 11th between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. OR VEHICLE PICK UP: Monday, August 13th from 11am-1pm. Any entries left will be disposed of after August 31, 2018. 15. NO VEHICLES WILL BE ADMITTED TO THE GROUNDS FOR THE DURATION OF THE FAIR!!!! 16. Exhibitors will not be permitted into the Exhibit Hall while judging is in progress, apart from society directors and volunteers. Judging and Awarding Prizes 17. Judging Standards manuals for all Bench Show categories are available at: • Vegreville Centennial Library, 4829 – 50 St. 780-632-3491 • Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development, Publications Division, 7000 - 113 St. Edmonton. Exhibitors may be required by the directors to make a statutory declaration that the work exhibited is: • Of his/her own making • Has not previously been entered in the Vegreville Fair 19. Judges shall withhold prizes where an exhibit is not deemed worthy even if there is no competition. 20. Judges may award 2nd and/or 3rd prizes where no exhibit is up to prescribed standards. 21. No money shall be given out as a prize unless it has been listed in the Prize List. Exhibits entered in incorrect age categories will be disqualified. Conditions of Exhibiting The Directors, while taking every precaution, cannot be held responsible and are not insured for damage to, or loss of exhibits. The Directors reserve the right to prescribe and regulate the arrangement of articles on display. The Directors reserve the right to make corrections and changes to the rules and regulations and the Prize List. Section A: Junior Classes AWARDS: $5, $4, $3, $2 (unless otherwise noted) Peewee (3 to 6 years) 101 LEGO - your own creation, maximum 18” X 18” X 18”. 102 LEGO – Kit, maximum 18” X 18” X 18”. 103 Finger Painting 104 YOUR FAMILY: drawn, painted, felt markers, etc., with family members’ names clearly shown. White paper mounted on colored tag board or poster board 105 A play dough animal, figure, or structure 106 Cookie gram: Bake and decorate a LARGE cookie (no mixes) in any shape you like. If you wish, make two small sample cookies to be cut by the judge and your large cookie will return home intact. 107 A marshmallow creation. 108 Print your name and add decorations. 109 Drawing in pencil, crayon or felt pen 110 Painting 111 Craft Foam; plant or animal 112 Christmas Tree Decoration 113 Unusual stone or shell. 114 Small jar full of unusually colored pebbles 115 A Grandparent and Grandchild project. Judged on Decorating Only. 205 School lunch, with menu 206 Chocolate Chip Cookies, 3 207 Peanut Butter Cookies, 3 208 Chocolate Fudge, 3 pieces 209 Popcorn, any kind, 2 cups popped 210 Rolled Cookies, 3, decorated 211 Muffins, 3 (NO PAPER LINERS) 212 Biscuits: 3 (use following recipe) Cheesy Biscuits 1 ¾ cups all purpose flour ½ teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon baking powder 5 tablespoons butter 1 cup milk 1 cup shredded cheese Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). In a large bowl sift together flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in butter until mixture resembles course crumbs. Make a well in the centre of the flour mixture. Add the milk and cheddar cheese; stir to combine. Drop a spoonful onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes until lightly browned.
