LATE NOTICES Subordinate Legislation Act 1994 REGULATORY IMPACT STATEMENT Environment Protection (Prescribed Waste) Regulations 1998 The current Environment Protection (Prescribed Waste) Regulations 1987 and the Environment Protection (Transport) Regulations 1987 expire in July 1998. Draft Environment Protection (Prescribed Waste) Regulations 1998 have been prepared to replace these regulations. The objectives of the regulations are to define a list of prescribed wastes and to establish a regime for the management and transport of those wastes. A regulatory impact statement has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Subordinate Legislation Act 1994. The regulatory impact statement concludes that the proposed statutory rule provides the most effective mechanism for defining and managing waste and that the benefits of adopting the proposed statutory rule will outweigh the associated costs. Public comments are sought on the draft regulations and regulatory impact statement by Friday 26 June 1998. The draft regulations and the regulatory impact statement can be obtained by contacting: EPA Information Centre, tel. (03) 9628 5622, fax.
