Continue Shutterstock; EXCLUSIVE: Netflix is in talks with Louis Leterrier to direct Bright 2, a sequel to the 2017 film that kicked off the streamer feature film franchise's launch aspirations. David Ayer shot the first film and was attached to the sequel, but he was focused on rewriting to direct for Warner Bros, and he has other projects on Netflix. The film will reteam and in a tale of mismatch crime partners, one of whom is an ork. The script was written by Ayer and with a rewrite of T.S. Knowlin. Peak is produced by Iyer, Eric Newman, Brian Unkeless and Ray Angelic. Netflix is aiming for a sequel in early 2018 after the original was released and looked at a record estimated at 60 million, with far and far most views for the Netflix movie in its first week. Those numbers were eclipsed by a series of subsequent big budget films, all topped by the show, the latest action movie that Deadline revealed was becoming a sequel after Netflix projected that the film would target 90 million households in its first four weeks of release. Sources have reported that the vivid sequel raises the brunt of the odd partnership, but sets it up on the international stage. Bought by Netflix after a ferocious auction of the spec package, the film received so-so reviews, but it was important in that it got a streamer in business with Smith, and now the big movie stars regularly top-line Netflix film and TV series. In Leterrier, Netflix brings in a director who helmed Now You See Me, Clash of The Titans, Transporter Movies, Unleashed and for Netflix he directed all 10 episodes of the series Dark Crystal: Dawn of Resistance, which he exec produced. They will prepare the film to start production as soon as you can start making films again. Leterrier is a repped software and control 360. The film is set in an alternate present in which people The mythical creatures coexist and detail the LAPD cop and his orca partner before racism and police corruption, protecting the magic wand and the elf girl who owns it. The film was released on Netflix on December 22, 2017. Although it received mostly negative reviews from critics, it has become one of the most popular Netflix movies ever. The people of the site coexist with other reasonable races, in particular with orcs and elves. Although Magic is known to be real, its practice is illegal. Rare magical artifacts known as magic wands exist, but very few people called Brights can own them without dying. In Los Angeles, veteran LAPD officer Daryl Ward was unwittingly partnered with Nick Jakoby, the nation's first police orc officer, equally de-checked by his brother officers for his race and other orcs for being a police officer. Ward's relationship with Jacobi has been awkward since Ward was wounded by an armed ortor robber whom Jacobi could not apprehend, and the Lapdre division suspects that Jacobi allowed the robber to escape intentionally. One night, Ward and Jacobi react to the unrest in what is a refuge for the Shield of Light, an extremist group that prophesies the return of the Dark Lord, a semi-mythical figure thousands of years ago who was defeated by a unified army of eight races (orcs, supporting and defeated with him). Inside, Ward and Jacobi detain a lone survivor, an elf girl named Tikka, who has a wand. Ward demands support, but as soon as the four arriving officers see the stick, they try to get Ward to kill Jacobi and let them steal the wand for themselves, reminding Ward that Jacobi had already betrayed him, allowing the robber to escape. Ward goes out and demands the truth about the robber. Jacobi explains that the first app ran away from him, and Jacobi mistakenly apprehended the second, the youngest (by his smell that he was not Ward's shooter), and then helped him escape from the arriving reserve officers, knowing that they would probably shoot the child on the spot without asking questions. When four officers appear behind Ward, planning to kill both him and Jacoby, Ward turns and knocks them down before they can return fire. The shooting has caught the attention of a local Hispanic gang whose leader in the use of wheelchairs Ved saw the wand and believes it can allow it to walk again. Meanwhile, rumors of the wand draw both its owner, Leila-leader of a radical elf sect called Inferni-and Kandomere, an elf FBI agent appointed to the federal Magic Task Force. The trio runs through the territory of the Vogtet Oak clan, breaking its monthly rave. Gangsters corner trio in strip club but killed Leila and her two letting the trio run again. At the service station, Ward contacts his friend the sheriff's deputy Rodriguez, whom he knows he can trust. Rodriguez contacts Candomere and his partner Hildebrandt Ulysses Montehug, but their conversation intercepts Leila, who attacks the service station, killing Rodriguez. Fleeing again, the trio are captured by the Fogteeth orcs, whose leader Dorghu also wants a wand. Trade orders his son Mikey to kill Jacoby, but Mikey reveals that he was an orc that Jakoby allowed to escape and thus refuses to kill him. Trade euthanizes his son and kills Jacobi himself. But as he prepares to kill Ward, Tikka produces a wand and uses it to resurrect Jacobi, showing that she is bright. The shaman Vogtit pronounces this as part of the prophecy, forcing the clan to kneel before Jacobi and allow the trio to be released. Tikka, now trusting them, reveals that she speaks English and explains that Inferni believes that assembling three sticks will allow them to resurrect the Dark Lord. She was a member of Iferni, but fled the group and was covered by a shield of Light. Leila lent her wand to the bright killer and sent to kill Tikka, but Tikka escaped with a stick. Using a wand to resurrect Jacobi made Tikka seriously ill, and the only place where she could be healed was the magic pool back to safety. They return there, but were ambushed by Leila and her two guards. In the collision, Leila's guards are killed, but Leila keeps Tikka helpless as Ward and Jacobi run out of ammunition. Ward deliberately grabs the stick, believing that the explosion killed all of them. To everyone's amazement, Ward survives by shoeing a wand, showing that he is also bright. With a spell of words from Tikki, Ward destroys Leila, causing an explosion that awaits the building. Tikka disappears, and the wounded Ward and Jacobi try to escape from the building. Finding himself alone outside, Jacobi rushes back to hell and rescues Ward as the fire service and ambulance arrive. Trade and his clan appear and perform an ancient orc ceremony, meaning Jacobi is now bloody - an Okk status, achievable only by an act of great bravery. While he and Ward are taken to the hospital, federal agents arrive to get Leila's wand. At the hospital, Ward and Jacobi give Candomere and Montehu a medical statement about the events of last night, realizing that federal agents want the existence of a wand and any hint of magical activity is kept secret. In a public ceremony, Jakoby and Ward are honored for their brave stand against armed terrorists, though both are disgusted that corrupt police posthumously honor along with them and Rodriguez. Ward smiles as he notices Tikka moving through the crowd in disguise. Starring Will Smith as Daryl Ward, Man Officer. Joel Edgerton as Nick Jacoby, the country's first Orca police officer to work with Daryl. Noumi Rapace as Leila, an elf from Iferni, seeking control of a magic wand. Matt Gerald as Hicks, a corrupt LAPD officer. Margaret Cho as Ching, a corrupt LAPD sergeant. Brad William Henke as Torgue, the imposing leader of the Vogteth Orx gang. Production (L-R): Directed by David Ayer and stars Noumi Rapace, Joel Edgerton, Will Smith, Edgar Ramirez, and Lucy Fry at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con Described as a modern police thriller, but with fantastic elements, the film is directed by David Ayer and stars Will Smith and Joel Edgerton, with a screenplay written by Max Landis. Netflix has officially picked up the film for $90 million from filming since fall 2016, making it Netflix's most expensive film to date. Noumi Rapace entered into negotiations to join the cast in May 2016. Landis said in an interview that official production is expected to begin in September 2016, but that they have already removed a small portion in Los Angeles. Frequent operator Iyer was confirmed that he was working on the project. On October 15, 2016, Lucy Fry was added to the cast. On October 17, 2016, Andrea Lavedo was added to the cast. Actor Brad William Henke starred in the film on October 20, 2016. On November 1, 2016, Kenneth Choi and Don Olivieri were cast in an unknown role and role as Smith's wife, respectively. 9 It was confirmed that Ramirez would be added to the cast. That same month, Alex Mehrez, Matt Gerald, Ike Barinholz and Enrique Murciano joined the film's cast in undisclosed roles. The photos from the set were first published in November 2016. The filming was completed by February 4, 2017. Bright's critical response received criticism for her script, cinematography and excessive attention to social commentary. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 28% based on 109 reviews, with an average rating of 3.8/10. The critical consensus of the website states: Bright tries to mix fantasy, invulnerable cop drama, and social commentary, and eventually falls painfully short of the mark on all three fronts. On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 29 out of 100, based on 26 critics, which indicates generally unfavorable reviews. Richard Roper of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film 1.5 out of 4 stars, saying, Bright is basically a tired buddy-cop movie dressed in weird trappings ... It doesn't take itself too seriously, but it's not as self-deprecating and funny as it should have been. Writing for Rolling Stone, David Fear gave the film 1 in 4 stars, criticising the script and rambling action scenes, writing: This combination of gritty police procedural and fantasy is dark, raw, goofy as hell mess. David Ehrlich of IndieWire gave the film F and called it the worst film of 2017, saying, It's boring, it's bad, and then there's Bright ... From the director of and writer Victor Frankenstein comes a fresh slice of hell that somehow represents new lows for both of them - a dull and painfully derivative ordeal that often feels like it was done just to put those previous misfires into perspective. Iyer reacted enthusiastically to Ehrlich's review, saying he wanted the film to get a strong reaction anyway. NPR's Chris Klimek wrote: Critics have already lined up to shame Bright as one of the worst releases of the year. Don't believe clickbait. Lazy but not boring, this Net-Flick is fine, stubbornly mediocre, and less casual work to sit through than any of the 2017 Vin Diesel vehicles. The reaction of the audience several publications noted that although critics were harsh in their assessment of the film, the audience seemed to enjoy it more and gave a positive reaction on social networks. Netflix announced that the film had been viewed more times in its first week than any of its other releases. According to Nielsen ratings, about 11 million U.S. viewers streamed Bright in the first three days after the release, with 56% of the audience being male and 7 million were between the ages of 18 and 49. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said: The critics are From mass appeal... (they) are an important part of the artistic process, but rather disconnected from the commercial perspectives of the film. If people are watching this movie and loving it, it's a measure of success.
